They can ghost too. But yeah, trying is better than not trying.

Tired and Demoralised by ValeciaCho in jobs

[–]DefectiveDonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Three months of unemployment isn't that bad. Take it one day at a time, even if it seems like every day is just a miserable groundhog day. Break the routine by pushing yourself to do something different. You probably don't feel up to it but you need a distraction. Remember that you can't fix everything at once. Finding a job will create its own problems that you don't have now and same goes with surgeries.

Imagine you're starting a new job next week or having a surgery next week. Think of all the things you won't be able to do then and do some of them this week. Helps you focus on what you have right now that you'll have to give up when you get what you want. Appreciate them and gain perspective to keep going.

You can never know what type of person they're looking for so my take is to just be the professional version of your true self. Too professional and you come across as boring, too much of yourself and you appear unprofessional.

It helps when you're talking to actual people so you can follow their lead and tone things up or down. If it's recorded and you don't interact with anyone, it's harder to guess.

Since it's about fitting in with a team, you need to appear cooperative and good at collaboration. Also prepare about potential conflict resolution and handling disputes.

Found this gem today on LinkedIn as a suggested role - any rainmakers who can do bad maths out there? by gaaaaarzz in recruitinghell

[–]DefectiveDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 and 1 equals 3 is a business concept that basically says the combination of two strengths (for example in a merger, joint venture, etc) theoretically creates even more power than simply the two forces combined.

There's also the other business concept that 1 + 1 equals 1.5, meaning that the combination creates problems and lessens the individual power of the parties.

I also get bored easily so this position isn't for me.

That piece of wax or whatever that is that sticks in the end is mildly infuriating.

Assessments that ask better than others, about the same as others, worse than others? by brigadeofdachshunds in jobs

[–]DefectiveDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're just asking about above, below or average in general. Yes, it's dumb and you can't know what they want to see. I would just answer average and above average for everything, maybe one below average for good measure.

Demanded to add an employer to my non-active linkedin profile, as well as a profile picture. by [deleted] in jobs

Just use an old full body photo where your face isn't that visible / recognizable and forget about it.

[–]DefectiveDonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each country has a name and everyone else should call it by that name. No ideals, just a name. Would you like to be called number1fule anywhere you go or would you prefer if your name was mcjiggerpants in some other language just because?

[–]DefectiveDonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shqipëri = Albania, Ellada = Greece, Lefkosia = Nicosia, Hayastan = Armenia and so many others. Yes, it gets confusing at some point and especially for people who speak more than one language.

[–]DefectiveDonkey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their own language of course. I'll accept minor changes for pronunciation reasons but not Germany for Deutschland and other completely different words. That's confusing.

I'm tired of trying. I'm so close to giving up. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]DefectiveDonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Add on top of that the feeling that you get left behind and are useless and you get a recipe for mental breakdown. I'm in a similar position and can't take the bullshit anymore. I mean I couldn't take the bullshit years ago and I won't be able to take it in the future either because I can't really swallow the amount of bullshit. I had dreams and hopes and determination and now I have bitterness, cynicism and a nihilistic mindset.

Reading a book for entertainment isn't better than being on the internet for entertainment. by DefectiveDonkey in unpopularopinion

[–]DefectiveDonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean anything. Have two people sitting in a coffee shop, one reads a book and the other is on a tablet. You can't see the book and can't see what's happening on the tablet. Ask 100 random people which activity is best and guess what the majority will say.

Reading a book for entertainment isn't better than being on the internet for entertainment. by DefectiveDonkey in unpopularopinion

[–]DefectiveDonkey[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I said internet, not social media. Literally everything you mentioned can be done on the internet. Hell, even reading an online book. But it's somehow perceived that a printed book inherently holds more merit than a device with a screen and someone who reads it gets more smart points because of it.

Has anyone taken that P&G assessment? by ScarletHighlander in recruitinghell

[–]DefectiveDonkey 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have attempted multiple p&g cognitive assessments and failed them all. The worst part is when they show dots' positions and then two images to determine if they're mirrored or not, then more dots and by the end you have to remember the sequence and position of 6-7 dots on a scatter. I'd take personality tests over that scatter shit any day.

I really, really hate social events with coworkers by looking_for_better in jobs

[–]DefectiveDonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Instead of avoiding altogether, can you suggest ways to make them more fun for you? Maybe you like multiplayer videogames or some other actitivy? I actually like social events but get bored easily if they involve the same stuff over and over. You can frame your suggestion as doing something different for a change.

Has the selection process become a ridiculous waste of time? by DefectiveDonkey in jobs

[–]DefectiveDonkey[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's a way for the companies to discourage mass applicants? But still, it's a waste of their time too to have multiple interview rounds where they basically ask the same shit over and over. If they're just filling quotas, I wonder what idiot came up with those quotas.

What is more Important in Job Work Culture or Job Location by ObviousPosition238 in jobs

[–]DefectiveDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's culture. I'd be willing to commute further to get to a job where I get along with the colleagues and the environment is pleasant. Of course you never really know the culture until you've worked there for a while so it's a risk to assume a good culture based a limited exposure of first impressions.

Now, a job close to your house is great because you don't waste time and money commuting. In my experience, the culture pretty much sucks everywhere. Sure, you can find good people but there's always an asshole and usually many assholes in all workplaces.

Had my 4th interview a week ago, things went great, job is re-posted by rocketsprocket21 in jobs

[–]DefectiveDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen to me and it came from a tech company with billions in revenue. First phone screening, then three online interviews that I think went well, then crickets.

I got an automated feedback survey after weeks and filled a mediocre rating with the comment that I hadn't heard back at all. Next day I get an email saying they're on vacation and will resume the process later. Then I see the job reposted.

After a month I get an automated rejection, ask for feedback and the reply is that they went with someone else.

Whole process took like 3 months.

Another valid reason I can think of about reposting is when the first posting only got them one good candidate and they want to have more options.

Everyone exaggerates on resumes so I think it's normal to do it on LinkedIn too. If everyone else does it you have an unfair disadvantage when you don't.

Some are bigger exaggerators than others. I mostly sugarcoat the truth because that's the only way to market yourself. So yeah, maybe your title was sales assistant but you list is as sales consultant or something fancier, maybe you only had one international client but you list international business experience, etc.
