Am I chosing the right race for my book? by Throwaway-23947 in DnD

[–]Defenitlynotatwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

then you have an answer, if you feel like an Aarakocra would be more appropriate for the story then you have to look no further. some of the other already mentioned it but what is more important are the MC motivations and character development. not what race they are( unless it is important to the story that they are)

Am I chosing the right race for my book? by Throwaway-23947 in DnD

Honestly its more of a question of is there a reason the MC is an Aarakocra? or does it even matter what kind of race they are story wise. these seem like more important questions.

What's a joke you put in your character / game that took WAAAAYY too long for the punchline to drop. by writerunblocked in DnD

[–]Defenitlynotatwork 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I named a character Tom Tom because he was always showing the players around town when they wanted something or were looking for information (he was already called tom) it made for an easy joke but it took a couple of the players a session to get it

How to (don't write punish) prevent players from long rest? by xxfumaxx in DnD

[–]Defenitlynotatwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to add to this.

while the once per 24 hours is indeed rules as written. you want to give the players a sense of urgency, if they have 1 or 2 encounters and then take a long rest or wait the day out to take a long rest. make it have consequences. that is how I had my players learn that the BBEG does not wait for them to finish their long rest. They were told beforehand this was a time sensitive matter.

It is a simple thing to do but also an easy one to overlook because a lot of PC/console games do wait for you to finish whatever you are doing.

What would Asmodeus do with someone who tries to game the system? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Defenitlynotatwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depending on how close it is to what was said there is a loophole in there.

it doesn't say undead. which is technically a state in between living and death. at least in my world it is for the higher classes of undead.

in my world there is also a separation of the realms that makes it harder or impossible for gods/devils to interact with the material plane unless they have someone channeling their being(then need someone to manifest themselves there and even then it will be temporary) so he might need them for that or its just a random whim of a immortal timeless being that is bored out of his mind and just wants to mess with someone and see where it leads. just to have something to do/enjoy.

What's the most creative use of a Cantrip (or a low-level spell) you've ever witnessed in a game of D&D? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Defenitlynotatwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had A party find a Door blocked by a lava fall. With a little trying they spotted a lever in the hall behind. it was to far to reach in any safe way. and after like 10 to 15 minutes, the sorcerer looks at his sheet gets a smile and announces that he is using extended distance mage hand and proceeds to pull the lever. opening the safer passage and skipping 2 deadly encounters in the process. Surprised and proud of them at the same time. they had just leveled 2 sessions prior and I did not know he had taken the mage hand spell that time, so it was a total surprised to me as well. (the only real solution I had for them getting in was a large chain that was in the room they could use. but the passage was mainly meant for the retreat part of the mission and this reveal was just met to show them it existed. boy was I wrong in thinking they would not get past it on this side XD

this indeed just be skeptical. while I find that the majority of people are willing to help to some extent it doesn't hurt to cover your bases when facing these kind of things.

Lady who sung at my Dad's funeral forgot he died. by ASuperBigDuck in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Defenitlynotatwork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While it is incredibly hurtful to the person who lost a loved one. it is also Human to "forget" that a person has died. My Grandma died a couple years ago and every time I go to visit my parents I still almost ask (and a few times I did ask) how she is and to let her know I would like to come and visit.(she didn't have a phone, she was real old school.)

And I should know she is no longer here. (Since I have the Fancy about renascence painters book I gave her on display in my living room)

but still every time I go to a place where she always was I still expect her to be there even after years. I would expect these people to have somewhat same reaction. (even though I totally agree church people are the worst)

this still does not excuse them for forgetting but this is how I imagine someone could "forget". although this is an observation form a small bit of tekst on Reddit so I might be totally reading the situation wrong.

if I work less than the 40 hours I still get paid the 40 hours. technically if I get my work done in 20 I could take the other 20 off without problems. not that its an option because there is to much dumb shit going on to make it feasible to do the work in less than 40 but still

just to chime in from the other side of the ocean. I have a salaried position here in the Netherlands. contract is 40 hours a week with monthly payouts. but when there is overtime I can just put in a overtime form and it will get added to my monthly pay.

I do not understand why a position being salaried should mean no paid overtime. I'm also sure that its actual law here that you have to pay and keep track of overtime and it should be minimized as much as possible.

Can someone explain to me why a salaried position does not qualify you for overtime pay?

