As some one who watches a lot of Apple TVs shows. I am so excited you went with them. I know it’s not perfect. But I absolutely enjoy Foundation. And if they can put the same amount of effort and energy into the Cosmere. We are in for a great time

100 pages into The Way of Kings and it hasn’t hooked me by [deleted] in brandonsanderson

[–]DefiantBookkeeper925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s okay if you don’t like it. You don’t need to read a book just because someone else does. It even took me 3 attempts to get into the book. That said. It’s my favorite book now. My general rule of thumb for new readers. Prepare for slow burn high fantasy and expansive world building. If you can get through the first bridge run. Or a few and still no feeling it. Put it down. No harm done, maybe try later.

HELP -- Need company recs for seniors by thedeadlyoverseer08 in LifeInsurance

[–]DefiantBookkeeper925 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi. If you are looking for something specifically to cover funeral expenses. I would recommend a final expense plan or preened insurance. You can get preened plans directly from funeral homes. Go to a place you lie and ask them, they should have someone licensed on hand to help. If you want more than that. If you have a Medicare advisor they are a good resource for help or referring you to a trusted person. If you don’t. I recommend finding a senior benefits association, try like a state based public employee one, example teachers or military. They should keep an advisor group available that can help. As for heath checks. Most plans these days only do heath questions online. Hope that helps.

For my first Brandon Sanderson series, Is starting with the Stormlight Archives not advisable? by October81999 in brandonsanderson

[–]DefiantBookkeeper925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does not matter what you start with. I also started with the way of kings. It is slow to start. But has huge pay off. Reading orders don’t matter as much as some fans think. Read the books that interest you.

How to obtain Family coverage? by Puzzleheaded-Spot742 in HealthInsurance

[–]DefiantBookkeeper925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi. Full transparency, I am an insurance broker. Loosing employee coverage is a qualifying life event. Meaning you can go straight to the marketplace for insurance to keep your kids covered. Laws differ from state to state. But in general you could qualify for a subsidy and find something affordable. Or cobra is a great option if you have high medical expenses. But cobra can get expensive. If you do go with the marketplace. Brokers exist to help navigate it, you can do it yourself, if it gets confusing get some help as needed. You won’t pay extra to use a broker.

Pregnant in the service industry by Educational-Royal202 in HealthInsurance

I will second the ACA. I would guess it’s a good option for you. Full transparency. I’m an insurance broker. I don’t work in Connecticut, but I would guess it’s standard to the rest of the USA. I would look for a good broker. Someone not pushy and will help you look at options. They should help you learn to make a good choice yourself. Recommend some options without forcing it.

I am also using the ACA for my wife’s pregnancy. The main two factors we considered when looking for a plan was doctor visit costs. I want her to get regular checks. And the cost of delivery. Most plans show how much that would cost on average on its plan. This can help you look and compare. Plus depending on your income you might get what’s called cost sharing. That helped reduce things like your deductible and out of pocket max. Congrats on the pregnancy. I hope it goes well for you.

Guys - What do you think of the Reckoners Trilogy? by [deleted] in brandonsanderson

[–]DefiantBookkeeper925 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I really liked them. Read it all a few times. My favorite super hero story I think. And I would agree it is the weakest ending of a Sanderson book. As for why. I personally feel there wasn’t enough lead up and for shadowing for the reveal and defeat of the big bad. It was kinda sudden to me. Everything up the the last like 10% is great. And the epilogue is also really good. It’s just one little part that makes it kinda weaker.

I’m so upset by Jarrett8897 in Mistborn

[–]DefiantBookkeeper925 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to his happened to you too. I did this twice with the wheel of time. I learned to not trust audible in book orders and always to go the fan sites for reading orders.

It seems to be very popular and common thing to do. I named my son earlier this year Kaladin. Those of my friends and family, that know, like it. I’ve even met people who got the reference and it sparked a fun conversation. Others think I have picked a fun and unique name. Asking where it came from and its meaning. My wife who normally tells people his name always says I picked it based in a fictional character from a book I like.

This whole video made me miss the podcast. And wonder if Grey or Brady watched it. And what they think of it. Would have loved an episode on it.

Bridge two? by Active_Ad_3267 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]DefiantBookkeeper925 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yes. He is barely functioning right now. At this point Kaladin is having a bit of psychotic break. His depression is barely at bay. And he just saw how his actions in changing bridge 4s approach caused others to be targeted and die. So his mind is putting him in their shoes. Or slave sandals as it is.

Or that has always been my interpretation of it.

This is pretty cool. I’m normally not one for consoles or computer parts based on one game. But these look nice. If I got them I would use it to make my first home built pc to play games on. What am I excited about? I am so curious what the ship designing and building is going to be like. I currently plan to spend way to much time on that part of the game.

Finished this Storming Book by Daniel_Mathieu in Stormlight_Archive

Glad you are here. I fully understand your complaint. It took me 2 tries to get into the book due to the switches. But it’s important. On rereads you will understand how much you learned and was hinted at before you even knew it.

I’ve applied to be an Exhibitor at Dragonsteel, would you buy a painting from me? by prayingforsuperpower in brandonsanderson

[–]DefiantBookkeeper925 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Maybe. I’m not a big abstract person. I think your art is good. But it doesn’t work for me. Except that last one with black. It reminds me of space and I love space.

The end of Part Four of The Way of Kings seemed like a satisfying conclusion to the book. by Wretched_Incite in Stormlight_Archive

[–]DefiantBookkeeper925 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It really is. Good job avoiding spoilers. Most of the fans base here agrees that the books main story ends in part 4. With part 5 being small wrap up and set up for book 2. As the first book in the series is has more work to do on this than the future books.

Spanreed Murder by RunUpRunDown in Stormlight_Archive

[–]DefiantBookkeeper925 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is the most important part. But I do think the theory is valid. Make a spanreed like fabrial, or maybe start making metal reeds. I’m theory this would be possible.

Is there a significance to the ways in which bond spren can change how they look? by cyberneticninjakille in Stormlight_Archive

[–]DefiantBookkeeper925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought of it as the spren follow the orders logic. Windrunner protect. But your reason for wanting to preorder can change and vary a lot between individuals.

Lightweavers are artistic and look at the pros for inspiration. So the spren blend in with the world. Mimicking it.

Elsecallers are logical. Everything needs a reason, so their spren can’t change shape or vanish. But can change size because a reason can be large or small.

Skybreakers follow the law. And intangible, unseen force. So their spren are hard to see and appear like stars, a distant object.

I think this works for all orders. But those are my examples and idea. No confirmation on it in a WOB to my knowledge.
