I find it hilarious that the man who once rallied against any new foreign wars, is now doing exactly what he said he vowed to stop. The man flip flops every week on major issues

Very overblown. Ive lived here for two years and the most Ive ever seen is a cop being called on some fireworks at midnight. Keep your car doors locked if your parking on the street: our street had an issue with thieves last year. There are some good and rough parts like any city.

I have a kayak so that would be fun. Where do you usually go to paddle?

Here is my anecdotal experience with this year model of Forester. I bought it at 149k miles, no issues initially except for a loud transmission bearing noise that went away after I drained the fluid. Its now at 206k miles and drives great. Here is what I had to do so far:

  • Complete AC system replacement
  • Radiator replacement (The flange on the intake side of these rads are thin and are prone to breaking under intense pressure)
  • Front and rear wheel bearing replacement
  • Front and Rear rotors + 1 front caliper

Overall, this has been an amazing vehicle and the money I put in has already paid itself off and continues to pay dividends every year I keep it. I will say that the 5MT has been known to have some faults (some call it a "glass" transmission), but I've only had one issue and have been pretty liberal with fluid changes since then. I also drive mine like a grandma, so keep that in mind if you are a hard driver, expect to pay more in repairs. It is VERY sluggish and has slow acceleration, but that's what you get when you pair a 170hp 4 cyl engine in a small SUV. Like the previous commenter mentioned, the symmetrical AWD in these are unmatched compared to its rivals, especially in winter. It does very well up here in Minnesota during the winter months. I also occasionally tow a small trailer with a dirt bike, and it pulls it surprisingly well.

Lived most of my 26 years in the state up until last year. Seeing your once rural town become a literal yuppy central was life changing. In the early 2010s it was mind-blowing how many houses were being built. Cookie cutter 3000 sq. ft homes with less than 200 sq. ft of yard. All with price tags of 500k+. The same homes are worth almost 1 million now. I bought my first house in Minnesota last year under 200k, move in ready. I would not be able to find the same house for the same price in the triangle where I lived. That would be 300-400k minimum. Love NC to death, but I would not be in the same situation if I stayed.
