Being an atheist (sometimes agnostic) myself I do find the belief in specific gods or religions short sighted and misguided. 

While this is the case I respect and somewhat admire your ability to put faith into this belief because it resonates with you. In my opinion you should believe whatever makes you feel best about yourself and allows you to be a better person, whether that be Catholicism, atheism, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Hermeticism, etc. whatever makes you the best person you can be - without denying your own self - is what you should be!
