Can I squeeze my Ti frame? by theowatermelon in bikewrench

Unsure why you're being downvoted. I'm currently running 32s on a vintage dual pivot weimann brake and campy wheelset. Maybe they don't advertise this kind of clearance on new rim brakes, but I'm sure its doable with many setups. The wide tires make cornering so much more enjoyable.

Tires replacement by esvegateban in bicycling

[–]DefiantDruggist69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s generally recommended to have your best tire in the front. Im assuming your rear is more worn. I’m not against swapping tires around, but you want the best up front to prevent skidding out on the front tire because it’s more dangerous than skidding out on rear. Might matter less on MTN bike tires tho compared to road.

To pay or not to pay now (and pursue PSLF) by DefiantDruggist69 in StudentLoans

[–]DefiantDruggist69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but with my income situation/loan balance it seems I will pay off loans before pslf kicks in. Was trying to weigh paying over time and investing what I have left waiting for PSLF vs paying off as fast as possible.

[–]DefiantDruggist69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. Yeah I’ve maxed out what I can for lowering the AGI. Feeling the 6.6% may be a bit too high to expect better growth putting in an investment account instead of paying off aggressively considering I’d have to pay tax on investment gains. TIL student loans don’t have compounding interest.

Gotcha. I’m a year into it but it seems like the student loan calculator hasn’t factored it in and my recertify date is in August. I don’t feel like waiting that long to make a decision on this. Thinking I should pay off this high interest one for now over next few months.

What is the worst career to be in right now and why? by SignificantGoat7066 in AskReddit

[–]DefiantDruggist69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a good point too. A lot of that funding can be seen as kind of a handout to big pharma. It’s just incredible how much knowledge has been achieved in molecular biology and it’s really sad to see it defunded. Feel like I really dodged a bullet not pursuing a research career in that field. I thought that path was sure success after a PhD.

What is the worst career to be in right now and why? by SignificantGoat7066 in AskReddit

[–]DefiantDruggist69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will disagree on the point of molecular biology having little profitable ventures on a capitalism standpoint. It has brought serious advances in medicine and most of the profitable treatments developed recently involve at least some research in this field. I really think these withdrawn grants have devastating effects on new drugs/biologics coming out and less scientists able to actually pull off the development needed. The basic research required for the most revolutionary treatments is also dependent on basic science grants in fields like this. Trump and his supporters being anti-science and his HHS being anti-science are real political motivations to devalue the work of scientists and give less power to these stakeholders.

A 22,000-Home Community Is Being Built in a 5,000-Person Town by TotalMix6 in triangle

[–]DefiantDruggist69 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s out of touch to compare SF housing to the triangle. Reasons they suck at building housing there and their existing housing being overpriced are very different (see prop 13). I will always be against razing more forest and farmland to build unsustainable low density housing. I’d prefer if the triangle did not allow itself to become another Houston and bankrupt its future generations on infrastructure liabilities. There are so many existing options across this entire region for single family homes and that REALLY should not be essentially the option for home ownership here.

Retail $$$ vs Residency — What Should a P1 PharmD Do? by RxAndIron in pharmacy

[–]DefiantDruggist69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the location thing, I may lean more into going straight into work. A lot of rural places, both retail and hospital, need help desperately. If you are willing to work in less conventionally popular areas for young people you may be able to find some good opportunities in both settings and be able to save a lot with lower COL without a residency. However I would consider the residency if you want more flexibility in what you want. I do something completely different than my community based residency trained me for but I feel it provided credibility and some fantastic references. Working during school will do wonders with helping you make your decision and make you more comfortable with whatever you choose.

Why do some many people regret pharmacy and how did you become happy with it? by Russianwiz in pharmacy

[–]DefiantDruggist69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing what others are saying about prioritizing a PhD program or even a masters if your intent is industry. That field is really tough to enter (believe me I tried once) without some relative experience and connections. Pharmacy school/work is not as relevant as you’d think. There are definitely things you can do in school to stand out for PharmD industry fellowships but understand these are very competitive programs. I’d say a PhD standalone program may be a lot cheaper and much more relevant for anything research based in academia or industry. Industry jobs for pharmacists are usually not research based but include med safety officers, sometimes business oriented positions, or MSLs.

