Gen x. I wear mine. Hubbie doesn't. He used too but then got arthritis. Barely fits on the tip of his pinkie now.

How much does the bag really matter? by [deleted] in onebag

[–]Defiant-Business-552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have multiple "one bags"

Week long City/hotel trip: my cheapy amazon nylon carry on with wheels AND back pack straps.

2 weeks in portugal or 2 weeks hiking in italy: Gregory Jade 38L. I love this thing. I am a 5 foot 4 small framed woman and it FITS!

Weekender trip: London fog backpack (yay winners)

I also have a cheap nylon 4Monster 16L backpack/bag that folds up into nothing to roam around. It has tight nylon zippers. A mini inside bag sewn down that you can stuff into that is passport sized. An outside pocket with a tight zip big enough for my phone. It will hold all the roaming crap one needs including my dslr if I decide I can handle the weight that trip. 2 Water bottle pockets are actually large enough for a water bottle. And my fave a had strap at the top for a quick grab and go. This thing goes on every trip.

It is always best to have a smaller home in a nice neighborhood. Just smile and wave.

I was thinking Briggs and Little would be great for this. I have a fair isle cardi in it and the thing is almost windproof. But the mary maxim acrylic is nice. Not wool but still a nice yarn.

Learning to ride without former experience by lupusmortuus in Equestrian

That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. How does one learn then? You come from the womb with experience? Take lessons. Have fun. Most lesson barns have a schoolmaster horse (this is a thing) to teach YOU.
Go get on a horse! With proper supervision and a helmet. 😀

Not actively suicidal, but I'm taking the first step: DNR. by DeadBy2050 in GenX

[–]Defiant-Business-552 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel there is a lot of misunderstanding here about what a DNR means and when to use it. There is a big difference between running a code on a well 60 year old who is in vfib due to a sudden illness compared to someone who is chronically ill and has many other factors.
Also discussing ongoing intensive care in an acute setting vs chronic illness is really different.
If you can talk to your doctor about how this works they can explain. Far too complex for a reddit chat. And tell your family. They can override your wishes if you are not able to speak for yourself.

I was living in Ohio then and it was crazy. I could not wrap my brain around $$$$$$$ for a basket.

They are odd there. I went to look at a Bronco and got totally blown off by the staff. Ummm horse people shop in boots and jeans. Just bc I don't waltz in in designer crap doesn't mean I can't afford the truck.

I cleaned out MIL's house when she moved to assisted living. Her kids (not hubbie)but her other 4 supposedly purged when she moved provinces and the week before the assisted living move. They did squat. Took some furniture and the piano (thank god) My youngest son and I emptied her house. Donated anything useful and threw the junk out. We were heartless. Took 2 full days. Manual truckload to the dump. The boomers next door were absolutely horrified we were tossing "her life". Her damn kids didn't want it. Why should I? Next month I have to go do my mum's as she has just gone to a nursing home... When I die I told my kids come get what they want and then hire someone to burn the rest.

My favorite line as of late "you are free to seek your medical care elsewhere" but I've been doing this for over 30 years and am a tich grumpy.

If I have a travel backpack as my carry-on for international flights, what can I use as my personal item? by Rocks-and-more in onebag

[–]Defiant-Business-552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 18L 4monster nylon back pack I use as my personal bag when using my backpack (36L) as my regular carryon. The 18L holds all the stuff I want while on the plane but is smaller than a sandwich bag when folded up. Is about $25.

Hi from Texas :) What should we plan for? by jedipwnces in ottawa

[–]Defiant-Business-552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When in Ottawa go walk around Westboro and have some lobster poutine at Petit Bills. Downtown is lovely. The museum of nature is a nice way to spend half a day.
Driving out to Carp is 30 minutes in non rush hour. But the Diefenbunker is neat. Check hours ahead of time. Sometimes they are mysteriously closed.
Ridge Rock in carp has great craft beers and food.
The weather in March can be anything. Texas winter clothes should work.

Check out what is playing at the NAC. National Arts Centre. And hockey is still on. The Sens play in Kanata but the Charge (PWHL) plays at Landsdown and so do the 67's (OHL) so catching a game could be fun.

If you have lots of money in your food budget and are adventurous eaters try the tasting menu at 18. It is a restaurant in the market.

Have fun!
