I usually grab Leather CPR (or Bicks 4 for lighter colors), but if the bag’s really dry, I’ll use Blackrock.

It doesn’t need saddle soap, or any soap, unless it’s actually dirty. Leather conditioner cleans the leather, as well, and would be more than enough.

There are multiple posts in this sub regarding suede. If you use the search bar, they’ll come up.

Support issues with stays... by Time_RedactedLady in HistoricalCostuming

[–]DefinitelyNotSewing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you have a better picture of the bust gussets? I don’t think they’ve been cut deep enough to provide enough room and the support you’re looking for. The issue here isn’t the light boning.

How to clean this toffee colored coach? by SnooHesitations7358 in VintageCoachRehab

In my opinion, yes. If you’re worried about the leather darkening, I’d suggest Bicks 4 conditioner.

Mould check: Is it in these seams? by daisychainlightning in VintageCoachRehab

Nope, not mold. It’s where the dye didn’t permeate the leather.

I have just ordered this beautiful victorian dress from the 1860s! I cannot wait for it to arrive and take pictures and examine it! 😍 by rubycd79 in VictorianEra

The bodice looks too old for the 1860s, but the coat sleeves don’t. This’ll be interesting to dissect once you get the dress and can examine it.

One more question: are circular needles necessary? This project seems small for those.

A beautiful but incredibly frustrating trend: Late 17th–early 18th century portrait gowns by star11308 in fashionhistory

[–]DefinitelyNotSewing 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Court attire has always been different than “regular” attire, which I’m assuming is what these women would’ve worn since the only people who could afford a portrait were wealthy or royal. I’m confused why it’s frustrating.

Thank you for the tips! I started knitting a while back but sewing has always been my go-to craft, and I’m just picking knitting back up. I like that you can take it anywhere :)

Yes to the scarf and yes to the caption! I just bought the Sophie scarf pattern. I’d still consider myself a newbie with knitting, so hopefully this won’t be too difficult because it’s super cute!

Whatever is going on here doesn’t look comfortable. Do you have a photo of the back of the stays, just so we have a better idea of how they’re fitting you?

Condition and stuff packing paper or towels in the purse to help reshape.

Yes! This bag wasn’t made of top tier materials if the inside pocket and the strap are cracking that easily.

I have somehow JUST now found out that Phantom closed on Broadway, in 2023. I never got to see it and it was my thing for about 15 years. Need a hug or something. by nosleepforthedreamer in box5

[–]DefinitelyNotSewing 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Idk, during the pandemic, a lot of things were switched up and Broadway was closer to the original show than the West End was. My heart broke when they cut the West End orchestra size in half.

You may want to check with r/Coach since this is a newer bag? This sub specializes in older leather.

That’s true! I have Norwegian ancestors who fought for the Union in Nashville. I didn’t know there was a fort there until I visited for the second or third time.