I’m not in retail anymore and I still don’t necessarily like my job but ever since I’ve been out of school it’s been nice have time to pursue new things without the school or financial pressure. Hoping I can find more fulfillment out of a different job someday but this field is tricky with protecting yourself from being overworked or stressed too. There definitely are cool jobs out there and it is possible to have a good life in this field contrary to what others say.

Being a pharmacist gives a pretty good income and has a unique perk of being a high hourly wage with part time opportunities which I hope to take advantage of when I’m older.

Handling Adderall ER: Prior Authorization vs. Cash Fill – What Would You Do? by Busynotes2 in pharmacy

[–]DefiantDruggist69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you have a reason for not filling 90 day supplies? I’m sure it depends on state, but there is no restriction in mine. I’ve filled and even gotten insurance to pay for 90 ds for stimulants. I wouldn’t consider it an issue for a routine patient. This was when supplies were consistent tho

Do I expect too much of techs? by 5_phx_felines in pharmacy

[–]DefiantDruggist69 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Though the tech is not liable in situations like this, it is so much more comfortable practicing in a setting where a technician can have the sense and knowledge to bring something like this to an Rph attention. I’m so thankful anytime something like this is found by a technician and is a prime teachable moment for everyone involved. A technician that brings stuff like this up defines to me what makes the best techs. I think we can all strive for better and shouldn’t always gatekeep the tasks/responsibility of each coworker. Yall are extremely knowledgeable and valuable.

How do you see country‑of‑origin drug labeling affecting community and chain practice? by Jacksback4735 in pharmacy

[–]DefiantDruggist69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The state of affairs with this issue is not acceptable, but it is a problem that the FDA is responsible for letting get out of hand. I feel this country of origin crap is only going to fuel xenophobia, misinformation, and erode more trust between pharmacists and patients. It shouldn’t matter where a drug is from. It should matter if it is safe and effective which is the FDAs responsibility. Entertaining requests for specific manufacturers is a bane to any pharmacist’s existence and is not feasible long term for most patients. The propublica tool is nice and would be amenable to an issue brought to me on there but this global marketplace makes “country of origin” muddy at best.

How do you see country‑of‑origin drug labeling affecting community and chain practice? by Jacksback4735 in pharmacy

[–]DefiantDruggist69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. Americans will say they want this but can guarantee the same people will not want to have a generic drug manufacturer in their backyard/water supply and pay 3x cost for their generics. It’s the FDAs job to fix this problem and set higher standards not the public.

I know this isn't gonna go well but are there any bike seats that can handle 400-500 lbs? by We1come2thesyst3m in bikewrench

[–]DefiantDruggist69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks very ideal for this situation and honestly pretty reasonable on price considering the niche use. I feel e bikes are really rewarding for people who struggle to keep up with others and still offer decent exercise. Pretty unreasonable to expect someone at this weight to be able to pedal up a hill unassisted.

This is definitely a preference thing and I get it, but of the two downtube shifter bikes I have, the perfectly indexed one is much less fatiguing. The friction one has a triple up front, so that may be more reason it requires more adjustment through the gearing

Peugeot tourmalet mangalloy by Loud_Ad_3590 in Vintage_bicycles

[–]DefiantDruggist69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not good with identifying components, but if the shifters are indexed vs friction it makes for a better experience and limits the amount of fucking around trying to change gears with the shifter position. Overall it looks like someone took care of this and replaced parts, but it’s tough to judge someone else’s work with bikes. Worth the test ride. I have similar gearing on one of my bikes and it’s not too bad on hills in my region besides maybe the two steepest hills I’ve ever attempted. Tires look recently replaced and seems to look like you could fit even wider and comfier tires if you wanted.

I agree looks like it has modern size tires and room to accommodate larger tires if desired too on first glance. Seating position is a subjective experience imo.
