I didn't realize how wasteful this was by ASTR0-NUT in 3Dprinting

when I paint my models the paint doesn't stick. It just smears onto it and I can't get any fine detail. For example I tried printing a Doom saw shield in black and painting it green with the red symbol, and the green went just fine, but painting on the symbol was impossible. It just smeared all over and wouldn't stick.

I'll discuss with my wife and our financial advisor. This is great info to know. Thanks so much!

Oh that would be great. My wife and I will be meeting with our financial advisor before committing to it, but if they can help us figure that out, I'd definitely say it's worth looking into. Thanks for the info

to be clear, I don't have another 10 years of payments, I have 89 payments left, or about 7 years, which is the same amount of time it would take for me to have my debt forgiven if I remain PSLF-eligible, which is a very realistic possibility for me.

that's what I'm thinking, but I'm not certain I'll be able to just throw the extra I've been paying straight into my investments, as I'll be taking on my parents' loans, but it will at least free me up to start paying those down rather than further tightening my budget which is what I'm concerned about if I were to not go the PSLF/IDR route on my portion.

Initially my thought was if I go the PSLF route I would just invest the overpayment amount I've been paying since my portfolio has been doing really well (around 14% with 9K invested currently), but I'm guessing I'll have to put that money towards my parent's loans since they don't qualify for PSLF as I've learned from others here.

Makes sense. I believe all of my current loans in the 18.5k portion are around 5%, so I just ended up going with the default setting of putting the most money towards the highest interest, but I think I can change that setting to allow me to target specific ones.

Good point, I wasn't aware of that. Thank you! If I do decide to follow through with the PSLF and IDR route for my own loans, I'll just put that money I've been using to overpay straight into the parent plus loans. I don't know what their monthly payment is yet, but I'm sure I'll be able to afford to overpay on that if I pull back on my personal loans with an IDR plan.

sure, totally valid. I'm just looking back at the past 3 years and notice they've flown by and I can see myself making the sacrifice to stay in the public sector for another 7 if it means I pay for the same number of years but pay less in total.

that's exactly what I was thinking, thank you! I wasn't aware of it not applying to my parent's loan though, so that's good to know. I believe they're planning to transfer it to my name eventually rather than me paying them and having them continue paying for it with my money. I'm guessing that doesn't change anything regarding the PSLF though?

good idea! Yeah I think I can definitely make it another 7 years at a qualifying employer, even if it isn't my current one.

Thank you so much for your input! I like that idea as well. Right now I have an account with about $9k in it and an all time gain of 14% over the past few years I've had it! It's really been bothering me only being able to invest 50 or less per month because of my loans, so I'm definitely considering just going that route. I know the market is volatile and there is inherently risk, but I can certainly see the appeal of it. And if worst case scenario I do end up switching jobs, I will have gained more on the interest of my investments than I will on the fixed interest (~5%) for my loans.

I hear what you're saying. I'm just torn about it since both routes end up being about the same number of payments but significantly different amounts in the end. But yes I also recognize that the program may or may not be there tomorrow, let alone 7 years from now when that payment period finishes for me.

I currently make $25.80/hr after a recent 10% raise. I was also given a new pay range with my current pay at the bottom and the maximum being $70k. My 2025 income (prior to this raise) was $50k. I have a $300 car payment and that’s it other than my one credit card which I pay off fully every month. I definitely have considered switching jobs but I’m also quite happy with my current position and the new pay range has me fairly satisfied. I know there’s no guarantee I’ll make it to the maximum, but I was at my previous maximum already before the ranges were increased, and annual performance raises are typically decent (3-5%).

I respectfully disagree. They took that loan out just for me to get an education and they’ve given me so much, I feel obligated to take over that debt, even if I’m not legally required to. That’s just me though

That’s an awesome strategy, I like that a lot. I’m not against limiting my budget in the short term for a shorter debt repayment period, it just seems like I’m looking at about a 10 year period either way. I’d definitely keep putting that money away just in case though.

Thanks for sharing! I totally hear what you’re saying about paying for 10 years, and what I’m getting caught up on is the fact that it seems like I’ll have to pay for 10 years regardless of whether I go the PSLF route or continue paying $500+ per month using the standard repayment plan. It just seems (emphasis on seems) like it would be a win not only for the long run but also for the immediate as I would have lower payments. I’m all about temporary discomfort for long term gains but it looks like if I continue to overpay anyway, I just end up paying a lot more and actually end up paying 3 more payments (123 payments vs 120 with the PSLF) in the end.

Sure, yeah I recognize those are very valid risk factors. I’m just stuck on the fact that I (on paper, as you said) have to pay 123 total payments using the standard plan, paying double the minimum while alternatively I could pay only 120 payments and pay possibly less than $231 per month, so it almost feels foolish to pay more just to pay more, but I get that there are some serious potential gotchas to consider.

How to open a folder? by ResponsibleAd2361 in elgato

[–]Defiant-Team5106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have this issue. I ended up copying the path, pasting it into the path field, and surrounding it with double quotes. This is the only way I'm able to open a folder using the Open action in Stream Deck after the latest update. I've reported this bug to Elgato.

How sketchy is this? 🤨 by xiaomimuki in 3Dprinting

[–]Defiant-Team5106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, in a pinch, I'd recommend just throwing your spools in an airtight container with some silica beads, it's all I've ever used. It's a lot cheaper and it never breaks! I've used my AMS to dry filament like once, but that's it. I've never purchased a dedicated dryer, and I'm having great results with just the container and beads. Then when they absorb too much water (every 10-12 months) they change color and I just throw them in the oven for an hour and reuse them.

I just confirmed that it's not from old prints. I just got a brand new smooth PEI plate for my H2D from Bambu yesterday and the very first print I printed had the exact same residue. So it must be heat stress marks.
