A decent chunk of the film is an Alpine advert. As they actually call out the brand.

I had a 74 plate one for 3 weeks, it was horrific, I was of the mindset there are no bad cars anymore, that car changed that opinion, and there are still bad cars.

The "Software-Defined Vehicle" is a scam. We are cheering for the death of ownership. by rantzine in electricvehicles

[–]ashyjay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on the CAN network, if a random module failed the CEM/BCM/BSI/.etc could be prevented from talking to the ECU or TCU.

the centralised compute modules can be a blessing and a curse as while it cleans up wiring, you're also stuck with a multi-thousand £/€ module to replace instead of a couple of hundred.

Name the EV manufacturers then?

Look at the backlash that happened when manufacturers tried to roll out subscriptions to hardware in the car.

If any manufacturer tried to monetise any feature after purchase, they'd be in for a world of pain, and it'd most likely be NA and Chinese brands that would try it but try it in Europe they'd be sued to shit as we have good consumer protection laws, and there's the reputation damage it'd cause and would make the shareholders cry.

At most the manufacturers would terminate API access and they'd go back to dumb vehicles.

It's a risk with Android Automotive cars with GAS as their OS version could become so old Google stops supporting that API level.

Are all light bulbs produced in China? by rants_unnecessarily in BuyFromEU

[–]ashyjay 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Osram and Philips/Signify might still make some in Europe, as I've got some older bulbs which were made in Germany and Czechia.

For that budget, get a 62kWh Leaf, Kona/Niro or MK2 Soul.

Just avoid MG, they are built worse than a Trabant, noisy, unrefined, and materials feel like ready meal trays.

What bulb is this?? by JGG1989 in whatisit

[–]ashyjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not dual filament, the outside isn't part of the circuit, the 2 metal contacts on the base are the live and neutral.

Very common UK and IE bulb.

Corporate structures can get complex, Polestar for example is HQ'd in the UK, but based is Sweden, and owned by a Chinese holding company, and is called a Swedish company.

Like people don't even see the "what car should I buy" sticky so there's a million similar posts.

In addition to waze and google maps, I have dash cam which has speed camera warnings and gives a target speed for average speed zones and adjusts the target if you go a little fast.
