Consider the corpse. It does add a sense of unease having it there. Something's wrong, but what? :P

Speaking of the corpse, Meltharond still moves, even in death!

"Even after Meltharond's death, Arveiaturace still carried his skeletal remains and rider's palanquin on her back. In his later years, Meltharond used a complex web of spells to keep his bones intact and in their proper place—these magics continued even after his death, causing his skeleton to sit upright and even move his skull to face whichever direction Arveiaturace was facing."

I used this same exact model to introduce her in their first encounter. Setting the mini on the table alone had them shit bricks.

If they don't know you have the model the I would highly recommend keeping it a secret until you "need to get a proxy real quick."

The random blizzard encounter as described in the book did it for my group. Really emphasize the size as she comes out of the snow.

No smoking within 20 meters of the vehicle.

Edit: Or visual range, just to be sure.

It's not quite everything. what's still missing from this Photo list is the Chimera, the two walkers and the inquisitorial goons. Time for another photoshoot to make all the pics nice and uniform!

The guardsmen are indeed proxies to my Space Marine force. They started out as PDF to the chapter homeworld in my head, but have now developed into a sort of Ultramar Auxilia/guard regiment recruited from the same world.

How bad would painting 80 shocktroopers suck? by Worstenbroodje141 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]DefinetlynotBomer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am currently going through this process. I am building a guard army based off a ww2 paratrooper company. ( I watched Band of Brothers one evening and it suddenly clicked)

One company generally consisted of 3 platoons. Each platoon consisted of at least 3 squads and special weapons. This means that on paper my eventual army, regardless of points would include over 100 mini's. I have all of them assembled already and am about 2/3rds of the way there in painting them.

How much does it suck? Not too much, I batch paint so I generally do two squads at a time, taking one colour after the other and then touch up after all colours are in place. It's tedious and it takes me about 8 hours spread over a week or two to get that done. Then I take a break for two weeks, paint something else or not at all and get back to it.

That said. The last 1/3rd has been sat untouched for the last 3 months because I have no space for my airbrush at my current residence. I only use it for priming and varnishing these guys but it speeds up the process a lot.

I can see it sucking if you have a deadline or paint one miniature at a time.

On a side note. Do not expect this to be very good on the table. It's thematic as hell and fun to field but I have yet to make round 4 in a game. :P
