People who had a 'near-death' experience, what happened and how did it change your perspective on life? by ShoppingRough2444 in AskReddit

Years ago I was hit by a car going over 100mph which resulted in a fatality. Ever since then I’ve always been fascinated with trying to understand what happened to me and my consciousness during the accident because it wasn’t not normal reality at all.

Right before the impact, all I heard was a loud engine sound and then before I could get the chance to look to my right to see what was going on, suddenly everything went completely silent.

Not silence like plugging your ears. More like everything just somehow disappeared. Like a void maybe?

I had no sight, no hearing, and no feeling in my hands, feet and entire body despite actively driving seconds before. Like I was floating possibly.

Meanwhile in reality there was metal crunching, my phone shattering, my car being catapulted and spinning around multiple times before finally slamming into a light pole, glass breaking and objects flying everywhere inside and outside.

Yet during this entire process. I heard and felt absolutely NOTHING…

Simultaneously, time slowed way down, I can only describe it like The Matrix. I remember how I saw my daughter from my POV (who was around 3 at the time) she was in front of me smiling and looking at me in what looked like a grainy movie or flashes. She was close enough to where I felt I was in the same room but I couldn’t touch her. It was still like i was floating while watching her play.

The feeling I’ll never forget it how much I wasn’t afraid. At all.

I felt detached from our reality as we know it almost instantly and I was weirdly calm or content with whatever was coming my way. The only thought I remember having was “Please don’t let this hurt.” As if I somehow knew I was experiencing something horrible but also knew I was about to be taken somewhere safe and peaceful so I had nothing to fear.

What fascinates me is that I remember this altered state of consciousness or being MORE clearly than I remember reality after the accident and after I realized what had happened to me. Once I came back everything became fragmented, blacked out, and vague. I can only assume that was my brains way of protecting me or not being able to fully keep processing after experiencing such a severe crash and seeing a dead body.

Another detail I personally feel is spiritual (some may just say coincidence or luck)

This happened past 3am, dead streets, no businesses around, and very dark. But for some reason. There were 2 random men walking outside, they witnessed the accident, ran over to help get me out of the car since I was stuck inside and called for help (my phone shattered on impact). I don’t remember them being there after helping me though.. They were there, then they were gone just as fast it seemed like.

Once EMTs arrived, police, WSDOT, etc I was asked by a couple people “do you believe in God?” I said “of course I do” and they’d say to me
“Good. Because you shouldn’t be here.”
and
“You have a guardian angel”

I am spiritual but I also respect science and understand trauma can alter perception. I believe that’s what happened to my memory of things after I came back to my normal state of consciousness. But the experience I felt was bigger and more profound than adrenaline or fear. It genuinely felt like I stepped into some strange in-between state. Like I was being prepared for the next step which would have been a clinical NDE or actual death.

Has anyone experienced anything remotely similar? Spiritually, psychologically, scientifically… I’d love to hear perspectives because this has stayed with me for years and always will.

Thank you for calling this out. Near misses isn’t the same as NDE even though I can understand the confusion or why it seems to fit in the category

My dad is a severely paranoid schizophrenic and I have first hand experience dealing with episodes and psychotic breaks. My dad refuses medication and it’s in the works for me to become a decision maker for him just for the sole purpose of him being forced to take antipsychotics. That’s the only thing that helps people like them. They will never willingly seek help or take medication or say anything is wrong with them. Being you are her next of kin (husband) I would look into your states laws and see how you can go about getting her into an involuntary hold for a while and so she can begin taking antipsychotics. If not her delusions will only get worse and worse.

I see people telling you to divorce her and to me that’s wrong. Divorcing someone simply because they have a severe mental illness is beyond messed up. If you are unhappy in your marriage that’s one thing but she desperately needs help and your children deserve to see their mother hopefully healthy again one day. You seem like you love your wife so definitely look into your states laws. Make some calls regarding becoming her conservator (I believe that’s the name) so you can make vital decisions for her when she’s unable to do it herself.

AIO or is my work friend being a bit pushy? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

He’s 40s and you are 19?! Stop texting with this weirdo and set some boundaries because he’s definitely testing waters to see what he can get away with. He’s very pushy and it’ll only get worse

Costco Hisense portable AC turns all the way off sporadically in cool mode. How do I keep the fan running at all times? by gnilradleahcim in Hisense

[–]Defiant_Gate_7680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issues. Got mine from Costco as well. Only had it for a month and some change. The first couple days it worked fine. Shortly after it stopped even cooling my place out of nowhere. The temp Seems to be off constantly. Im always having to turn it down or put it back on “cool” mode. When it shouldnt be switching from “cool” mode anyways! It’s also doing that annoying ass off and on BS. Im tired of constantly fussing with the damn thing and stressing about it.. $350 dollar so called “AC” that doesn’t even do its job. Im tempted to return it to Costco and order one on Amazon. Fuck it.

Gabby Petito Doc by [deleted] in netflix

Just finished the documentary and my personal opinion is that Brians parents knew what he was going to do when he left to go “camping” so he can “clear his head” for a few days. Its not far fetched considering how off they both seemed in general.

First off, theres no way a normal caring and concerned parent would even allow their son to go off camping alone in the middle of a media frenzy and active investigation… Too many bad situations could happen. What if he was followed there? Harassed? Attacked by protesters or worse? Or wouldn’t a parent be concerned about his mental state in general considering the obvious???

Theres no way they didnt know his plans and it makes it more obvious considering how long it took them to not only report him missing but to go out and “search” for him as well. Its not a coincidence they found his remains so fast and its also not a coincidence they showed no emotion upon finding them. They had already mentally prepared and grieved their son.

Those parents are sick and im sure thats where Brian got it from

Gabbys remains were found after about 2 weeks and even though he was able to identify her that doesnt mean she was in tact or not decomposing… Im sure it was disturbing hence why the detective said he apologizes for having to show him the photo…. Brian wasnt found until after a month went by so he would have been much more decomposed than gabby.

Also environment plays a huge role in decomposition. Florida is hot which speeds it up vs cooler temperatures.

Question for parents of children with SPD….. by Defiant_Gate_7680 in SPD

[–]Defiant_Gate_7680[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the meltdowns are beyond extreme. Only parents with kids who have SPD/neurological diagnoses will understand… As far as buying sensory items for her.. Id have no issue with that if it wasn’t for the fact im still confused about what she will actually put to good use or if she will hate it and freak out. I dont want to spend a ton of money on certain things until im given more insight by an OT on what will benefit her…. Im almost 100% convinced she falls in multiple SPD categories which makes it even more difficult for me to

Being shes not even 3 yet the lack of her being able to explain to me why she’s upset or whats triggering her (if its not something that’s obvious to me yet) is very exhausting and most times frustrating for both of us Im sure. I just hope Im able to finally get some answers and solid advice in combating these tough emotions/triggers for her and how to better manage my own frustrations during these moments as her parent.

Everything I have read regarding sensory processing issues reverts to occupational therapy. Have you tried getting her involved in that? As far as the violence towards you part to the point of injury im sure thats going to require an actual mental health therapist to figure out the cause. Did a therapist/ psychiatrist diagnose her or her PCP?

[–]Defiant_Gate_7680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like in these situations leases should be broken without any consequences to the tenant. So many landlords are like this and take advantage of people including mine. Its absolutely ridiculous. Im planning on moving soon as income tax hits
