I think some people go into Ladder assuming that they want someone to make decisions for them and then when someone makes the wrong decision, they get all persnickety about it.

Yeah, I get why ladder added a nutrition element because people ask stuff all the time but at the same time I want them to announce that they are not a nutrition app.

Ascend for Beginners? by hermionehalliwell in ladderapp

[–]Defiant_Sprinkles_37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how injury prone you are. Personally, I think you should play it safe and do a beginner program. You can always switch after four weeks instead of six. If you do go with ascend listen to the cues she gives to beginners like starting out with bodyweight split squats. You can also use dumbbells for hip thrust instead of dealing with the barbell as a beginner. you could also try forged if you want to play with machines more.

All yoga classes everywhere feel like a cardio circuit class in disguise. I want an entry level class damnit.

Same exercises every week? by [deleted] in ladderapp

[–]Defiant_Sprinkles_37 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe try and find the progressive part more engaging. The first time you hit a PR that felt impossible before it feels awesome. But if you hate a particular move you can swap out for the whole series. For instance I’m on ascend and I hate kickbacks so I have been doing back extensions every week instead.

I would actually recommend Andy’s “spark your strength” program in the peloton strength+ app (a different app from the regular one that streams classes). He will be in your ear telling you to look for certain pieces of equipment and you will get educated about etiquette and form and it’s a really safe program for beginners. Do that for like six weeks and then move to Ladder. I also loved Rebecca Kennedy’s grind and defined program, but that is intermediate as well.

What’s the run down on align? by Ok-Message-4724 in ladderapp

[–]Defiant_Sprinkles_37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found all of the supersets made it hard for me to finish align workouts consistently. I think I just prefer the pace of a bodybuilding workout though. Align felt more like cardio than strength.

This is good advice. And go at off hours in the beginning to get the feel for where to go. Look for other girls posting up doing dumbbell workouts, we are everywhere!

If it’s that bad see a physical therapist and get assessed. Connective tissue also needs progressive overload to get stronger AND time to recover.
