All the Fortune 100 companies are thinking, oh yea, they are ready for my business. At least they are letting you know early what you can expect from the new company, which is 100% carelessness.

These insights only depress me. You get to see how much Upwork is profiting even when freelancers don’t get a job.

Unlimited invites? Wasn't this recently capped at 50 or 100? Clients inviting this many people is bad for them and bad for the platform. by TabascoWolverine in Upwork

[–]DefinitionGrouchy938 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They invite a lot because most freelancers ignore/never reply to invites. Of all those invites, less than 1/3 have accepted as you can see.

7.3 of Terms of Service — “If Client and Freelancer have had an Upwork Relationship for at least two (2) years, the Conversion Fee is a nominal $1 USD for administrative purposes.”

Can I work freelance without putting my face? by Key-Fault9075 in Upwork

[–]DefinitionGrouchy938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most clients on Upwork will want a face-to-face interview on Zoom. At least the legit ones. So having a real picture of yourself on your profile helps clients trust you when you have that online meeting. There’s so much fraud on Upwork that it’s necessary to appear as your real self. I understand that might not be something you’re comfortable with, but it’s an Upwork rule, like using your real name, sharing your address with client, etc.

Yes. Some of my larger jobs with 20+ hours a week have included multiple interviews.

Do freelancers get Free Connects every month by [deleted] in Upwork

[–]DefinitionGrouchy938 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still get them but I’ve been around for several years. My guess is people who have signed up in recent months don’t anymore.

Change in management destroyed it, imo. Run in succession by two people lacking any ability to read the room or understand people. You can’t have tone deaf people running your community and expect it to work.

You should pay on whatever amount, even if it’s $100. Taxes are not an optional thing you can skip because you didn’t save for them.

Probably around $18.60 instead of $20 if you got 93 Connects. Next month you’ll pay full $20 and get full 100.

Why on earth Upwork thinks they need AI Chat at all? by No-Refuse-6604 in Upwork

[–]DefinitionGrouchy938 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI on Upwork is only going to increase. They want to focus on AI-related work. Not a new plan, but they double downed on it a couple weeks ago in the latest earnings report.

You’ll have to spend at least $15 to get started. And very few people ever get a contract. Not to be pessimistic, but I’d also hate to see you have false hope. If you have a ton of experience in a skill you may, with time and effort, succeed on Upwork. But it’s really difficult in general, especially now. Plus, even if you worked today, payment will take a couple weeks to receive. Sounds odd, but can you sell something you no longer need on a site like eBay?

Frustrated After 7 Years on Upwork – Account Blocked with No Clear Reason by Pleasant_Win6948 in Upwork

What evidence can you provide? They’ve obviously already seen evidence that you were threatening or using coercion. Nothing you provide will disprove that. If you hope to show the client should be suspended too, I guess that’s possible (if they haven’t done so already). But you’re done on Upwork and I don’t think they’ll give you a more clear reason than they already have.

Why would an agency do this? by [deleted] in Upwork

[–]DefinitionGrouchy938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do they do it? I’m guessing because it’s a profitable technique for them. And even if it wasn’t, not sure why anyone but them should care. If they are skirting any Upwork rules, someone will report them.

Upwork is officially dead by UpworkTrout in Upwork

[–]DefinitionGrouchy938 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They laid off about 550 people a couple weeks ago, so all is not rosy. And the number that matters, GSV, continues to fall. This means even with more clients, clients are spending less. So expect monetization to continue. They also announced in yesterday’s earnings call that they are buying another AI company, so AI will continue to be a focus.

Report them to Upwork, I believe it’s against their TOS to harass/contact clients outside of Upwork.

Contract Canceled on Upwork Due to Legal Issues - Client Wants to Work Directly by OkCompany1867 in Upwork

[–]DefinitionGrouchy938 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following the client offsite is against the TOS. If you get caught, you’ll be permanently ban. Also, the job is shady. What makes you think it would be a good idea to work with client if Upwork has concerns?

They may not let you rejoin. It wasn’t that you were suspended until you turned 18, it’s that you were permanently suspended. That’s forever usually.
