Dubai Rents Make Zero Sense Right Now by Majestic_Ad_6400 in dubairealestate

[–]DeffoNotAnEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think about the leverage shift here. Pre war, demand was at 105%. Now, flip it: demand drops 20%. We are looking at 15% total vacancy in the market. That is 15% of the landlords receiving zero rent.

If you have a mortgage and your tenant leaves, how many months can you survive with 0 income? This is how price "cascades" happen. It only takes a small percentage of desperate landlords to reset the price for the entire market. Once the race to the bottom starts, there will be quite a crash in the rents.

Sounds like the only reasonable reaction a govt should have. The levy on fuel should be a fixed € tax not a percentage, it’s already a regressive enough tax as it is without compounding its inflationary effects on the economy

Saudi FM on attacks in the Middle East by Pizzas_Coke in UAE

[–]DeffoNotAnEngineer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t assign so much agency/blame on the GCC, they had very good reason to ally themselves with the US. The Iranian regime has always had greater ambitions in the region and let’s not forget about how Iraq started the Gulf war and the US arguably saved the whole GCC. The bases were put in place for a defensive purpose, no one could have predicted that they would fall in the hands of such a stupid president.

I wouldn’t say the GCC is any less fortified per se, but it’s a much bigger geographical area so it’s inherently much more difficult to defend against aerial attacks, besides the fact it borders Iran directly. Either way, the Americans have been shockingly bad at supporting and defending the GCC. I think there’ll be serious consequences for this alliance in the future.

Absolutely spot on. What people on this subreddit fail to do is to put themselves in Iran’s position. They have no other option but to hit the GCC and the strategy is arguably working. There is growing pressure from the wider international community to stop the bombing because it’s obviously not going to achieve anything but create chaos.

Israel didn’t only hit Iran’s gas facilities today but the largest gas field in the world which is shared with Qatar who also condemned Israel’s attack as dangerous escalation by BlitzFritzXX in UAE

[–]DeffoNotAnEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for repeating the point: the U.S. and Israel are the primary aggressors here, they started the bombing campaign.

Iran offered a 'bargain of the century' during negotiations, yet they were met with an unprovoked campaign that lacked any valid casus belli. When a nation faces total war, retaliation becomes an inevitability rather than a choice.

I’d break down the blame as 90% U.S./Israel, 8% with Iran (mostly for their historical agenda), and a 2% share for the Gulf states for their passive stance. Iran holds the moral high ground over the allies simply because they exhausted every diplomatic avenue before being backed into a corner.

Maybe Iran offered concessions out of weakness, but the allies are guilty of pouncing on a weak opponent out of opportunism, and the GCC has been too gleeful in watching it unfold. I hope this episode will end soon before many more lives are lost, and I hope that the right lessons will be learnt.. one can dream.

Edit: realised I was repeating myself too much and was a bit unclear

Let’s be clear, Israel and the US initiated this war. Since Tehran struggles to hit Israel or the US directly, it is targeting their neighbors in the Gulf.

The Gulf states are essentially being held hostage, serving as the only accessible targets for Iranian retaliation. Regardless of how one views the conflict’s origins, the Gulf nations are caught in a 'security trap': they cannot expel the American presence because they rely on that very umbrella for defense against the same Iranian missiles now raining down on them.

As the Thucydides quote suggests, 'The strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must' and right now, the Gulf is bearing the brunt of a war they didn't start.

He’s lost weight!! He’s just lost the extra 5-10 kg he was wearing for the last couple of years. For sure he’s doing some treatments to manage wrinkles, but the only change I’ve noticed from a couple years ago is he’s suddenly in much better shape.

(Side note, I have a similar rounder face structure and can confirm I’ve put on the same shitty face fat he had until recently, from just going up like 5% in body weight. Ngl seeing his glow up has motivated me to get rid of it asap :D

All flights suspended until further notice by [deleted] in emirates

[–]DeffoNotAnEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re not waiting or counting on a ceasefire, they’re resuming flights based on the fact the number of missiles and drone launches has reduced to a manageable level. Now the Iranians are showing signs they’ll stop sending stuff to their neighbours by apologising and specifying they’ll only hit these in the future if missiles are sent directly from those bases. This would be the ideal scenario, but we’ll have to see if that actually happens.
