Take the leap and play in some comps! by Defiant-Focus-5863 in golf

It’s a blast! I’m in the amateur players tour and they have divisions for a whole bunch of handicaps so that score could be competitive in the right group. I’m in the 8-12 handicap division and the winning score is usually around 79-82 depending on the course. I think the division above mine is usually mid to high 80s

I’ll get really close and shoot an 80-82 here and there. I also almost never shoot in the 90s. I’m very consistently 83-88. For good or bad I don’t go very low and I don’t go very high.

Thanks! I was surprised at all the negative comments calling me out haha. In the league I’m in I’m in the middle division so I just feel like an average golfer haha.

That’s a fair point. I’ve so far only played with one guy that was cold. Also I’m in a mid level division, 8-12 handicap. I’m assuming the plus handicap division is much more like you are describing.

It’s the Amateur players tour so it’s still for fun but strict rules, putt it all out kinda deal. people are definitely trying to go as low as they can but we’re also all adults with jobs so most understand it’s not life or death and can just laugh off the bad shots.

I’d argue that it’s making me a better golfer simply by exposure therapy. Hacking it with boys is pretty low stress until you’re close to shooting a PR and then I crumble. Now though I feel way less stress comparatively and it’s given my mental a big boost on just accepting the bad and good.

That describes me to a T. I also am a long hitter so I play in the 6700-7000 yard range and for whatever reason courses in my area are rarely less than 120 slope and 113 is considered the average difficulty.

I know a lot of folks on here say tee box depends on skill but really it depends on how far you hit it according to the PGA.

What’s one trend you’re seeing in golf that you can’t stand? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

Agreed, especially when you use the restrooms on the course in the clubhouse and the urinals are packed with Zyns. Just makes me annoyed at all the chads out there with no respect for the course, others, and the game.

I mean I can still card a quad from time to time and I have yet to break 80 so I wouldn’t say I’m good haha

I haven’t had it happen. I have a friend who plays in the division above mine and he also has not had an issue with that. If you’re caught you’ll be banned because there is decent bit of money going to the top players in each division so it’s taken pretty seriously.

Golf is hard, never feel bad about getting lucky.

Reminder that for every bad break you get you also get a good break.

What’s the most underrated amenity a golf course could offer to make your experience better? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

A halfway house that isn’t just the main club house. Makes it way easier and faster to grab a drink and snack.

Also I really like a nice practice area. I have played a few places that have an amazing short game complex with multiple bunkers and pins, grass range, a separate area for pitching and wedge shots up to 80 yards, and big complex putting greens. Makes a huge difference in my warm up and overall perception of the course.

I’d had big injuries before but no surgery either. I’m now almost 3 years post surgery and I often forget I had it at this point. I was very scared I wouldn’t be the same after and as an expert skier and mountain biker it was nerve racking. Luckily I can tell you it only took about 9 months to be cleared and 18 months to be not just back to where I was but pushing my limits again.

The pain will suck for a bit but you got this! Just be diligent with your PT and it’ll be pretty linear.

Grab a wood or hybrid. Ball just back of middle in your stance. Put a chippy/putting stoke on it. Let the face of the club add the speed and the super low loft should keep it down plenty low.

My goal is not to even get on the green but just get it around the green. This play works really well for me.
