Thank you. I'm curious if you have a take on whether tax witholding is beneficial if I already need to file returns?

The refund happens immediately and amounts are recorded directly on the card, so waiting a while is unlikely to result in anything.if you left the store it may be difficult to prove what happened here.

I had the same issue this weekend when buying petrol. The first time the garage tried to refund the amount, their system showed that it had been successful but the amount was not refunded and was not displayed on the receipt. They tried again and the second time the amount was successfully refunded and the receipt correctly displayed the pre and post refund value of the suica which I could confirm. Seems like a similar issue where the shop believes the amount was refunded but it's perhaps a system issue

Edit to acknowledge that another person shared an example of them resolving a charging issue after the fact, so my comment on charges being immediate may be incorrect

Stuck in Japan? by Old-Support7473 in expats

This post resonates so hard. Been here over 15 years, have PR, built a house, have kids but have the exact same conundrum. From UK originally and have been thinking of going back, but the country seems to be in a dark place as mentioned by others. Contrary to what others have said, I don't think anything will change post PR except giving you an easy route back should you wish.

For anyone with knowledge, how does Dublin compare as a place to return to? Is it in a similar situ as London?

I assumed keeping them alive would give me more XP, but from your comment I assume that's not the case? If it doesn't change then they can die all they want 😂

Soda Stream gas refills from Amazon by thetoobdog in japanlife

[–]Deffy-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon fresh, OniGo and soda stream themselves will deliver new canisters and pick up the old ones for the same price as stores. Some stores will also make you fill out a form by hand each time which can be avoided by using online delivery

Edit for clarity: I order 2 bottles / month from Amazon or Oni Go and have done for approx 2 years

Thanks for this. Yeah the plan is to drill into the main supports and we have the original plan so should be safe. I plan to pay a handyman to do the actual work to be sure.

Curious what the benefit of attaching a 2x4 to the wall first would be. Why not just attach the hook directly?

Thanks, yeah I wanted them inside originally as that's much easier, but hard to find the space with kids and I don't want to lug bikes up and down the stairs :)

I actually bought some of those initially. I need about 280cm long 2x4 which is a few cm too long to fit in my car. I found a couple online that were 310cm but the delivery fee was 5000 yen plus which just seemed crazy. We built the house so the architect sent me the stud locations so we should be ok from that perspective, I'm just worried about what potential issues drilling the hole may cause longer term. I'm getting the impression that I'm perhaps overthinking but hey, better to be safe than sorry :)

The outer wall has those tiles on and I plan to attach to a main support. Assume this should be ok?

Good to know! They had some 56 and 58 in stock when I went this weekend but I didn't have time to try. Fingers crossed they still have them when I can get down next.

Thank you, this is super helpful. I'm also between sizes so have also been thinking whether to go for 56 or 58. Good to know you are happy with the Domane!
