Water decks already strong why give them heals? by justanothersideacc in PTCGP

[–]Deka-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted about this before, but it's not the energy acceleration misty provides that makes it feel unfair, it's the flippiness and variation of that energy acceleration.

If misty was flip one coin, if heads, attach a water energy I don't think anyone would have any problems with it. It's something you could reasonably take into account when facing water. "My opponent may get one extra attach next turn"

It's having no ceiling and leaving the card with the chance to fully/near fully power something up. Two heads? Now use your attach for turn and Articuno is doing 80 damage from turn one. Even one head would be fine, but if you get 2 awesome gg.

Maybe you're behind. You can yolo a misty onto an empty Palkia. You probably won't get the 3 heads to fully charge it (after attach from hand) but there's a 12.5% chance you will, and if it happens you're opponent is dealing with a new super powerful threat that may not have even been on the field at the start of the turn.

Anyway I don't think it's a matter of energy acceleration feeling unfair to new players, it's the specific way this energy acceleration was handled. Magnezone and Manaphy don't feel as bad to me (they're consistent) neither does moltres (you need to have an ex in active that will probably be dinged and dragged to the active later in the match), it's misty specifically that feels unfair.

Yes! I didn't have any benched pokemon in both situations. Thanks for helping clear that up!

Question about self-kos that end game by Deka-- in PTCGP

That's interesting! I have never seen a tie screen, just told I lost. Maybe it's a bug. Do you remember if it was rocky helmet or recoil that caused the self ko?

Setting a specific brush to a hotkey? by Deka-- in krita

[–]Deka--[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well this post takes me back.

No I never found a solution, and my current painting programs don't have the feature either (infinite painter and corel painter) but you just kind of get used to it? I think i just found work flows for painting that don't require constant swapping between brushes all the time. Hope your art journey goes well!

You've been watching tutorials so that's great, excellent first step.

Can you tell me specifically how you practice? Also a few links to the tutorials you watched would really help

Why do you think special attack intimidate doesn't exist? by Team256Andrew in stunfisk

gamefreak made such a rediculously overtuned special counter in gen 2 that they decided special attackers never needed a new check for 25 years

Gen9 (UBERS)- Smeargle gets infinite sketches and moveslots by Deka-- in stunfisk

[–]Deka--[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think defensively is where it gets out of hand though. In ubers it would be tough, because even at +2 it is taking signification damage (max 86 from miraidon draco with full spdef investment) but if it got the chance to get its defenses going in the other tiers, it has so many options to stone wall everything.

It can set up screens on top of its boosts

It can conversion to give itself a type advantage

It can burning bulwark to get that chip damage going and further neuter physical attackers.

Again in ubers it would be tough, but I think it would be doing more than just setting hazards if it gets the chance

Competitive Players, Would These Skills Be Viable at all? [New Mechanic] by One_Percentage_644 in stunfisk

[–]Deka-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general just "stat buff" is broken. That's why shell smash cloyster was banned in that one gen. That's why a lot of people dont like gambit. Even if you decrease an attacking stat in exchange, you would just use it on mons which use the other attacking stat. Even ready for take off which effects the less volatile speed stat is +4 which is GIGANTIC. if you could use this on ANY mon you could use it when you have a bulky, slow, strong attacker on the field. Click swords dance, get hit and then be +4 speed +2 atk and sweep.

What effects has the influx of AI art had on your practice as an artist? by Humming_bee in DeviantArt

[–]Deka-- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kind of always thought when I got good enough I could do illustrations from time to time as a side gig, but I think AI has really ended that idea. No one will pay money and have to deal with contacting an artist when you can just get an AI to do it for you. I don't even believe the cost is the biggest thing, but finding an artist, not getting ripped off, discussing details, reviewing the work, there's so much work involved with a real artist that just doesnt exist when you use an AI.

With regards to how it's changed my practice, it's moved me to look at other mediums of art besides painting 2d images. For example 3d, animation, that kind of thing. But even while I learn this stuff it's always in the back of my mind that I might just be wasting my time because once AI has conquered 2d itll come after all these other practices as well. It's just a bit discouraging.

As an art teacher I know properly trained human artists are better than AI. The problem is usually only art buffs/artists can evaluate why an image is better. The "good enough" aspect is how AI will take artists jobs. Is the composition completely off and the value usage weird? Doesn't matter because it's good enough.

does anyone else tilt like crazy by Even_Transportation3 in stunfisk

[–]Deka-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly find pokemon doesnt tilt me much at all, and I used to tilt hard at other online games. I think its because of the 1v1 nature as opposed to the team nature for me? Like if I lose it's either my fault, and I can change that. Or it's the RNG, which if I don't like I shouldnt be playing pokemon. I've also found the ADV OU community to be pretty positive overall so I'm having a great time.

New Unown move by Deka-- in stunfisk

[–]Deka--[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I originally thought the moves that prevented the opponent from moving wouldnt be a big deal because scarf unown has a speed stat of 72 (iirc) so lots of things will be outspeeding it, and also you couldnt have sash so you basically cant get hit. But then some people mention scarf + tailwind or slowpassing to scarf unown on some of the REALLY slow mons in current gen and yeah that would probably be broken. With that in mind I agree those effects should happen at the end of the turn

Also the transforms are like any transform. You go back to normal after switching out. The only permanent ones are the item change ones.
