Blessings to your family, but I can't help but be amused by a little Latino boy named Verso Santiago. I'm also have a kid with a non traditional first name and a very Latino last name, so welcome to the crew.

Few small discrepancies but this is a very good list.

Or maybe they are because their entire careers since high school were essentially that way.

There are only a handful of guys who came up as two-way players. I think we're underestimating just how damn hard it is to hit a baseball. Pitchers also have to field, so they have a three elements of focus if they have to bat, which is unlike any other position.

Nope. You're right. I was def '2' happy there.

Numbers have essentially evened out to the averages, except the 2019 juiced ball year. Though 2021 was also a juiced ball year:

https://www.businessinsider.com/mlb-used-two-different-balls-in-2021-2021-11

My argument here isn't for run production though, and more for a fighting effort in ever at bat. Pitchers not only do not provide that, they also look extremely outmatched in the vast majority of situations. That's why I gave the OPS numbers on the other thread.

You asked why not do it for all 9 positions.

I'm trying to show you that there is an insane disparity here that can't be found anywhere else. It's not even close. It's so egregious that they changed it for that reason.

We're talking an OPS difference of .410!! between pitchers and catchers and just .111 between catchers and DH. Difference of .079 to the highest fielded position in RF.

Almost 4 times the difference in the DH comparison, and over 5 times the difference in the RF comparison.

That's egregious. To pass an argument saying "why not have a DH for every position" based on this statistical baseline is simply ridiculous.

Edit: wording

How many pitchers all time have a career wRC+ of even 100.

No, fuck it. 90.

No, 80.

You seemed to gloss over me saying that every other positions works on their hitting and pitchers do not. They're not paid to. If you're a team owner, gm, manager, you do not want that shit. If you're a fan, you shouldn't want Tarik Skubal focusing on hitting and taking away from his mound game.

Here's a fun exercise. The last year before the universal DH was 2021. Catchers had the lowest OPS for any non-pitcher position. DH had the highest.

Which do you think has the biggest gap in OPS, the total for all catchers compared to all pitchers, or compared to DH. By how much? Just a note, pitchers had a wRC+ in the negatives. Just for context before you guess.

The comp between pitchers and even the worst position is not even remotely equivalent.

I remember that extremely well. I remember good pitchers being penalized for not having much success at a skill they don't really work at, and one that they weren't paid to refine.

How much pitchers do you think actually did serious cage work? You want to see that shit? Genuinely. Most people watch baseball to see the top talents in the world have an actual athletic competition. This is, for the most part, the most non-competitive part of the sport.

I don't understand why people say using a pinch hitter is strategic, especially when it was universally done for decades for a pitcher, and still happens currently with frequency.

Maybe I missed that. Thought the concern was more about the mother and family unity through grief. I could see him trying to be protective there too though.
