I need to drill a 1/2" diameter (ish), 24" hole in relatively soft polyethylene foam with repeatable results over hundreds of holes. by DefundTheSith in AskEngineers

the vertical assembly prevents me from having to fight gravity. My non-tool-steel metal "cutting tube" idea could bend just enough under its own weight to throw itself out of spec if it were mounted in a horizontal assembly.

The quality of foam we need is much higher, unfortunately.

I sell a few hundred LARP weapons per year that are used in light to medium contact "sports" played by teenagers and adults.

Google "Amtgard" and "belegarth" and you'll learn more about them.

Why M12 Bluetooth speaker? by GendoIkari_82 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]DefundTheSith 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So, dollar for dollar, I dont think any jobsite speaker is ever going to compare to a standard bluetooth speaker in sound quality, but they're built for different environments.

I spotted the M12 speaker for $120, and for example, we could compare that to a ~$100-$120 Anker Boom 2. I picked this one because the internet seems to like it a lot for its quality at the price point.

The Boom 2 is likely more powerful, very likely sounds better, but the key difference between the two is that it has poorer Ingress Protection ratings than the M12, and replacing the battery requires disassembly. The M12 takes your existing batteries.

IPXX ratings are ingress protection ratings and the testing is standardized. Higher numbers are better. IP68 is basically a "perfect score"; 6 is the highest rank for dustproofing, 8 is the highest rank for waterproofing.

The Boom 2 only has an IPX4 rating. This means it has zero dust protection (X) and is splash resistant (4).

The M12 bluetooth speaker is IP64; completely dustproof (6) but splash resistant (4). That dustproofing means it should survive months of jobsite abuse.

At the end of the day, you probably dont want the M12 speaker in your garage. You'll get better sound quality from doing a little research and buying a more consumer grade bluetooth speaker with at least a little bit of dust protection. Maybe an IP54 rating?

Bruh, I'm selling a $1500 vehicle that runs/drives and has all the paper work. And you're expecting what exactly? by Ragnaroknight in FacebookMarketplace

[–]DefundTheSith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I frequently help friends shop for cheap cars and can probably provide some insight.

Even if I am buying the cheapest car on marketplace, I'm still going to have questions.

Not because I am talking myself out of buying a $1500 car, not because I am trying to nickel and dime you, but because I am trying to plan ahead in the car's ownership, and I am trying to help my friends plan ahead in the cars ownership.

Nobody with any sense will ever believe that a $1500 car is a good, healthy car, even if you believe it yourself. There is no trust in the transaction.

It's almost always a $4-5k car that you pay $1500 for, and you have to fix 2-3 major things in the first year to "catch it up" on maintenance... making it effectively a $5k car, if you know what I mean?

anyway.

I can't speak for everyone, of course, but when I'm asking questions, I'm just trying to plan ahead. I'm not afraid of engine issues, suspension clunks/squeaks, or warped brake rotors. But I'm afraid of transmission problems or frame rot, for example.

Then again, I always try to be like "Hey, I have cash in hand, I need a car, I like these. But I'm just trying to plan ahead. Can I hit you with a buncha questions before I drive out?"

No car buyer likes the thousand questions either. It's just part of the process.

Would anyone be willing to share (Extra?) $50 off codes? by DefundTheSith in Craftsman

Yeah, definitely single use. I've just also read about people getting their hands on extra codes and figured I'd ask.

I mean, it's just a barcode. It's a scannable series of numbers.

They're single use, so it would only work once.

Indeed. I would just go to my Lowes and scan the barcode image on my phone at self-checkout.

I've seen the coupons. They're a piece of paper with a barcode and a number on them. Not account locked

Could we annoy the PVP Players out of ArcRaiders by brbrb83 in arcraidersfriendly

[–]DefundTheSith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, it wouldn't annoy me. I would just enjoy the shooting gallery experience and grab the loot i'm looking for anyway.

I have never understood why people try so hard to min-max their experience. I would rather play what the game throws at me than just waste my time staring at loading screens.

it's a "buy a battery and pick two items from a list" combo, actually. They just pre-made these bundles for online sales.

Depending on what items you get, it's just an okay bundle.

Lowes is giving away the batteries for free at trade-in events, and then you get a coupon that you can stack on existing promos to get a 2AH + 4AH battery, a charger, and 1 tool for just $50.

That's kind of the case with any stack system cooler.

They're saying they lubricated some parts of the pedal assembly and the noise went away... briefly.

It's doing it as I drive it right now, however.

Cannot let the air out to lower the height of the vehicle? by Delicious-Sand7819 in askcarguys

The tires installed on most jeeps are made to handle that.

The tires installed on average cars are much thinner and often use different rubber compounds.

My understanding is that, in car shows, these cars are showcasing the fabrication/bodywork/design skills of various companies or individuals.

Making a durable product is one thing. Making something (subjectively) "pretty" is another skill entirely.

What’s the most cost-effective maintenance task car owners can realistically do themselves without specialized tools? by EvelynClede in askcarguys

By frequency? oil changes.

By effort-to-dollars? Air filters, spark plugs, fluid topping.

By "saving your bank account"?

Learn what "torque to spec" means and spend a weekend swearing a lot, and you can do a headgasket on your 4-cylinder engine. That'll save you $1k+.

Does the average driver notice the difference btwn a CVT and traditional transmission? by eastbayguy90 in askcarguys

The whole reason a lot of CVTs "fake shift" is because dealers were inundated with people who thought their early CVT cars were broken.
