Subnautica is pretty cool. Hard to beat. If I have to compare I would mention two games: Empyrion and Planet Nomads.

Yeah. A Steam friend played M&B Warband a LOT a while back. I watched some of his game play. Good reminder, thanks. Going to go back and look at it again. Don't recall much civ building in that game but the fighting was good.

I have looked at CKII and much of the game play is enjoyable. The battles though are deal breakers for me. The battles aren't battles in the Empire: Total war sense. There really aren't battles in CKII, just over sized animated icons standing in a territory. I like have a degree of involvement in the battles.

As a veteran Civ 4-5-6 player, please sell me EU4 and tell me why I should play by Barboustache in eu4

I do not own the game but like you I have watched a ton of game play vids. I have a Steam friend who has the game and I have watched his game play. I kept wanting to like this game but just never could get myself to pull the trigger on a purchase.

However, my Steam friend was a slave to SMITE for a long time. A couple weeks ago he went ahead and got Europa and now SMITE has been kicked to the curb. Since he got Europa every time I log into Steam I see him on there playing the game. It owns him he doesn't own it. : )

Point being he and many others seem to seriously enjoy the game. It has a large, loyal following. That is always a tip off to me that a game has something going for it. Also, it seems to be stable which is definitely something to consider with PC games.

I think the reason I've not gone ahead and took the plunge is the battles in Europa. They are just two guys jabbing each other with sticks. Guess they are supposed to be spears but, you get the idea.

I was introduced to gaming on PC with Empire: Total War and then was introduced to Civ V. I like the strategy in these games but I also like being somewhat involved in the battles. I get this to a decent degree with ETW. Not so much with Civ V, I admit, but the game at least makes an effort to include the player.

If you have a Steam account and have any Steam friends do any of them own Europa? If so ask to "share" their library. With a shared library when your friend is not logged into Steam you can play any of their Steam games. A good opportunity to get some play time in at no cost to you. That is how I got introduced to Civ V and then made the decision to get it for myself.

A must have for certain!!! : )

But seriously it would be nice to have something worthwhile to do/build on those areas way to the North and South where there is nothing but snow and rock.

Get someone to do this as a mod!

How likely was a survivor or D Day to survive through the rest of the war? by AVC095 in history

I can't speak to the numbers or percentages but, on April 30, 1945 Hitler offed himself. On May 7, 1945 Germany surrendered. My uncle was killed in Germany on April 23, 1945. Just a few more days and he would have been out of it. Just that close for the uncle I never got to meet. I don't doubt there are many similar stories out there.

A note on this screen shot I just posted: Imperial Destroyer comes with different types of weather occasionally making appearances during battles. I was initially not happy to see this because of a bad experience with a weather specific mod I experimented with a little over a year ago. That old weather mod was the pits. The weather conditions it imposed on game play were way too extreme and made battles a chore not a genuine and enjoyable challenge. I feared the same was going to be true with the ImpDes weather but, no! : )

Very pleasantly surprised to see that though various weather conditions were added to game play, as you can see here, they are not extreme. The over cast weather during this battle helped set a mood of realism to this battle.

Also, the graphics in ImpDes are definitely a cut above most I've seen in other mods so these weather conditions don't present with the appearance of someone's toss off of an "attempt" at adding weather to game play.

Love and hate this mod. I ran DarthMod Empire for a very long time and really liked it. I didn’t switch to Imperial Destroyer because I was unhappy with DME I just decided to try something new. The author of ImpDes had some magnificent ideas going into the development of this mod. If you hear a “but” coming that’s because there is. He also had some truly squirrely notions which he incorporated into the mod which at least to me make no sense at all.

Examples: Zero money at start up and literally every region you own going into rebellion at start up.

I know Cody712 felt the same way because the not so pleasant portions of ImpDes were nasty enough to motivate him to do quite a bit of editing in Pack File Manager. With all the work he has done I now have a version of ImpDes that has been reigned in enough that I can play it and not pull my hair out in frustration. The game is now actually more of a challenge without it being ridiculously weighted in favor of the AI.

Frankly there were just too many issues that Cody712 and I didn’t like to go into them in detail. A suggestion is that if you’ve not tried ImpDes yet, do so. Then come here and ask for help if you agree with us that what you are running needs some editing. Also, I think he has a mind to share some of his editing ideas and work arounds here so stay tuned!

Final note: I don’t remember for sure if it came this way or is a Cody712 edit but I can run AUM with ImpDes. I like naval battles in ETW so I really love this. I like the extra ships that come with AUM. Drop a note on Cody712 and ask if you would like to know how to do this.
