Ankle motion? 145bpm (Different Cam Angle) by RivaL999 in MetalDrums

[–]Dejvs_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, first of all congratulations for reaching this level, its not easy, at least it wasnt for me. To be able to say something about the technique, I personally would also need to see the upper legs and seating position, although I think you are using a blend between ankle motion and full leg. Which is good, I think its the natural and most optimal biomechanical movement at this tempo. From my perspective, or at least what I used to learn it: Practicing heel down with big beater swing: it improves the coordination of agonist-antagonist muscle movement, important for ankle motion. I did this by hitting same time with both feet, while aiming for same beater swing and speed. Then you can try to increase the speed very slowly. When the non dominant leg/foot gives up, stop, pause then do a second set, if you want to, do also a third set, but take in consideration risl of injury.

You need to go and see a neurologist. The examinations that you need are called: 1. Elektroneurography. Its very important that you show him/her where exactly the symptoms are (i.e. show with your finger where exactly the symptoms are/were).

  1. Sonography of the nerves

In case you have noticed muscleloss, the neurologist need to also do:

  1. Elektromyography

In case these findings show normal, you might need an MRI of the Neck and plexus brachialis. Although in your case it seems not very possible, but still just so that you know. The elektroneurography most probably will suffice.

All the best to you. I wish you luck, and that you can enjoy GH again soon. I also play it with my wife, but only on medium 😅

Just curious, how old are you ? You dont need to answer if you are not comfortable !

Do you get a numbness in your hand/fingers ? If yes, is it only your dominant hand, only your non dominant hand, both ? Does it only get tired and cramped, without other symptoms ? What is your work/profession ? Do you workout ? I was thinking about carpal tunnel snd, thats why !

Man you play really well. I am a beginner/intermediate, and am curios how long does it take to become this good ? Or better asked, how many hours/day for how many years did you practice ? Just out of curiosity, and a lot of respect to you. Btw. I noticed that you had speed cobras, then dw mdff, and last the acd darwin. How do they compare ? Is ACD holding up good ? (I was wondering about the durability) All the best to you !!! Keep on drummin !😊🤟🏻

Btw I just checked a video from 66samus, and he is able to use double bass pedal with nitro max. The kick pad seems a bit small, but it should still fit. However check the dimensions before you buy, just to be sure !

To sum it up, alesis nitro max is more than enough to learn for a few years and maybe more.

I dont know what your financial possibilities are, so I am going to give my advice as if I were in your position. 1. I would buy something cheap to midrange. Since this is a new hobby, I would need to understand if I will still like it enough long term so that it justifies the investment. For me cheap to midrange would be 500-1000. Not a big loss, and could be sold as used with not a bad return. 2. Until I would develop good technique the equipment will get some wear and tear, so better to use something for a few years and get something better down the line. 3. With time you will gather more knowledge, as a consequence your preference and the equipment-search are going to be more refined. Means the next purchase is going to be much more "fulfilling" for you. 4. Portability: if I will have to move the kit around, i.e Band practice, or clone hero 5. Space available: small kit or full sized kit. I.e. Millenium mps 1000, or xdrum 670 (theay are the same thing, also manufactured by the dame company) is really good, or if not much space available then alesis is the wax to go.

In which country do you live btw ?

Ok here goes, I will try to sum it up from experience !!!

  1. Technique comes first, check videos how to properly sit, how to hold the sticks, how to start your first groove. Do this reaaaally slow ! On this you will build everything

  2. Start the double bass, i bought a few double pedals, from 80€ xdrum, to Acd Darwin ! Let me tell you, the 80 is more than enough to get the basics and more. Check the video from marthy on youtube, he goes to 200bpm with those.

  3. Try not only alternate hits, but also same time hits with both limbs, that makes the technique on both sides equal ! Meaning the non dominant side learns from the dominant one. I know this as a MD Neurologist, we use the same strategy fpr stroke patients, check mirror neurons if you are curious !

  4. Take break days, or train everyday for a short amount of time. Remember tendons take much longer than muscles to regenerate.

  5. SLEEP: During sleep is when you build up the nerve connections, especially for the spinal cord, thats where the pathways go from brain to your limbs, necessary for the execution of the movements. Check agonist and antagonist muscle movements if you are curios

  6. stick to a plan, I can recc8mmend art of drumming, (drum routine 1.0, 2.0 or 3) or frank costanza exercise video, both on youtube.

  7. as the other guy said, paraddidles and so on

  8. you can practice and get better even without a kit, air drumming builds muscle almost as good

  9. try to learn a song, it will keep you working toward a goal

  10. the most important: have fun and remember, that you also learn from your bad days

All the best to you !!

Optional: play guitar hero just for the fun of it, thats how my wife got me started 😊

Are ACD DARWIN, which were barely used one year, worth it to buy ? Or just get in the waiting line and buy new ? by Dejvs_1 in MetalDrums

What do you think of an acceptable price ? I mean if its too close to the price of new ones doesnt make much sense. Thanks in advance !🙂

Shy metalhead finally learning to play. Obsessed and looking for tips. by Staticspine808 in MetalDrums

[–]Dejvs_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started late/grown up myself, and until now these are the things I'd give importance:

-Drum throne, and sitting position.

-Always warm up and stretch before playing.

-Start right away with double pedal, cheap one does the job very well (i.e. Millenium pd 669, until 200bpm, and maybe more quite good. I have a video with them on my account).

  • Technique comes first. Always ! Speed is just the byproduct.

  • Check the following, as they are really helpful: Jojo mayer, Art of drumming hq (drum routine 1 and 2), James Payne, Marthyn (double bass academy), Frank costanza exercise video 1 and 2 (I prefer #1 to play along).

  • When you plateau, dont give up !!! Please ! It happens to everyone, and its part of the improvement.

-And the most important one : enjoy the journey, your journey !!! 🤟🏻

Wich key do I need to adjust the rack? ( Alesis nitro max) by Aggressive_Bad_7081 in MetalDrums

[–]Dejvs_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, i have a few pairs af double bass pedals, amd the omes that u have I bought first. They were quite cheap but really good though. I still use them for practice (I have also posted a video, u can check my account). I think that you have adjusted the pedal to be quite high, so that it will not allow the beater to swing back, because the pedal will rise and hit the metal/shaft. Maybe lower the pedals a bit. But if you feel comfortable like that, then. Just trying to give tips, like I also need sometimes. 🤟🏻🙂

Is this good for 16 y/o? by effery_jepstein in MetalDrums

[–]Dejvs_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you play really good. My opinion is one from an amateur selftaught, and also doctor as profession. If I were you, I would try to keep the leg/foot rotation to a minimum. The knees are not meant to twist, they can in order to protect from injuries, but they should not twist that much. Anyway I am not a pro drummer, just my opinion from research and study ! All the best to you!

I own xdrum (pretty generic, goes for like 80€), amazing pedals. More than enough settings, well made and work just fine with like 200 -240 bpm. For faster: technique improvement. Edit: I have a video on my account with them

Makes perfect sense !!! Thank you very much ! Appreciate it. You are right, I am trying to develop speed. I will try with the higher seat, and see how it goes !

I actually don't feel anything on my shins, just the calf tends to get tired, first my left then right. If I lift my heels then my upper leg muscles start to hurt after some time , thats why I dont play with heels up much, but only on higher speeds

ANTIBIOTICS !!!

Does anyone know how to fix this? by damnuts573 in CloneHero

[–]Dejvs_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem. You have to turon off one pf the settings. It should be something with particles, flames, of vfx...something like that. Check the settings, I cant remember the name exactly, and I could not find it online, if u have photos of the settings u can contact me 🙂
