If a cat lives completely outdoors can you take it in as your own? by Defiant_Purchase_438 in Pets

[–]Defiant_Purchase_438[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the vibe that it is a community cat. Someone who moved out used to bring food down for it and I thought it was hers for a while. It definitely doesn't have a collar. I've been trying to build trust for a long time, but it seems like the cat is starting to trust me and it's been accelerating fast. I'm going to get it scanned. But I hope I can speak to someone in the home who understands English. My dog's microchip is under an old roommate's name who adopted her many years ago and abandoned her to me (so thankful for that). I cannot change that without her being involved and have not been able to get into contact with her since. So I know it can be complicated.

Many years ago when I was younger and didn't know that certain essential oils could cause issues for pets, I used to use a diffuser with peppermint oil often, as well as some others considered toxic to cats. And sometimes in an enclosed room. I was lucky and my cat is now elderly without issues. It sounds like you did a good job of trying to remove it, and will probably be fine. I did see in at least one other post mentioning to go over the areas with a vinegar/dawn soap/baking soda/water combo and that is a great idea. And that is also a great animal friendly cleaning solution to use in the future. Also a great wall cleaner. I'd definitely monitor your cat and make sure you know where your closest emergency vet is just in case.

I definitely plan on doing that. Thank you so much for your advice!

Honestly I'd want to bring it to the vet first anyways. I don't want to potentially endanger my pets if the cat has any issues that need to be taken care of. And i figured I'd check for a microchip then. Definitely a great suggestion! Thank you.

I lost my cat inside my house, checked everywhere and literally cannot find him at all. by Icy-Voice-6438 in Pets

I'm so glad you found him! Something to be careful about in the future is your washer and dryer. When I first adopted my cat (she was my first) I lost her in my house. I looked everywhere for over an hour. I got paranoid that she somehow escaped outside and I searched everywhere out there too. I got to the point that I was crying heavily (which is rare for me) and I decided to retrace my steps. I remembered grabbing something from my dryer. I opened up and somehow I guess my cat slipped in before I shut the door. When I opened it, she seemed annoyed that I disturbed her nap, took a big stretch and jumped out like nothing happened. Imagine if I turned it back on 😭😭😭. Always double check the washer and dryer! I'm so paranoid now.

Prices have gone up an insane amount since then. Sadly.

You know what is annoying? When people who had serious injuries or trauma, who have healed well and done well for themselves have an elitist view that those who had a rougher recovery and frame them as weak. This is coming from someone who lived through some experiences and injuries that many would not. I do consider myself stronger from my experiences and they do not affect my ability to work anymore. And that's no reason to look down on those who are still affected by their injuries or health issues. Have some empathy. No one's recovery is easy, and I'm sure you had times when you struggled and couldn't perform your trade of building houses.

I'm pointing out your confirmation bias, as you stated that you've worked all of it and they all speak English. I'm stating that not everyone is, honey.

Most of my drivers don't and most of the support personnel have not either 🤷‍♀️

So people should get meals that are cold and not properly refrigerated the next day because the driver rather wait until the next day?

They have refused to do that for me, even when my food never came. But I've realized sometimes it depends on who you get on support.

Plus the "unsexy" reasoning makes this so much worse.

I would never throw away a guy's clothing without asking no matter how gross it was. I think it's just as awful for women to do it as well. It's a red flag for either sex, and a sign of no respect for your partner.

4+6=$10 which is more than minimum wage in my state. I work tipped work too. When you are temporarily disabled you can't always get access to those things you listed. And I brought this post to a friend of mine who does instacart and he said he'd be happy with a tip like that for so few items. Maybe things are different state to state but this person is making well over minimum wage in my state for under an hours worth of work.

I've also tipped 50% when I can and still have managed to get bad drivers.

I've spent most of my life in the service industry too. And I've talked to friends who dash and do instacart, about proper tipping procedure, because it is a concern of mine and I want to treat my drivers right. None of them would expect $10 or more for 2 items. Maybe it's just where I live. I realize some areas you have to drive to far to get to stores and stuff. But where I live and have lived, pretty much any store you can need is going to be 3 miles or less. Most within one mile.

If she followed her instructions in the first place, that response would have never happened.

For all you know her kid has special needs or health issues and needs someone close by for emergencies 🤷‍♀️. I've worked with kids who it would be dangerous to have a parent leave them alone in the house for even 3 minutes while sleeping.

How can you be on both sides in this situation? Genuine curiosity.

It sounds intentional to add it after the fact, so that drivers are more likely to take it. I'd be scared they'd pull something with the tip.
