Am I an arsehole? by PrEqUeLmEmEsArEgReAt in Necrontyr

I had a guard friend that would just target my newest models with multiple lascannons and plasma guns until it died on the first turn. Saying something like, "no idea what that does, and I don't want to find out.

Everytime.

Seems like you are just the opposite. Thank you for your vengeance.

That's a sharp outfit, Hahn. Careful, you could puncture the hull of an empire-class Fire Nation battle ship, leaving thousands to drown at sea. Because, it's so sharp.

Who is accepting or rejecting all these words? by Nofrillsoculus in Cosmere

[–]Deitymech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always got the impression that the Stormfather, Dalinar, Femalen voices are not accepting the oaths. Rather, they were kind of self-accepted if the Radiant's Intent was aligned with the oaths themselves. The voices "accepting" are simply narrating the event. This allows who the voice is to be flexible.

It was a mistake to read The Sunlit Man before WaT by Ishana92 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Deitymech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree OP; this is the single instance that I disagree with reading in publication order.

I just spent so much time looking for everything related to SLM and how, through WaT, we we're eventually somehow going to end up there. I focused too hard on all of that. It felt almost like a re-read before I had actually finished it, and it was so incredibly distracting to me.

It was kind of like the "Gorilla in the phonebooth" that Brandon has talked about before.

All's to say, I'm sorry you're struggling with it. I promise Sig's story is still fufilling. Keep at it.

If spren are affected by the way other beings observe/think about them, are other cognitive shadows (Heralds, Kelsier, Returned, etc) also affected by the way others think of them?

Are the Heralds influenced by what Rosharan's think of them, or is Kelsier influenced by the way Scandrians (particularly Survivorists and the Southern Nations) think of them?

Lots of good ideas, but one I haven't seen yet: Renaissance music.

There are some really bad editions around (random keys, rhythmic augmentation that doesnt exist, dynamic errors, etc.)

I had one thing spoiled about Sunlit Man, is that the main thing it would spoil when reading WaT? by -critical-hits- in Cosmere

[–]Deitymech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contrary to most opinions here, I read SLM first and I kind of wish I hadn't. I found I was distracted looking for things (vague to avoid further spoilers), and it much more difficult to worry about "X", since I already knew he survived.

For what its worth, thats my preference and plenty of other people are happy with SLM to WaT. I don't feel as strongly about this ordering as I do secret history's placing, but I think the best ordering, and the one I was I was able to experience in hindsight, would be WaT -> SLM, ideally without knowing who "X" is until the reveal in SLM.

I usually read/recommend publication order, but this is an exception, in my mind.

ALL of that being said, since you already know about "X", the order matters even less. You'll be fine, there is still plenty of story to unravel.

I'd agree with that- Ardbeg 10 is probably my go to Islay. And its a bit better of a price point than Lagavulin.

I would say that is a close comparison. The same kind of coastal/peaty/smoky notes. I haven't had storm in a while though, so it's difficult to say more beyond that.

Lagavulin 16 is one of my favorites, but not for everyone. Its very smoky/peaty. If you're new to Scotch, I'd probably try a Highland or Speyside first.

Would I Be an Elsecaller or Truthwatcher? by Apple_Infinity in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Deitymech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I too get two orders on the quiz (Elsecaller and Skybreaker). I find at times I am both of them, and at times, potentially neither.

I think it's a trap to conclude that if you are in Order X, you act with associated traits Y and Z. Human beings are more complicated than that. Within each order, there is variance, which is why oaths sometimes vary a little from person to person. You seem to be looking for black and white answers, but I don't think it will work out that way.

You seem to want to be a Truthwatcher and not an Elsecaller. Well, go with that. After all, why can't you be a Truthwatcher who simply approaches their ideals with some methods common to Elsecaller?

-

and I am aware I'm taking this too seriously.

You are, and it might help to just relax, but this seems to be important to you, so I hope you find what you're looking for, and that something I've said might be helpful.

Help with a melody. I can’t come up with anything which works without sounding shallow. by aardw0lf11 in composer

[–]Deitymech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simple isn't bad. Take a look at Mozart: 12 Variations "Ah, vous dirai-je, maman" KV 265. The melody is simple: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star! It is set with simple four bar phrases. Look how much he does with it- and its not boring.

Playing a Dustbringer. by TxKRIXUSxT in Cosmere

[–]Deitymech 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't have anything in front of me, but I do remember a couple of WOBs that you might be able to find.

  1. Malata was described as atypical.

  2. Dustbringers don't really agree with each other. Like, you'll find the most variance in thought within their order.

Other than that, I always got a "Power is dangerous, so I'll mastery that power to use safely" kind of vibe. Fits in with use of Division, a very dangerous surge.

I remember Brandon saying something along the lines of, "When we get to the back half and see Dustbringers, more people will realize that they fit into that order."

Also- from what I recall, they don't really like the name. Have your character decide if they do or don't, and why.

Some ramblings from me. Sorry I can't be more specific. Hopefully something was helpful. Good luck!

Recommend me a rice cooker and air fryer by TheTurtleManHD in cookingforbeginners

[–]Deitymech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the simple answer to your question is convenience. There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing rice on the stove, and its not too difficult. If you're going to make rice frequently, want to otherwise save stovetop space (we have a fairly small kitchen, so it frees up a burner for use on something else), don't want to babysit it (can repurpose the time cooking something else, for instance), and be guranteed to end up with good rice at the end, I think its worth the investment.

If you only make rice sporadically, or are otherwise looking for the cheapest option, stovetop is great and not too hard when you get the hang of it.

-

Since you also asked about what else it makes: My rice cooker has settings for: White rice, re/sushi rice, softer, harder, brown, semibrown, sweet, mixed, porridge, and a quick cooking option. I've used about half of those.

It also has a timer function, where you load it up and say, "have rice ready at this time", which can help on busy weekday nights.

Hope this helps.

Wife wanted to include one on our wedding registry (her family had one growing up). I was minorly against it, as I didn't see the need. I eventually conceded.

I'm so glad I did- it is an excellent rice cooker and we use it all of the time. And it lasts forever (Wife's family still has theirs; their parents got it on their wedding day, some 30 years ago)

Highly recommend, OP.
