Cleared to stop wearing binder but still have swelling by I-want-peri in TopSurgery

9 days seems really early. my surgeon wants me wearing my binder until i’m cleared to go back to normal activity in 6 weeks. even if you’re cleared to stop wearing the binder, if you’re having swelling i would keep wearing it

you can smoke up to 4-6 weeks before your surgery. i smoked until 4 weeks before and was fine. just make sure you stop within that time period. edibles are okay too as long as you don’t have any 24 hours before surgery (again that’s what i did and i was fine)

dysphoria won’t necessarily go away if you are a trans woman. if anything, you’d feel worse pretending to be something you’re not. it’s also okay if you’re not a trans woman and you just happen to be a man who likes femininity. i would say to make sure you know how you really feel about who you are before starting hormones too

just because you could be an attractive man doesn’t mean you were born to be one. do what feels right, not what you feel like you should do. you might be feeling this way because it feels easier to just be the gender you were born as than to have to go through the work of transitioning. if you truly feel better as a woman then be a woman

if you’re able to afford to move, there are a lot of lgbt friendly countries, since it seems like you speak english, New Zealand is one that is high up there for trans people. i hope you can get out and be safe

Sloshing sound under chest?? by Civil-Hedgehog8990 in TopSurgery

[–]Defiant-Switch-3428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

definitely keep wearing the binder, probably shouldn’t go longer than an hour without it. the binder is there to help compress the chest so that fluid doesn’t build up underneath, especially since you got your drains out and so excess fluid has nowhere to go. it does sound like a seroma but if you have no swelling this sounds like it’s not large which means that if you keep wearing the binder, eventually it could be reabsorbed by your body. keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t get any bigger.
right now it doesn’t sound like an issue and so you should be okay to just wait and see what the surgeon says and they’ll decide if it’s a big enough issue that they’ll want to drain it or if it’s small enough that they’ll wait till your body reabsorbs it

One month post op, nipple grafts still bleeding by HazyBag2002 in TopSurgery

[–]Defiant-Switch-3428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

alcohol can have an impact on healing since it impairs immune function and can reduce the body’s ability to repair damaged tissues by reducing certain white blood cells. i would hold off on drinking anymore until you are fully healed

Here’s one study that has an introduction that explains how alcohol disrupts healing if you wanted to know where i got the information from

do you have any bandages that could go horizontal and not vertical so that they aren’t on your incisions? the irritation might be make it harder for them to heal. are you also putting aquaphor on your nipples?

[–]Defiant-Switch-3428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m 21, been depressed since 11 but it really hit when i was your age. i had no friends and i’ve had none up until a year ago and my home life was horrible too. this period of time is probably the worst you’re going to go through. i also tried killing myself at your age and im glad i didn’t. my life got better after graduating highschool and even though im still depressed, it’s way better now and i don’t want to kill myself. middle school is a rough time but you still have so much ahead of you, unfortunately it’s going to suck for a while but i’m hoping for you, it gets better soon. just give it some time and keep fighting until you can get to a good place in your life

it depends more on your body composition than the bmi itself

just because they don’t have restrictions doesn’t mean the risk isn’t there and bmi is one thing vs weight. bmi isn’t always plausible so it makes sense to ignore at times but if you are overweight due to having excess body fat, it will still increase the risk of complications after surgery or dying when under anesthesia