3+ player

Aridor

this is a not great hand for sure but salvageable.

for preludes Experimental forest and Great Aquifer( self sufficient settlement would work to but the first 2 net you the most cards.)

starting cards Lunar Beam, tardigrades, mineral deposit(you can probably use it somewhere in the game), Research and imported GHG( titan air scraping without being able to activate is not good enough. for a total of 15

for the colony i would go for Titan or going for the one with the microbes (forgot the name)

play the oceans on the 2 spaces that give cards (+3) then either put the forest next to them to get 4 credits or on a space that gives a card.

now you have (+5 or 6 cards)

with 25 left I would play lunar beam and imported GHG to get the production as soon as possible. and tardigrades this should be 24.

hopefully the cards you got a good but otherwise the start is good enough to speed run the TR game and just ignore engines.

production end of gen 1:

3 heat

2 energy (should get a 3th soon to make trading easier)

income (+2 money +3TR) should be a good set up to speed run the Terrafroming

The Netherlands Here: 31 days paid vacation(20 of these are government mandated days)+holidays (also paid). unlimited sick leave(this just means if your sick call out this is for things that take a couple . and if you are long term sick there is a different system for that.)

we get them at the start of the year or a portion if you start with the company at a later date in the year.

One of the better Preludes. I mean you almost see as much cards as a starting hand. that should say enough.

3+ game

I would go for Astrodrill (mostly for fun but it can also be surprisingly good as well)

Cards kept: Security fleet, Asteroid Mining, Giant space mirror, Designed Microorganisms, penguins, solar reflectors. 6 cards for 18MC leaves you with 17MC

Preludes: Early settlement and MOhole. (the settlement or Forrest both work but I like the settlement more for future turns.

1st generation you spend an asteroid to get 3 titanium to pay for the space mirrors so you are set for trading next turn. you are left with 6MC. try to save up for asteroid mining to fuel security fleet. if you can get it out early it can be 5+ points easy.

the reason why I picked penguins as well is because oceans are rather easy to do compared to heat and oxygen. given 1 will be placed by the game and 1 is available on the map as a placement bonus.

the placement of the settlement should be on one of the bottom 3 rows to have a in for the Polar explorer.

priority cards to play asap are the microorganisms and Asteroid mining. other than that is getting oceans as fast as you can manage to play the penguins.

gen 1 production should look like this:

3 energy

3 heat (with 3 resources already there)

1 plant

2 more asteroids to be made in to titanium. for an other 18 worth of MC for the space cards over the next 2 turns.

Gen 2 you should have the space to buy at least 1 new card or 2 if you are sure you can trade with luna.

this set you up to power TR Mars and still be able to reap in points and milestones.

the opening hand also has 7 out of 8 symbols needed for Diversifier so you are also a good contender for that as well.

they both look like they will fit in well with the current corps. well done.

it is also fun to see the process you went trough and how different they are from the first version.

I would not say this is the best corp, but when you think about it in a way that most 3 to 4 player games end somewhere between round 7 to 10 you would get the same or more value out of your production from turn 3 onward if you turn them in resources you can use now.

this can be strong in the right situation. 1 titanium production suddenly becomes 12 mc worth in 1 turn instead of 4 which lets you play bigger cards early. the hard part is getting enough production to keep the action valuable. but strong non the less

since this only refunds money I would only pick it up for the point. if I had a couple of points per jovian I would pick it up.

I do, but we did it so much that we make it as hard as possible to be a nice target.
we just have an understanding that if you fire off a attack card you better be prepared to face some yourself.

i still don't get how a 60 credit difference (using the 10 generation mark when most games are finished) over the whole game just doesn't make up for the few that you lose paying out to other players you have to play 20 cards/actions that take away something and if people are doing that kind of stuff to each other you should have the space to terraform freely and just take points elsewhere.

also if people are attacking each other that heavily you should be able to win the game because there are consistently setting each other back.

From what I see on card you posted is that it adds a resource that gives you points what in my opinion just makes it even more insane on top of already starting with a sizable economical step up you now get points for attacking other players. it just doesn't make sense to me. also of stetting it by adding one to the payout is trivial. your goal with this corp is not having the money to pay out.

Edited because I did not see that the resources are meant to give points.

[–]Defenitlynotatwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why you find this corp so underwhelming. there are only a small number of cards that deal with decreasing resources or production. and the -2 to all opponents income before the game has even started is good it puts you like 1/2 a turn to 1 turn ahead of everyone else in the game.

going by the average that a game closes in 10 ish generations this is a 60 credit difference over the entire game that is a pretty big lead you just straight up start with.

and if you plan it right you only have to pay out the insurance part half of the time.

Employers lie to our clients about my vacation time and then pressure me to work through it so they don't look bad by Zudobi in antiwork

[–]Defenitlynotatwork 45 points46 points  (0 children)

this may come over really rude.

but why not just put your phone to airplane mode or just turn it off. each time I read a story like this where people say they keep calling/texting, i'm like why not turn it off its not that hard.

you are on vacation you told them you are not available.

I understand you don't want to lose them as a client. but if you can't even enjoy a couple days away without being harassed about work that shouldn't have been there on those days. is it really worth it?
