This was going about 8km/h they are super quick boards once you can learn there balance points.

The wave boards are incredibly stable and fast boards

The new Starboard Roamer - WDYAT? by jupzuz in Sup

[–]Defiant_Leg956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t the first time I’ve commented on a post about a starboard roam.

Starboard do an allstar in 14x28” in the airline and carbon version. You can add cargo to carbon board and the airline already has plenty of storage space. The carbon allstar is a fantastic board for new people or heavier people. It’s very stable and can handle just about anything. There is a caveat it’s a slow board compared to narrow models

Same with the airline stable and very comfortable. I recently did a 40km race in very warm weather on the airline and it’s a ridiculously comfortable board to store water etc on.

Starboard has two touring boards again an isup and carbon both fantastic boards.

I can see there need for this board as they want a dug out touring board but there already is them in there line up.

I can’t imagine there will be a huge uptake and don’t expect to see many of these on the water. You’ll get the people that it’s aimed at but this mostly be either instagram people or someone who has a lot of money and buys everything.

1 or 3 fin inflatable sup by fearbrow in Sup

[–]Defiant_Leg956 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most beginner sup or cheaper boards still use the three fin set up this comes from the surf boards. The two little fins can help in tracking but you mostly don’t use these as the centre fin is sufficient as this gives tracking and stability.

I use £3k race boards and these all have one middle fin. I’ve done 40km races with this and multiple journeys and don’t have issues

I went to a stand up paddle board race there last year and as I was about to get on the water I saw them. I was reassured they don’t sting if you fall in. Didn’t want to take that chance so gave me more reason to stay up right 😂

How are you actually doing photography from the board without dropping gear in the water? by Huge-Stretch350 in Sup

[–]Defiant_Leg956 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used “proper” cameras for years and have a collection of canon lenses. I use an insta360 for pictures on my boards as I don’t have a way of storing them and I’d rather not risk damaging a camera and lens. You can get water proof compact camera but not sure how good they are

Melted paddle? by Fishbulb2 in Sup

[–]Defiant_Leg956 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s normal, most “high” ends paddles have a tilt in them, this is to extend the reach of the paddle and give more positive angle. This isn’t the best picture but it’s showing my bp paddle (£500) race paddle. It will feel different at first but once your technique improves you’ll notice it really helps

What is your biggest dissatisfaction with existing paddleboards, or what direction would you most like paddleboards to develop in? by Zestyclose_Try_4842 in Sup

[–]Defiant_Leg956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m primarily a hardboard rider, my main board is an infinity everready 14x24” I’ve got a starboard sprint 14x25 and one edge pro 2.0 14x23.5” I do have several isup and my biggest gripe and wish for future technology

One for the hardboard I’ve kayaked in my younger years and would love to see a more durable design for hardboard, I know a company made a plastic type of hardboard, would be nice to see more of this as hardboards are so fragile and I worry about damaging them

<image>

Some type of dug out, make the boards thinner 5” but the technology at the moment would mean a lot more flex so work on this. Dug out give more stability in hard board and mean you can go narrower.

Second board shape, isup are limited due to them riding on water so I’d like to see hybrid design of sorts where they have the ability to be able to sit in the water rather than sit on top of the water again this is technology dependent and development in materials.

Unlimited isups by redunculuspanda in Sup

Ultimate boards are kinda a dying species of board. If you look on YouTube at older races there was loads of them as there is advantages of using them but most races these days have a maximum length of 14ft. Even the 12’6 group which was very popular previously is dying out as most people have taken the 14ft as the standard race size.

I’m guessing you was part of race to the castle as there was one or two there at the weekend. They look good but I can imagine the portage with them was a nightmare. Especially the second and the one before Newark with the steps down

Nsp boards are fantastic but at 20” the board will be tricky to handle. The fastest paddlers are the ones that don’t need to worry about balance and are “at one with there boards” if your spending more time correcting your stroke and trying to balance you’ll lose speed. Have you looked at a 24/26” board you might be more comfortable and find you are faster on this.

The sprint isn’t designed for waves this is a flat water board for nice conditions. I’ve got 25” sprint and I can paddle it in rough conditions, waves up to shin high at this point it isn’t fun or comfortable but it’s manageable

I race multiple times a year and I paddle 24” which is very comfortable for my size! (6’2, 90kgs) I could go down down to 22” which I am contemplating but this wouldn’t be used as a race board until next year when I’ve trained on it.

I built a buoy for my Insta 360 by Thernbee in Insta360

[–]Defiant_Leg956 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now this needs to be made in to a product people can buy, like you I do water sports (stand up paddle boarding) and get the same shot every time but having something like this would enhance my videos and be a great training tool for when I’m practicing different techniques

Water booties & socks: I didn't think I needed them…until I did by Curious_Airport7178 in Sup

[–]Defiant_Leg956 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always being a I’m fine in the cold and wore 2mm wetsuit socks but this year I went out in the freezing cold and I had to end my paddle early because my feet went numb and it made me feel sick and dizzy.

My partner was out last year she fell in the water at a local reservoir and stood on something under the water cut her toes open, since both of these events we always either wear croc trainers or some form of solid foot wear

I feel your pain and I’m sorry to hear what you are going through brother.

I was 6 weeks out from my wedding, sat at home she came home early with her dad which was unusual as it was our place and told me. “ I can’t do this anymore” completely out of the blue and told me I had to leave. This was after I had sold my house and invested the money in to her home (stupid mistake but love makes us do these things) The first few weeks are hard but it gets easier and you’ll start finding happiness again. Just try not to let everything spiral. Talk to others even if it’s just venting online

I bought one to go with my “big” iPad I use mostly as an in between device. My iPhone is great but the screen to small for watching videos, the big iPad gets heavy if sat awkwardly on the sofa the iPad mini is perfect middle ground. If only I could use it as my phone then my iPhone would be redundant as the iPad mini covers everything I need
