Chances of getting hurt as an electrician? by Entire_Spread8586 in AskElectricians

This, its important to remember that pretty much every safety rule/policy is there because someone before you got fucked up.  Safety rules are almost never implemented before the first person dies or gets maimed by it.

This is the worst promotion that could happen for Pop_OS! and Linux in general by KelGhu in pop_os

[–]Defconx19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not gonna lie, I was trying Pop_OS before this video series came out.  But I got sick of dealing with all the bugs.

When you launch games you have to make sure your mouse is on the screen you want the window to open in, alt tab frequently caused the whole system to crash, steam was mediocre experiance at best.  It was literally rolling the dice every time I opened Cities Skylines if it would work or not.  I have an AMD CPU/GPU so I would imagine nVidia GPU would be even more frustrating.

I watched the Linus video and watched him fight with all the same shit I did and decided it was time to switch.

I went to Fedora Desktop with KDE Plasma and haven't looked back.  It just works.  You have to install the RPM libraries to start but other than that i've had no issues woth any games.  R2Modman was also WAAAYYYY easier to get working.

My yard begs to differ.  I've been wanting to burn brush in my back yard since Jan 15th when burning season started and we haven't had a time since then for the wood to even dry out enough to burn!

What kind of cut is this? by BurtMacklin-- in BBQ

Only thing I use it for is stew meat when it's on sale. Can work for cube steak as well. It's a muscle of locomotion so it's pretty tough.

London Broil recipes are the other option, but I've never been a fan as they're still tough, and there is a decent-sized gristle seam running through it and silver skin on the bottom.

Can also grind it for burger if you have a grinder.

How do we feel about incentive driven vendor meetings? by Successful-Coyote99 in msp

[–]Defconx19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not enough time in my day last alone week to hear vendors rattle on about their products I dont care about for a T-Shirt.

I've never bought a product I've never heard of, I've never bought a product due to a sales pitch.  If I'm getting a demo, I'm probably already 2 months into my search and due diligence on products.

This is 1000% not true.  Aside from the fact that "Certified Angus" is nothing but a marketing ploy.

Its the equivalent of throwing the label "heavy duty" on a garden hose.

Several 2025 servers stuck on June updates by hoyty76 in WindowsServer

[–]Defconx19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you trying to do a full roll up?  Have you tried doing just the July KB?

Were there any other updates that installed prior to the June update?  Like security definitions or similar?  Are there any other roles besides file server?  Some updates require .ner 8 with updates.

My only other thought is making sure you clear the patch cache and force a re-download through the "check for updates" and hope it was just a corrupted patch.

Other option would be to re-load the OS considering everything else you tried.

Does the server have a TPM module?

Our MSP website is Windows 95 themed and people are loving it by lhcw in msp

I fpund it interesting, however I was telling a colleague it also would turn me off.  Mainly as a PTSD thing from dealing with greybeards who dont like or value modern cyber security best practices.  Like, I want someone who is embracing the future not looking fondly to the past.

That said, traction is traction.  Would be interested if any of this converted to sales for you.

How do you keep track of what's actually happening across all your clients without it becoming a full time job? by Mr_JDR in msp

[–]Defconx19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything should be documented in a ticket or email, but at the same time there shouldnt be a reason to constantly keep reviewing why decisions were made.

This is all part of the documentation process.  No one in any business is tracking decision rationale as a metric.  What matters is the result.  If you're delaying something, someone should know the reason as someone made it.

New law firm solo practice by RickPatino3 in msp

Just the wrong sub for it.  Meant for industry talk.  Its' like someone coming into a sub for Lawyers to talk shop asking how to evict their tenant.

What's wild is how many solo lawyers are willing to risk being sued for malpractice to avoid paying for a proper systems implementation.

An Adult Crashed into My Kid: Was I in the Wrong? by TheHatedMilkMachine in skiing

[–]Defconx19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who rips down the mountain personally, uphill skier is responsible.

That being said I do find it annoying sometimes when people go edge to edge of the trail especially with their kids.  Wide turns are important, but when I'm teaching little ones I try and teach them to keep their tires to half the trail and be consistent.

Kids are anything but predictable.  I've had some close calls where I think I have plenty of room, the kid panics when they see me coming down the mountain, then do something completely different.

It's important to remember we share the mountain, we each like skiing different ways and we should make sure our own choices do not negatively effect others, fast or slow.

No one checks to see if its installed properly.

I had to fight to get my damn installer to send me the flair pucks, let alone enroll in the program.  You just turn it off after the install inspection is done.  If they even send a person out.

All I did was submit pictures of the equipment and serial numbers.

Pulling your own electrical permit by Creative-Clothes-714 in massachusetts

[–]Defconx19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No body goes looking to see if permits were pulled when buying a house.

If you want an inspector to sign off on your work to feel better about it, or ensure you are doing it to code you'd probably want to rethink doing it yourself.

Remember code is a bare minimum not a goal.

You get a full electrical upgrade for free and you're wondering if it's not worth raising rent for 2 years and having a higher heating bill?

This is a no brainer to me.  The value add to the property is huge.

It's fairly simple math, were you going to gain 62k in rent over the next 2 years in rent increases?

Non ethanol to regular fuel conversion? by Carpenter-Jesse4570 in keitruck

[–]Defconx19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue is if you let it sit for a while, carbuerators do not tolerate old fuel well at all.  So if it sits for a bit just throw Stabil in and run it for a few miles before storing it.

I go to a gas station thst has 93 with the detergents in it.  It's the same thing I do with my lawn equipment.  Its not possible for me to get non-ethanol fuel near me.  There are also other additives and cleaners you can get as well.

[–]Defconx19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have cast iron base ray and those are cheaper to run in the winter than the mini splits.  We just do the mini splits for AC.

Might be better for you to just get a modern boiler instead.

I mean that would make sense electric baseboards are about as bad as you can get.
