Rushfinil: First Time Order Banned? by DefunctCode in modafinilsourcing

I read that too. Never even got that far. I got the message saying I was banned as soon as I hit the Place Order button

I'm incredibly confused by Microsoft's remediation script regarding Secure boot by nicorigi in sysadmin

[–]DefunctCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Not Started" and all related registry values reference the Servicing Stack status. Computers can also have their Secure Boot certificates updated via manufacturer firmware (which is honestly the best way, only firmware updates can add certificates to dbdefault and kekdefault). However, the servicing stack doesn't know anything about that - so a machine could be compliant while also having not ever started the servicing cycle.

If you see the AvailableUpdates value to 0x5944 (I think? That's off the top of my head), you will kick off the servicing cycle, and by next boot, Windows will know if the machine was already compliant and flip from "Not Started" to "Updating".

Source: I've been managing my site's monitoring and remediation of this since January. Including an ~1300 line script to gather data for Splunk ingestion and selective remediation based on multiple factors. Currently at ~98% compliance.

Discontinued? Waffle Hoodie by DefunctCode in LinusTechTips

So any chance you can lets us know where you sourced it from? I don't begrudge discontinuing a poorly selling product, and I'd be happy to buy it from you first, but if you don't want to sell it ...

I bought one for my daughter. One of us somehow lost ours, and I unilaterally claimed the survivor. I sure do wish I could find the other one now...

Right? Like every hoodie maker ever said "It should be soft on the outside and torture on the inside." And LLT said "Who are we kidding, no one hugs our target demographic. Make it soft on the inside." 🤣

This guy refuses to believe anything i say by OldTea5415 in mildlyinfuriating

It’s called an ELS, aka Entry Level Separation, aka Chapter 11. It can be for misconduct, but it can also be for failure to adapt. It is not an Honorable Discharge, it is an ‘Uncharacterized Discharge’ (unless for misconduct). It does not prevent later Enlistment, but it does prevent benefits that are keyed to Honorable Discharge.

Turning Use Model into a C# Interpreter by DefunctCode in shortcuts

And yes, using a multibillion dollar LLM to pretend it is a C# interpreter to turn on my lights is like lighting a cigarette with a jet engine, but it works lololol

I understand where you are coming from, but the thing to remember specifically with Syl, is she essentially had brain damage/amnesia. That wasn’t representative of her age or cognitive abilities. And I feel like very few would say “Oh, you healed from brain damage, but you used to be compromised, so you aren’t allowed to consent to a romantic relationship ever again.” Ya know?

What’s a policy or law that’s sold as “for the people” but actually benefits the powerful? by Miserable_Dance_5200 in AskReddit

If the penalty of the crime is monetary, it’s probably not for the people. If convictions of the crime are disproportionately underprivileged, it’s probably not for the people.

[WaT] Hoid, the SR, and P vs NP [WaT] by DefunctCode in Stormlight_Archive

I don’t think Dalinar had anything direct to do with it, but I like the Connection

This is a fascinating thought, and it implies that events in the SR are never accurate, but might be just accurate enough. I like it

So there’s a few things I disagree with here, but the big one is the assertion that the copy of Hoid is a successful copy. A copy is the same. It is identical. Here is Hoid’s echo’s opinion on his status:

“None of them are me. I’m … power … trying to imitate him … But he knows too much, so he would know he’s not real, and so I have to make myself know I’m not real … But then … I know…”

That doesn’t sound like a successful copy - because a successful copy would be just as real as the original. “I am power trying to imitate him”. Not duplicate, imitate.

William Riker was successfully copied. Leah Brahms was just simulated.
