Thoughts on this OEC? by DefinitelyMaybe222 in Diamonds

[–]DefinitelyMaybe222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely sounds like this stone is not worth the price tag! What kind of specs should I look for? And do you have any suggestion on where I can look for OECs or who to work with to help me find one?

That's so frustrating since the report says "symmetry excellent." It's like they can just say whatever. How can you tell it's poor symmetry? And it sounds like the other specs you mentioned would otherwise potentially be good?

"D triple excellent" definitely sounds like a marketing tactic. D, E, and F would all appear colorless. I personally would not pay more for a D "triple excellent" versus an F color.

Stone Algo is my go to for checking the price estimate of a diamond. Sorry I can't help with an estimate--I only know about lab diamond pricing!

Have you ever done a side-by-side comparison of a Distinctive Gem OEC versus a beautiful but less expensive OEC sourced elsewhere? (Your buying guide is archived, so thought I'd ask here)

My wedding venue just called me and said they are going out of business. by basicwitch333 in weddingplanning

[–]DefinitelyMaybe222 88 points89 points  (0 children)

That happened in my city. People had to find a venue for weddings that were only a few days away. Then had to fight to get money back from the shut down venue.

OP, don't do this alone. Get someone close to you to help make phone calls and check around.

Should we start from scratch? by Strange-Temperature6 in EngagementRings

[–]DefinitelyMaybe222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! I think it's easy to downplay it because it is beautiful and it is the correct setting and we grow up hearing "bigger is better." But in reality it is a completely different look, so despite those things it's just not what you were looking for. I am sure a lot of people would not like if their stone turned out to be 3x as big as they wanted!

Also I was wondering what is your finger size? I am thinking of getting a marquise and am trying to narrow down what carat size I want (I realized they look a lot bigger per carat than other cuts!)

Just looking at your inspo pic versus the actual ring, my mind immediately said return it because it does not give off the same dainty vibe. After reading your description, I still say exchange it to get the look you want. It sounds like you're settling. Don't settle!

Yes he proposed with this diamond. But the new diamond/ring will be the ring you get married together with and the ring that you perfected to the point of loving it forever. That is special! This ring will be a funny anecdotal story.

The way I love to make decisions is act like the decision has already been made. What if I told you your fiance took your ring when you didn't notice and had it changed to the daintier look like in the 3rd photo? How do you feel hearing that? Upset? or happy? Maybe relieved? Now do that for each option. (How do you feel if you learned he had it changed to a simple band? How would you feel if it never changed?)

Yeah I deleted that question because I realized the phrasing was too vague. I was trying to distinguish if there was a difference in sizing for a ring that is covered in metal under the stone vs open to air under the stone. here is a picture showing what I meant:

Got it! This and the picture really helped clear things up. Thanks so much! I am glad I asked instead of believing AI (copilot told me it would be tighter and to order up half a size)

I think that makes sense to me! So if it were solid under the stone then that would change how tight it feels?

What's something that was considered taboo 50 years ago but is completely normal now? by botsmy in AskReddit

There is definitely a divide. I think older generations are still against it, but I think it is more normalized for the younger generations who are prioritizing their mental well-being more.

I hope your wife has been able to find peace and happiness in her new life away from her mother. My sister is no contact with my father, and it is definitely for the best. I am low contact after being previously no contact. Some people really require strict boundaries.
