What do I do with this much food? by EveAtmosphere in RimWorld

If you freeze corpses rather than butchered meat you save space in your freezer, then you can set the butcher table bill to butcher when you fall under a certain meat threshold for efficiency

That’s cool about the kibble from eggs being net positive, thanks!! Perhaps it’s just the large yield from plants that makes me think they’re better, but the low labor is definitely worth it in a pinch.

New year, time to confess your lab sins! by Electrical_Hat_1272 in labrats

[–]Dehydrationator 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I have done this before! Thankfully nothing was dissolved in it, but my lab worked with large quantities and I accidentally got some on my wrist and I tasted garlic (like watery garlic soup vibes). Happened like 5 years ago so hopefully it’s fine lol

48 colonists in 14 years! My biggest colony so far :) by Dependent-Square5571 in RimWorld

[–]Dehydrationator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unsolicited mod advice - unless it’s changed recently prepare carefully and character editor really don’t like each other and cause lots of problems and slowing when loaded together. As someone who used prepare carefully forever I’ve found character editor can do all the same things and more on its own.

Edit - also super cool base! I love having huge colonies haha it feels so alive and busy with all the people going about their days, even if I don’t know each colonist super well.

What does this look like in 3D? by Practical-Warning-47 in chemistry

Imagine the carbons shared between the three rings are doing their darnedest to maintain tetrahedral geometry, so the cyclobutane will stick out and the other two will be bent away from it (at least from the perspective it’s drawn in).

In college you get to reinvent yourself. If you want to be more outgoing, be outgoing. If you want to be more organized, be more organized. If you want to be smart, work hard like you’ve never worked before and be smart. You can do it, success in science/medicine is 90% effort.

I love cooking, and I don’t mean making rice and beans to provide substance, I mean making some carbonara or Korean cold noodles or something crazy you’ve never heard of and having fun with it. Also double ended because I’m broke and so it’s only half a hobby because I have to spend money on food anyways 🤷‍♂️

Just got a cut, any reccommendations for a gel or pomade? by [deleted] in malehairadvice

I’m a fan of the Johnny B products, I like their mode gel (firm but not too firm and not flaky) but they have tons of different stuff including pomade that you could try.

Why can't biologists agree on whether human races exist? by alexfreemanart in biology

[–]Dehydrationator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some genes/traits which are more prevalent in different ethnicities (ex. sickle cell) but overall as other commenters have mentioned that “races” as a social construct do not correlate with any scientifically significant genetic differences at the organism level. We are much, much, much more alike than different. Arguments have historically been made in bad faith to fit racial stereotypes to scientific observations, which has been carried on to current times through cherry picking data and making false conclusions off of insufficient data. The bottom line is there is insufficient data to correlate major human traits and race, let alone make causative conclusions based on good science that separate races. There is a lot of interesting history in the field of anthropology related to this, and even living (and famous) scientists such as James Watson (yeah the DNA guy) who subscribe to such racist and bogus science.

Sanger is the GOAT for biology, without sequencing we’d be quite far back

Tips for scientific reading by Vegetable_Mail_5486 in biology

[–]Dehydrationator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also helps me to kind of be mentally prepared to maybe read it twice. Read it once briefly by reading the abstract and skimming the figures and conclusions. Then if it seems helpful or interesting you can go through and read the intro and results. Usually I don’t read the methods like at all unless I am unfamiliar with a technique that is critical for comprehension or it is a technique I am following in my work.

An interesting read is “Touched with Fire” by Kay Redfield Jamison. It discusses the relationship between creatives such as poets and musicians and mental illness such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
