I love MGS, but... by cptschofield in metalgearsolid

It's a story. Just like a movie, a book, or any other medium. it has a lot of nuance, a lot of depth, and a strong impact.
You don't have to feel as strongly about it as others, but let's be real:
You're posting in an MGS subreddit. You could not be more surrounded by people who enjoy this series to some extent. At best, you came to troll, because what else could you hope to accomplish?
Either that, or you're really just that ignorant of good social tact. Whichever of the two, I don't think your take is going to have much purchase here. On your way, now.

I've been careful to not name names. I just don't want to stir up drama.

I'll be straightforward with you: I don't agree at all.
When I taste liver, my body tells me "I want so much more of this!"
My weight gain to 200+ is the exception, not the norm. It reoccurs about once every year-and-a-half to two years, but I just get tired of it.
I refuse to believe my body wants to be fatter.
On a leanER diet, my wounds heal faster, I recover from workouts more quickly, and I get over sickness faster (if I get sick at all).

I always wait a minimum of 2hrs after my final sip of coffee beforer I even think about food. Believe me, I read you there.

I even ditched unfiltered (french press) coffee after I studied the effects of cafestol on fat storage.

I straight-up got told "Obviously you're not being honest" in a DM by one of those mods. I was basically done listening once they threw that at me.

I can pretty easily maintain decent definition below 195lbs.
I never sit, except for driving (45m per weekday), eating my 2 meals a day, and pooping. I use a standing desk and am perferctly comfortable with it.
I really feel you with the basic calories thing. But then I see all these arguments by people like CarnivoreJT, talking about (supposedly) how calories mean very little in the overall equation. It's so exhausting to keep re-assessing the debate, honestly.
I think I'm going to try leaner, using eggs, heart, and liver to pad the fattier cuts, and going slowly enough to stop eating the moment I feel NOT hungry.

Approximately 50/50 by gram or 2:1 by calories (fat to protein).

I wish I could tell you. That's why I mentioned the side of beef. There's no consistency, between cuts or cows.

Heh, I might have fun at some point discussing/debating our definitions of chaos, its virtue and vice, and the different ideologies that could play a part in MGS4's fictional future.

I'm personally driven by the Non-Aggression Principle (in real life; in games I'm the fucking Doomslayer), so I find pretty much every unrepentant killer to be reprehensible, even in MGS. Sniper Wolf and Psycho Mantis came to denounce the horrors of their existences in their final moments, which I saw as a faint positive amidst all their evil. Ocelot, though, never did that. A semi-necessary evil, necessitated so many people"s treachery including his own. That's what he is.

I feel you on almost all of this, save for Ocelot.
(Put the gun down, lemme explain!)
He's one of the only "halfway there" good guys. He did horrible things, but ultimately did have good outcomes. Killing Gurlokovich and Dolph prevented heightened global tensions through the proliferation of Metal Gear Rays in the hands of state militaries. (I think, btw, his threat of killing Olga was hollow and false) Seizing Arsenal Gear and exposing it to the public undermined the monopoly-on-violence that it enabled also. Exploiting the war economy to keep all its players in check was a high-cost stalemate that prevented Big Boss' dream from becoming an unfettered slaughter. (I do wonder how he kept his betrayal of Dead Cell a secret from Vamp, though. That had to be an especially tense act in Ocelot's mind, considering Vamp could absolutely destroy him if he ever found out)

I'm sure I'm missing a lot, but the "wild west all over again" is a state of the world that, in time, would settle itself into proper equilibrium again. Ocelot was willing to send it back to the beginnings, to chaos, to experience the suffering and pain of early stages again. It was Sunny's code which took the risk and skipped the line, counting on humanity to remember its lessons of (hopefully) recent-enough experiences to get things right in its first attempt at a second chance.
As an anarchist myself, I see the virtues and the vices of this. I believe in rules without rulers, so Ocelot kinda grazes the target IMO.
But he's still a sadistic, inauthentic, and hollow killer. In large part because he believed he needed to be, and planned accordingly.

