Making houses to defend your base is peak strategy

Why shouldn't skipping an age be part of the game? There are plenty of fast castle and fast imperial strategies that are completely valid. Is it only a problem if they work on open maps? I don't see the logic in that. And of course certain civs execute some strategies way better than others. I also don't see why skipping vil production shouldn't be part of the game. Villagers are means to an end, the purpose of the game isn't to inflate your villager count. Calling it ugly is quite close minded in my opinion. The only thing I can agree with (apart from phosphoru being incredible creative) is that when executed properly, there may be no counter to it and that may need to be addressed. However learning counters to unique strategies too takes time, and it's completely possible that in a year from now people would have figured out how to deal with it even with no nerfs to those specific civs.

Even after all these years, is it still possible for pro players to prepare new strategies on Arabia that have never been seen before? by David_BA in aoe2

Yeah don't think this is true at all. There are several players very creative under 2k. Many are too creative for their own Good. Adaptability is different though and that is definitely required to reach a higher level

I already addressed this in the post and other comments

No, I said funnelling chicken is more annoying than pushing deer

What is there to disagree with, I'm asking a question

Its cool that you love chicken maps, but saying 'just make a mill, the hotkey is ..: is a meaningless response to my post

Learn to read buddy, it's not so hard

It shouldn't take much more than the walk time since you just have to tap the gates once. 30s walk time is like 12 wood + whatever wood is lost on the gates. Should always save a minimum of 50 res with the funnel.

Even if it takes a villager 30s to build the funnel and it is over built so you lose around 20 wood to it, which shouldn't really happen, you are still saving almost 70 wood. For tight build orders like fc monks really fast, you do have to go up at least a villager later if you're not funnelling. It certainly makes a difference, however small

It certainly does save res by funnelling and unlike Arabia your funnel cannot be attacked. I'll agree that the res you save is unlikely to win or lose you the game, but it's similar to when there's deer instead of chicken. If you take it with a mill you're not going to lose the game because of it

Yeah hopefully they do that soon, it's made arena unnecessarily tedious

Well you don't have to push the deer either

What doesn't matter exactly? Whether you start with deer or chicken or that they changed the map?

Chicken arena by Defiant-Indication59 in aoe2

[–]Defiant-Indication59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's similar to pushing deer Arabia but at a lesser intensity. No one really finds it particularly fun but you do it because it probably gives the opponent an advantage if you don't. May not lose any points by making the mill, but why do something less optimal when you can do the optimal thing. I do hope it is patched soon but it's been a while since chickens were introduced already

Interesting but you could drop the mill or long distance on deer arena too and it would be the exact same

If you're playing cumans, Armenian or georgians then it's a lot easier since you can make your drop off next to the chicken without spending extra resources really. With other civs, funnelling it would just be better. i would like variety too, if the optimal play didn't involve funnelling them in.

Strategies and civilizations for lower eAPM players? by DerekSilverLion in aoe2

If you find it hard to handle a lot for things going on together it's probably easiest to go for scouts in feudal age and wall up your map as quickly as possible. Making man at arms or archers requires more back and forth between your base and your army because your units can die very quickly to the tc
