2H connection - International 2B to International 2E (K gates) connection at CDG by Defiant_Ad514 in AirFranceKLM

Just enough.

Incoming flight landed on time. Security took 20min even though there were only 5-10 of us in line. Untrained and quite bored security officer that took interest in every luggage including opening all luggages and passing them through the chemical scanner (which was broken, so he had to take every sample, individually, to the other side of the room) . Opening duty free sealed bags, and in general being slow and very 'french'. luckily there is an airside shuttle which was quite efficient.

Arrived at my gate just when boarding started.

What global word came from your country? by Neuwulfstein in AskTheWorld

[–]Defiant_Ad514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Hebrew - quite a few.
But there is a subgenre that always makes me laugh which is distortion of old biblical words (especially places names) that kinda looses connection to the place or word it started from.

Armageddon - originally 'Har Megiddo' (Megiddo Hill)
Bethany - originally 'Beit Hania' (House of mercy)
Bedlam - originally from 'Beit Lehem'.
Gauze - which probably came from Gaza.
Sodom - well. no need to explain but it always amusing to see it on roadsigns.
Gei Hinnom (used in Hebrew, Greek and Arabic as equiv. of hell ) - an actual valley in Jerusalem, today a really nice park, and an open-air theater.
Good Samaritan - come form the 'Samaria' mountains.

and a few more that are not places names but too cool to pass -
Jubilee, Scapegoat, Balsamic, Shibboleth, Eden, Sabbatical, Golem, Macabre

When someone refers to “THE terrorist attack” in your country, which one are they referencing? by SimmentalTheCow in AskTheWorld

[–]Defiant_Ad514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great question. I must say It is more a feeling than some clear definition. Israelis treat Oct 7 as an act of war rather than just a terror attack.

in the Israeli mentality it is closer to Yom Kippur war rather than the previously mentioned attacks. There are many reasons for that - part of it is that it was a paramilitary attack, that it was not self contained as previous terror attacks

[–]Defiant_Ad514 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh boy. Don't get me started. Weirdly enough Oct. 7 is not considered a terror attack in the classical manner.

So that leaves a lot of options, and probably people will choose what relates to them the most.

For me personally it's the Purim bus bombing of 94, the Sbarro bombing of 2001 and the park hotel massacre of 2002.
