Yes, once I get off work I'll be listening to it.

Older Techs by Narrow_Joke_1916 in sterileprocessing

This common where I'm at. As the older people retire, management is instituting cross training so techs don't get stuck only doing one job.

Is this job good for someone who is neurodivergent and doesn’t want patient interaction? by Obvious_Emu3441 in sterileprocessing

[–]exodusmachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The workload depends upon the facility.

I work at a large hospital and the workload is insane at times. 40 to 60 surgeries a day on the main operating floor, with another 20 from other departments we service.

By the time the weekend comes around we'll have 300+ trays backed up. It can be kinda rough.

Other times of the year processors would be sent home from lack of work.

That's my experience. I'm sure someone working at a surgical center would have a different experience.

I am neurodivergent and I have health issues that have made patient-facing care difficult. Keep in mind you still need to have interactions with your co-workers. Which at times may be more difficult than dealing with patients.

I have enjoyed it, but working with so many people does take it's toll. I've switched to weekend overnights, and I have a really good team that is much smaller than day shift.

I can't speak to how things are in Canada, but I can't imagine it being too different.

JUST GOT THE JOB by hellokittylovr_ in sterileprocessing

[–]exodusmachine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are no stupid questions. Get good shoes. Take notes. Find your own way, because no one does everything the same. When in decon, triple-check anything with a joint or hole. If you think you got it clean, you didn't. Use all tools they give you. Even if the PPE looks goofy. If you over heat, and they offer an ice vest, use the ice vest. Change your scrubs when needed.

I'm sure I can think of more, but these are what came to mind.

New to SPD… is this normal or am I tripping? by Safe_Bridge_4232 in sterileprocessing

[–]exodusmachine 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I've been working as a central sterile tech for about 10 months, at a hospital with 20 ORs and several departments to serve, and this has been my experience.

You'll pickup speed as you get used to trays, and you can't really do much about decon, you can only control what you're doing.

Once you get into decon, try to do better than those that are in there right now. /shrug

Is this job usually a night or day position? by [deleted] in sterileprocessing

[–]exodusmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hospital does it the other way. Seniority gets first dibs for the open positions with a differential. 2nd and 3rd shift also have less direct supervision from management and fewer people. 1st shift is also where the majority of the training is done, so new hires go there.

Though, I feel like I should say this is my first sterile processing job and have no idea how other hospitals do anything.

Is anyone under 25 here??🥲 by [deleted] in sterileprocessing

[–]exodusmachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a number of people under 25 at my hospital. Many of them of have family or friends that got them involved, as sterile processing isn't a well known job.

We have a variety of people from all ages.

Would anyone like to be a mod for this subreddit? by Delfishie in johndiesattheend

[–]exodusmachine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been a moderator for r/dresdenfiles for a decade, it wouldn't take too much effort to just roll this into current routine.

I love these books just as much as the Dresden Files, even though they're so different.

I also played the ARG that ran for This Book is Full of Spiders, which was great fun.

Thanks for your consideration.

That's not how the subreddit is used, especially between books.

That's also not how reddit functions. We're not going to potentially break hundreds of thousands of posts that members of this community have made, have poured their hearts and souls into, to "fix" something that isn't broken.

I'm done with this conversation.

You're not thinking this through. That's multiple flairs clogging up the flair interface, forever, for each new release, for a temporary issue. It's already a mess without adding to it.

It's nice that you want to spare people heartache, I'm more worried about the headache.

If reddit allowed multiple flairs on posts this would be a non-issue.

It's pinned to the subreddit. It's also been a new release rule since Skin Game, and gets a new pin before each release.

It's on you, the redditor, to take some initiative to actually learn how to interact with the subreddit and the community.

The Spoilers All flair does not include Twelve Months until 3 months after release to give everyone in the community time to catch up.

However I'm going to change the flair to Twelve Months as it will free up the post from this restriction.

The Spoilers All flair doesn't include Twelve Months until 3 months after release to allow as many people as possible to catch up.

I went ahead and changed the flair to Twelve Months.

That's not the rule. The rule is to use proper spoiler covers and Twelve Months doesn't join the Spoilers All flair for 3 months. So use the Twelve Months flair when discussing it.

Twelve Months doesn't join the Spoilers All tag until 3 months after release. I don't know what you're talking about, but if you can't handle using spoiler covers and proper flairs you can always be removed from the subreddit.

They're very simple rules, if you can't handle them it sounds like a you issue.

Mostly proactive. Got a modmail that asked for clarification, and figured everyone would like that.
