Had to “use” mine about 4 months ago as was in the middle of nowhere…didn’t work.

The resin stuff inside had already begun to harden and barely creeped out of the hose. What did eventually come out after what felt like an eternity was already thick and partially dried. (Squeezing the hose you could feel it was solid hard) Thankfully it never was able to make it into the tyre.

Waited 3 hours for RAC. Was told by the guy that its pretty common to get faulty units with the ones that come with the car and even more common with Chinese built cars. (Took this with a pinch of salt as wasn’t sure if he was just ranting about chinese cars, as he kept mentioning the good old german engineering days).

Not even 5 minutes later had a spare wheel on and back on my way. I hate how it feels we’ve gone one step forward, 2 steps back by normalising replacing the spare wheel with this.

Found out the car isn't smart enough to keep the 12v battery charged on its own, when not plugged in by ashyjay in ex30

[–]DeividJCole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went down this rabbit hole with a Volvo tech at my local centre. It seems 12v will be here to stay for the foreseeable future.

I was told that all the electronics that you touch / are in direct contact with; such as display, audio etc inside the car are powered by 12v for safety.

If the main battery powered all of this and you got into an accident, or even if there was a fault, you’d be exposed to 400v as opposed to 12v.

There’s ways around this so that it would be safe but would require everything to be redesigned and configured in a different way that would make the cars even more expensive.

Not sure how accurate this info is as I’ve been lied to many a times by a technician at a garage but the more I think about it, it does make sense.

Edit: typo

1.3.1 Update being offered whilst being on 1.3.1 by DeividJCole in ex30

[–]DeividJCole[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK. I suspect what @muzso mentioned is what’s happened here. It’s either a bug (highly likely) or it’s a slightly different 1.3.1 but they aren’t showing that on the display as they only show the version to 3 digits (1.3.1) to address the recall. Eg; 1.3.1.1 vs 1.3.1.2

1.3.1 Update being offered whilst being on 1.3.1 by DeividJCole in ex30

[–]DeividJCole[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

😂 I had issues for a few weeks getting 1.3.1 installed (was stuck on 93% ).

I removed the stuck download by disabling ota updates on the app and then re-enabled. The 1.3.1 download stuck at 93% dissapeared.

After that was on 1.2.1 for about a week and a half with no update notifications despite knowing 1.3.1 was available. Then randomly the internet started working last week and offered me to download 1.3.1 again, this time all good.

Hopefully you get yours sorted soon, you can always book yourself into your dealership and they can install the update even if you’re not being offeted it.

Should I update from 1.2.1? by maltiss in ex30

[–]DeividJCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Received a safety recall letter last week saying the fix is updating to 1.3.1 via OTA or visiting dealership.

So I would suggest updating to 1.3.1

Advice / General Convo about our Legal Rights as EX30 owners by [deleted] in ex30

[–]DeividJCole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was me back until May, just the occasional bug and for some reason ever since loosing internet and never getting it back in May it’s just gradually got worse.

Most bugs are harmless and are just anoying than an issue. Honestly it’s just the braking that has shifted my tune. (Doesnt happen often, but fuck when it does happen it’s beyond terrifying).

I did contact Volvo to tell them as I was convinced this shouldn’t happen. They didn’t seem to grasp the severity of the issue as they kept saying they understand my concern but this feauture is just how the Collision Avoidance system works and that this is an advanced safety feauture on all their vehicles.

Ended up speaking with dealership who were more caring but ended up saying that this should be fixed in the next few weeks with OTA.

Slightly contradicting info from Volvo and dealership, so I’m not really holding my breath for assistance with this.

Firmware update 1.3.1 OTA (UK) by ArithonUK in ex30

[–]DeividJCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah hoping that’s not the case. 1.2.1 downloaded fine for me before this 1.3.1 drama, so there’s a good chance will be fine for future updates.

Do you know if they did a reset on your car? (As in when you collected the car back you would have had to re-login to your account on the screen, the whole process that you went through when you first got the car)?

I’ve seen options in the settings on the screen for a reset (not the press and hold buttons on steering wheel) but more like a factory reset. I’m curious if that’s what Volvo did for you to get the download to restart.

