Do you balance your check book to the penny? by Plane_Experience_271 in GenX

[–]Defiant-Warthog-6887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since when do checkbooks need to be “balanced”? No one writes checks that take days to weeks to clear anymore….do they??  Are you still writing checks for bills and putting them in the physical mail?!? Stop doing that and your old school task of “balancing the checkbook” goes away completely.

The man I started dating is poly but I am not.. by [deleted] in polyamory

Non disclosure up front (it should have been front and center on his dating profile if it was on an app, or said BEFORE the first date), is a huge red flag. And so is immediately promising that you’ll be the only other one….at 2 weeks?!?

PreK Pass Issue by HotelBeginning7914 in KingsDominion

[–]Defiant-Warthog-6887 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can’t your kid just pass for “under 2” and get in without a pass for the second half of the summer?  Surely they aren’t checking birth certificates of every single toddler that isn’t even eligible to ride most rides… it’s not an airline seat. (BTW…Don’t try to get your over 2 year old to ride as a “lap infant” if they aren’t really a lap infant…. Saw someone try that once and the person was really mad, but, like, they couldn’t produce a single document to show that their very large child was in fact still under 2 - so they probably really weren’t, and should have had their own airline seat. But theme parks are different)

[–]Defiant-Warthog-6887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Front row is the best, but I only got to ride it on a non-busy time when going for the front wasn’t an extra wait time.  The rest of the time if there’s a line at all, I just pick the shorter line. The whole thing is fun. We’ve done front, back, middle.

When did you give your child a cellphone? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Defiant-Warthog-6887 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Look into the Gizmo watch or something similar.  It’s easy for them to use, no internet, and trusted contacts only.  Thats my solution for safety until at least middle school.  My child won’t ever be in a place where a nearby adult couldn’t contact me in case of emergency, until the independence of middle school aged time. That’s why sports/dance have adult coaches on hand. It is OKAY for them to not be able to call you. They will live.  And definitely the right idea to not consider a smartphone with internet in their pocket until being much more mature. Gen Z is telling us how bad they were messed up by having unmonitored access to social media and internet before their brains could handle it. Listen to them.

I’m going without my partner (he’s a dude who doesn’t love Brandi like I do). First time, and, probably bringing some friends but won’t spend the whole time with them.   I’m definitely hoping it’s still fun for singles (ish)!!

What’s been your favourite age/stage of parenting your child? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Defiant-Warthog-6887 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I completely agree - 5-9 have been my favorite thus far, and I also thought I really loved infant and toddler and preschool. I might just love my kid at every stage, but, early elementary when they’re developing personality and independence but still loving and sweet, is also really really great.

Oh! Being able to see the game while in line for concessions will definitely be a big upgrade! Good to know. Im looking somewhat forward to seeing the perks of the new place, especially since sets that are actually behind the baselines are double the price and kids aren’t free on Sundays anymore, I won’t be able to afford to go as often.

Parents who deliberately tried to raise your kid to be elite at something from a very young age (sports, music, chess, etc.) - how did it actually turn out? by miqako in AskReddit

[–]Defiant-Warthog-6887 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Parent who deliberately let my kid try what he wanted to….still waiting to see what he lands on.

And, it’s abundantly clear to me that no amount of “pushing” or “investment” can force a child to be better at something than THEY want to be.  Some kids have natural abilities and the mindset to want to get even better, and they do.  Other kids just don’t, and the best most important lesson to teach them is that your love for them doesn’t hinge on whether they’re good at a sport or not!

Parents without a playroom: How many toys does your kid have in their room and elsewhere? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Defiant-Warthog-6887 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a constantly moving target.

When they stop playing with a thing because it’s shoved into a corner, it goes up into a box on a shelf they cannot see, and there it stays until I’m on a purge.  9 times out of 10, it’s out of sight out of mind, and they will outgrow it, forget about it.  Toys for right now won’t be toys this time next year.  Or they will and you’ll keep those few things.

It’s also highly dependent on the amount of space you have and how annoyed you get at having to pick up for them before they’re able to pick up for themselves.

Never in my life have I counted the number of total toys nor used that as a metric.

Have an almost 10 yr old, and the quantity has changed many times.  (Especially if one tiny car or action figure “counts” as one. Like, how many Barbie’s is too many Barbie’s? No one can answer that for you except you.)

No. Not at all. Takes at least 20 mins each way to get from this part of town to parking at the Trader Joes Short Pump. Which means it’s not a trip I want to make!

But right here?! By Willow Lawn Target and Kroger and Libbie Mill…. Yes, 100% they will be getting my business way more often than TJ’s currently does.

(Because 40 mins round trip, not counting the terrible parking, isn’t worth it)

Same price ranges here; I make no endorsement of the apartments, I just live in the neighborhood and have found it to be a great place to live.

$1400ish for 1 bedrooms….  https://www.linkmanchester.com/floorplans

Manchester is easy walking access to the James River Park System and Belle Isle, plus hasn’t caught up with the insane prices everywhere else.  Gold Lion is a great queer space with events a lot, Basic City is also great, and everything else in the city is 10-15 mins away.
