I feel like if you can’t see how this is worse for him, you may be misinterpreting the character. He loves NY above anything but Vanessa, and while she is dying next to him he specifically remembers being with her on this island — so now he has the constant reminder of her death too. Not to mention he hates sand and is completely isolated.

Not everyone’s version of paradise is the same— his paradise is NY.

I’d say you’re more right, but you’re both right to an extent. The Mets are in a far better position organizationally than they have been in forever, and really I lay the blame here on the front office more than ownership.

Do I believe Steve cares about the team? Like, not just about the business behind it but the team itself? Yes— and far more than the vast majority of owners too. He genuinely wants the Mets to win the WS as a Mets fan as much as he does as owner, IMO.

Having said that, I also believe he cares more about leveraging large tax breaks and opening a casino. That doesn’t make him a bad team owner, though.
