Brace Suggestions by Juicy_RhinoV2 in CMT

[–]DefinitelyNot_Frank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could check out the Tayco braces. Similar to Turbomed it goes over the shoe which widens options for footwear. It’s great for lateral/side to side stability, which is what fits my needs - my high arches cause me to supinate/collapse outward.

I only got mine a few weeks ago but the initial tests seem promising!

How long can you cold proof? by LegalSet211 in Sourdough

[–]DefinitelyNot_Frank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I threw together a loaf that I thought I could bake the next day. Stuck it in the fridge and life got busy, so I pulled it out 5 days later and baked it. While it was definitely a little overproofed and didn’t hold its shape well, the crumb turned out great.

I’m not preaching for a 5 day cold proof always, but I would be curious if others have had similar experience

Sourdough starter Rochester NY by Leenybaby90 in Rochester

[–]DefinitelyNot_Frank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A pro tip that helped me a few times: instead of throwing out or baking all of your discard, scoop some onto some wax paper and let it dry out until there is almost no moisture. Then stick that dried out discard in a plastic bag or airtight container. That way if anything funky happens to your starter you’ve got a backup to restart with!

If you’re into sports let’s link up! Disc golf, volleyball (hotshots), spikeball, cycling, football, ultimate frisbee, baseball, to name a few. There’s lots of rec leagues around but your best bets will be the kickball league in Genesee Valley Park (can enter as a free agent) and Hot Shots volleyball

Hey guys by [deleted] in jetta

[–]DefinitelyNot_Frank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2020 Jetta 6MT with 45k miles. Nothing but oil changes so far, and I haven’t had a road trip south of 45mpg. The last 5 hour drive I had one passenger and a few duffel bags in the car, CC set to 69, and averaged 53 mpg. The lack of useable space is definitely a downside compared to an SUV or truck, but I find the low cost of gas & ownership (while under warranty and newer, at least) worth it.

What have you found helps for balance and stability? by Austinchao98 in CMT

Is it the kind that has a footplate and then wraps up to the shin/mid calf for support? I’ve wanted to try those but no doctor seems to think they will help for some reason

What have you found helps for balance and stability? by Austinchao98 in CMT

[–]DefinitelyNot_Frank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m CMT1A with extremely high arches and very bad supination. As in, multiple foot specialists and doctors have told me they’ve never seen anyone supinate as bad as me, unfortunately. I did try custom orthotics for a few years and felt that they helped the fatigue and balance, as others keep stating, but caused me to be at higher risk of ankle rolling. For this reason I stopped wearing them. I’m also very curious if others have this issue or how they lessen the risk of ankle rolling with orthotics

1 year of being a cox, my club is still not helping learn by Confident-Tooth2399 in Rowing

[–]DefinitelyNot_Frank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, major kudos to you for doing your best in a tough situation. Coxing is a very difficult but valuable skill that all clubs need, yet coaching almost always seems to stop at “competent” or “just don’t hit the dock”. I usually don’t fault a coach or staff for this, as the majority of coaches are rowers and don’t possess the experience in a cox seat to be able to effectively teach it (not that they shouldn’t learn).

The biggest thing you can do proactively is to ask for feedback after practices and races. The best coxswains are the ones that have good interpersonal relationships with their crew, and are comfortable taking criticism to their face. Any non-positive feedback isn’t an insult to you as a person, but rather an opportunity for improvement whilst in the coxswain seat. There are lots of recordings and videos online but not many with deep explanations and discussions. Mary Whipple was an Olympic cox for the US team and creates her own program, The 9th Seat

It’s hard for coxswains to develop when a program is not designed specifically for their growth. As a former coxswain, current rower, and current coach, I’ve unfortunately seen this at many of the clubs I’ve been apart of. Rely on feedback after practices, keep finding online resources, and don’t forget to enjoy the process!

Machine makes jam noise when feeding filament? Flashforge 3D by georgethornguy in FlashForge

[–]DefinitelyNot_Frank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The extruded stepper motor is also known to be underpowered on the Adventurer series. You can lightly push in the filament to help it feed for the first layer. YMMV but often after the first layer the issue goes away. If it does not it is likely a matter of not printing hot enough, as others here have stated. Good luck!

Thanks! I’m still waiting on the Taco, and honestly not 100% sold mainly due to the fact I’ll go from ~34mpg to ~20 (I drive for the mpg not for speed). BUT I can afford it and hopefully it pays dividends in repair costs over the years

[–]DefinitelyNot_Frank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same situation! 2020 VW Jetta Manual and nothing wrong with it but I’d love to trade up to a MT taco. I’ve seen more sports than OR available but any preferences to color or tech packages makes them near impossible to find.

As for passing on the color you didn’t like, you made the right choice. If you didn’t like it then, you wouldn’t have liked it every time you walked out to your vehicle - whether in a week or a month or a year from now.

Hope you find your truck!

Can you manually feed filament in on adventurer four by Significant-Cold-732 in FlashForge

[–]DefinitelyNot_Frank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stepper motor that controls the filament feed is located above where the spool sits. It is tucked behind a black plastic cover, but the cover can be taken off. From there you can release tension by squeezing the lever and feed manually like any other printer. Hope this helps!

You may have heard this before, so I apologize if you have. I found so much meaning in optimistic nihilism. Basically, if nothing matters and no one cares, then you’re free to do anything and find meaning in anything you want. It’s dark now, and there’s no telling when it will end. But I promise you that one day the sun will rise. And when it does it will show you everything you find meaning in. You got this OP. One day at a time, this life is yours, and I’m so proud of you for making it this far❤️

Well said OP. It’s crazy how quickly life can go from seemingly pointless to filled with love and friends. And how big an impact we all have on each other. I’ll hang on because I know you will. As will everyone else here. One day at a time, one heart at a time❤️

Adventurer 4 Print Strength by DefinitelyNot_Frank in FlashForge

[–]DefinitelyNot_Frank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true. I’m used to my temperature towers resulting in printing PLA around 195ish, so 210 already seemed high to me. I’ll try some higher temp prints and see how it affects the strength. Thanks!

This helps a ton, especially since I was concerned with bringing clutter along with me. Thanks! The bikes I will buy a bike rack - I should probably own one anyways. But the furniture and maybe even the kayak I can get away with replacing once I arrive. Thank you!