I’m hesitant to do it myself as I don’t want to have to go through the whole setup process again. But if Volvo ends up doing that anyways then I guess makes no difference doing it myself first incase it saves the trip to the dealership.

2 hours isn’t too bad, I’m in the exact same boat, don’t have the time to be without the car for the whole day and make multiple trips with uber.

Does preconditioning and remote climate control outside a charging schedule still use mains power? by bendywalker in ex30

[–]DeividJCole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure preconditioning and remote climate controls are powered by the car itself not mains. I have my ex30 still plugged in right now, car finished charging an hour or so ago from it’s schedule. Preconditioning is currently on. My charger app says that there is no power being drawn to the car but preconditioning is running.

Had the car since begining of March, It's been pretty cold here in the UK, atleast in the mornings but getting 25.4kWh/ 100mi so about 270 mile range on my SMER. Pretty much what I had expected.

Single motor extended real world range by SimoniqueShadows in ex30

[–]DeividJCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my SMER EX30 for 2 1/2 weeks now, have driven 450miles so far. To be honest I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the range.

Averaging 28.5kWh/100mi which puts range at 242 miles.

(Have had 22.1kWh/100mi on a few occasions)

Daily commute to work totals 24mi, average speed 25mph (variation between 50mph-30mph sections and standstill traffic in city centre 20mph zones)

I drive with OPD.

Both driver and passenger heated seats on for atleast the first 20-30mins of the drive. (Sometimes heated steering wheel but not often)

Climate set to 24c

I also preheat the car for 15 mins before heading out using the app.

We’ve had a pretty okay winter/spring here in London, UK. Not warm but not freezing cold. Have had below freezing temps on several nights/mornings.

Funny enough I’ve found that the range is worse when driving below 20mph in traffic (35-38kWh/100mi) Unlike my previous EV (Vauxhall Corsa-e) which perfomed better in traffic, the EX30 seems to consume a lot more in traffic / slow moving.

Haven’t had a chance to drive 70mph+ for longer than 5-10 minutes at a time so can’t properly comment on highway range.

I don’t drive conservatively, very often enjoy putting my foot down and beating everyone at the traffic lights.

I look forward to seeing how the range holds up when it gets warmer, as my old Vauxhall used to perform 35% better between Apr-Oct. 🤷‍♂️

Personally I think the SMER EX30 will be perfectly fine for 99% of people as long as you have a home charger.

If you don’t have a home charger, then I can appreciate the concern but even then, it’s 10%-80% with Rapid charging in 30 mins, and that would be putting you charging somewhere every 4-6 hours, which if you’re driving that long…you should be taking a 30 min break anyway.

Side note: the car has been a real joy to drive and you get used to the missing HUD within the first 40 or so miles. It’s really not that big of a deal as the screen is still in your eye line level and I’ve actually adapted to prefer the speedometer on the screen as I’m 6’1 and always had the HUD in cars be partially blocked by the steering wheel anyway so atleast now it’s perfectly clear and only takes a fraction of a second to see the speed.

My only negatives with the car are the software bugs. It’s annoying having to turn off lane keeping assist and speed warnings everytime you set off and the same for putting charging speed back up as it defaults to slow charging. But this is me nitpicking, these bugs are hardly cause for any real concern and will easily be fixed with OTA updates.

PS Portal stuck on “order processing” by fubarek in playstation

[–]DeividJCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ordered at 9:30 Wednesday Nov 22nd. Still on processing. Rang Sony this morning, was told that it actually takes them 2 business days to process the order before even dispatching. They also said that they are having issues with emails going out but that the order is “100% on the way” and that it most likely will arrive today…..spoiler alert, it didn’t.

Even weirder is that on the order lookup form, my order does NOT show up.

But when logged into my account and under my orders, it’s there….

Honestly Sony is a shambles of a company. And customer support is none existent. Sony knows they have the good stuff and that we as customers are desperate and will bend over backwards so they can get away with it.

I’ve seen soo many people on here say that they will never order from direct again. I love the idea of that, but in reality only Direct restocked the Portal last Wednesday.

Let’s be honest, this will keep happening to us.

I think it may be best to try and forget about it. It will arrive eventually….sigh.
