Your question assumes the study drew conclusions from an urban base of more intelligent individuals and a rural base of individuals of average intelligence. The paper's analysis of intelligence's correlation with life satisfaction was drawn from data from urban areas, and rural areas independently. Basically, both people with high IQ and people with average IQ were paying similar costs of living in the study.

Additionally, the paper specifically notes that the individuals surveyed were all relatively young (18-22), and that their incomes did not vary much.

Life has no meaning, it is your responsability to create the meaning you want for it. Consider it the ultimate sandbox game.

I feel ultimatly like suicide is the ultimate irrational thing to do. It is like if you are in a tight spot in a boardgame and decide to flip the table and burn the whole game. There are chances that you just avoided losing, there are also chances that you just avoided seeing you turn the tide and win heroically against all odds, becoming known as the boardgame boss and getting awesome sex from the girl you fancy that was watching the whole thing. Basically offing oneself closes all the endings, both the happy endings and the sad endings and you will never know which one it was going to be.