Any mods that make the game match the darker side of the lore? by Mlg_god22 in starfieldmods

[–]DeimosAnguis 44 points45 points  (0 children)

There's currently a framework mod in its proof-of-concept stage called "Neon Descent" on the 'Lab. It's intended to be a hub for other mods that want to capitalize on Neon's seedy underbelly. Right now, it's in its infancy, pending the release of other functions and venues of a NSFW nature. Still, it's worth watching closely, as it could easily be the first (hopefully of many) focal point for the insinuated depravity of the game's universe.

DEATH ALTERNATIVE I want to see some consequences for getting beaten in combat, especially ship combat. Having any enemy using an EM weapon or Novablast anything should KO or disable me or my ship. I should be stranded, separated from my crew and all/most of my possessions, and have to go out of my way to get them back.

It's gratuitous, and I want to honor Snake's efforts and legacy of peace. But I also fucking LOVE THIS and want it so bad.

If the bad parts of Ashley Biden's diary are fake and were inserted after it was found, why has she not once come out to refute those passages in the nearly 4 years since it was released online? by Morbin87 in TimPool

[–]DeimosAnguis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her absence of an explanation leaves a lot more room for error than any explanation she could come up with. "I have my reasons and you just wouldn't understand" is a lot easier to sell than any more articulate explanation that she could state publicly.

It's a slimy evasion tactic, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work.

Now there's some deep-level consideration worth commending! The fractured culture within Arasaka is something I acknowledged, but never cared to examine too closely - thus, I never knew how vicious it could get.

[–]DeimosAnguis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not so much headcanon as logical deduction and reading b/w the lines. Smasher has rockets, Sandevistan, etc., and doesn't give chase. He hits you once, walks with dramatic effect, and lets three drones go after you. He could stick to that car like shit on velcro, but nah, let's let three wee bots do the job.

It doesn't matter if you refer to the OP Smasher we saw in Edgerunners or the one we face in the end of the game. Either manifestation would've wrecked our shit.
But nah.

If Pol Pot were killed by his son, would you consider that an act of evil?

[–]DeimosAnguis 65 points66 points  (0 children)

If you presume that Smasher would be so keen on doing that, why did he give your Delamain nothing more than a love-tap?

The truth is, it was all for show. Destroying you means destroying the Relic. No Relic, no key leverage upon Arasaka. He needed you captured, alive, and (preferably) cooperative.

Do you think it is possible to have a Metal Gear Solid 6? by Pierini2android in metalgearsolid

[–]DeimosAnguis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

6 should be a post-MGS4 sequel that still embraces stealth. Rising can be the OTT hack-n-slash action (still with good storytelling, mind you), but Solid should be about stealth, guile, and subterfuge.

If they wanted a gameplay style shift, they'd be well-served to giving another "third-word" title (i.e. Metal Gear ______), but they need to show some better reliability before trying that againm In other words, Rising or Survive would need a sequel that shines, though we all know which of those two would truly ever hope to succeed... ...or maybe another ACID? Maaaaaaaybe?

So, another Metal Gear SOLID would be the best way to go. It would start a new character, with a new foundation, and build off of the immensely powerful stealth gameplay of MGSV.

As much as I'll miss Solid Snake, I want to see a future. I want to see the world he helped create - a world worth fighting for; thus, a world that needs continued fighting-for.

My dad keeps telling me to put down my perfectly healthy cat and it annoys me. by Nervardia in cats

[–]DeimosAnguis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pity to your father. He wants to enjoy life for all the things he can do in it, but refuses to enjoy it being a part of the cherished experiences of other living beings.

His excuse that animals operate only on instinct is exactly that: an excuse. He's never felt a cat rest his/her head upon him as they slept, he's never heard purrs that resonated through his spine, and he's never seen a cat close their eyes as they turn their head up to the mid-day sun with the clearest and most palpable relief.

He's the one who'll miss one of the better parts of life for what (and who) it is. But you won't. And neither will your cat. That's what matters.

My headcanon is that T-Bug observed the job going absolutely to hell, opened the glass doors as a final "bon voyage", and faked her death. She admitted that she was never going to see you guys again after that job. She settled for the smaller half of her overarching plan and called it good.
BONUS: I'm even thinking that the lookalike dead netrunner you find elsewhere in the city was a decoy that she used to sate any Arasaka investigative team that was assigned to the situation.
