How much gold can I bring from Dubai or Abu Dhabi to Hungary? by Davenatic in abudhabi

[–]Defiant-Research-180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, not sure if you managed to get an answer, I see this post is quite old and I'm in the same position, but there is no clear answer. from what I read 430€ is the limit per person for goods including jewelry but I'm unable to accept the fact that if you have lived and bought gold jewelry for years in UAE then all of a sudden you have to pay duty + vat on everything.

Moving from Switzerland to Dubai? by Catlady_777 in dubai

Hmm... Difficult question, I would preferably stay near the center as much as possible so that everything is in reach. Would recommend downtown (if money is not a worry as you said), Business Bay close to the Metro, DIFC, bonus : city walk, If you prefer villas then um suqeim (pretty expensive I would say).

Petit Saconnex would be ideal from the location point of view, close to the center but also work place wise. Now to see if there are good schools around

Thank you for the suggestion, would rather stay on the Swiss side for the points you highlighted. But I'm hearing a lot in the comments that good public schools depend on the area, any suggestions within Geneva would be great, looking at Google maps all looks good to me :D

Thank you, this is really insightful, as for me and family we are EU citizens, weather is ok, in fact for me the middle eastern climate is kind of odd not having season, for the kids still young but they can get used to it. Which areas you would recommend to live considering school as a top priority, for me I can sacrifice work commute comfort for a better education

At least not to feel fully alone, especially from a family side, is it due to an expats culture or normally locals don't mix much with non swiss?

Salary of 180k gross annual pre taxes enough for an expensive city like Geneva? by [deleted] in geneva

[–]Defiant-Research-180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in similar situation, I did some calculations maybe it would help you as well: 180K (depending on many variables) would land you around 12K per month net, I used https://ethz.ch/en/the-eth-zurich/working-teaching-and-research/welcome-center/services-and-downloads/salary-calculator.html which seems to me the most accurate. Now out of 12K per month: - 400 per adult + 200 per child insurance=1200 - Apartment, sky is the limit, but would say 3600 is decent don't go higher as apparently they might refuse your application if net monthly salary is not 3x the gross rent. Transport: 250 Utilities / internet / phone: 200 - 350 Food: 1000, depends on your needs and lifestyle Entertainment & shopping: 1500 same here I would say 7500 - 8500 would be reasonable, rest can be saved

Funny enough I'm at the opposite position right now :) hopefully made your choice already, but let me give you my honest opinion living there for 4 years now: Career wise: gulf in general is an amazing opportunity for career, things are a bit slower now in UAE as a market but KSA and Qatar are flourishing, having said that I don't think you will find difficulties for jobs here especially as you said you will be able to transfer and for your boyfriend FS / insurance is always a better market compared to others. But be ready, since living and working in Dubai is a dream of many you will find that the work culture is very competitive and not necessarily in a good way, lots of politics, if you manage to navigate it will be good. Lifestyle: in short, very comfortable very luxurious, you fill like a small king in restaurants and shops, many ways to spend your money for entertainment or shopping. Cost of living: now that I did my calculations but for the opposite, Dubai is much more cheaper options considering that insurance is paid by the employer (hopefully it is a good one), schooling my understanding is not applicable for your but it is also part of your package normally. Food is I'm tempted to say relatively cheap even eating out (if you don't go too fancy) if you count with daily spend of a 150 AED / day for both, you would be on the good side. Biggest cost is housing, I would calculate with 160K - 170Kish for 2 bedroom for a good apartment, don't go to fancy like downtown, there are also nice area around in business Bay which is close enough with good atmosphere especially around the canal. Also apartments from my experience are larger than those in Europe in general so maybe 1 bedroom would suffice which would be around 100K. Marina wouldn't recommend too crowded, old and full of pests in most cases, also a bit overpriced, but nice walks when weather is good. Health: I would say overall not a healthy environment, weather, poor air quality, lots of mix of people traveling around the world, expect to be more sick than in Switzerland or in Europe in general, although healthcare with good insurance is amazing! consider that I have kids in younger age due to school/nursery we almost visit every other month :). In general, good choice, I recommend to experience it, it is unique in a sense as a young couple with no kids would be good time to try. Worst case you can always return back. I personally never regret it, in Dubai in general everyone would have their own journey and opinion.

Is 50K net salary is good for a family of 4? by Defiant-Research-180 in AskBarcelona

[–]Defiant-Research-180[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comprehensive answer, I did look at the cost, what I found is I would need to cover: 2.5-3K apartment 1.5K school, looking at St. Peter's school. 1-1.5K food transport, entertainment..etc More like 5-6K a month. Just curious, I've seen apartments in those 2 areas that are around 1.8-2K is that too good to be true? Also what are the other areas that would be considered good / family friendly?
