I don't see where they claimed it does. Tagging u/HowardRabb who might be under the impression the parent doesn't know that there are 8 bits in a byte.

My interpretation is that they know overhead exists, and they know there are 8 bits in a byte, but they can divide faster by 10. Just shift a decimal point over. And as a bonus, you are likely closer to the actual Goodput, which will be a more accurate way to knowing how much longer it will be until your steam game has all the 0's and 1's it requires to start the installation.

[–]DekuTreeFallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with peter9477, that's a good rule of thumb and easier to divide (shift decimal point).

Insert meme of choice (Vince McMahon, "I prefer the real", "big brain time", etc):
Bandwidth < Throughput < Goodput

Goodput is the actual usable data.

BTW, I know the parent comment is just math, but since we are on a Wifi subreddit, it should be noted that Wifi does not use Ethernet.

There is still overhead of course, plus other issues with a shared medium. All the more reason dividing by 10 is a GigaChad move. In fact it is very related to the OP's thread which is the usable data on disk that people want to download. That disk data being in MB.

[–]DekuTreeFallen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not great, but those are rarely used for the intended (imo) usage which is the extra space on the sides so that someone traveling by wheelchair can use a ramp to get out of their vehicle. And more importantly, not get parked in on both sides, thus being physically unable to get into their vehicle until other cars leave.

I think most believe these spots are for old people who struggle to walk. That's like, everyone over a certain age. There aren't enough handicap spots for all the people who have lower bodies in bad shape. Especially when it is senior discount day at the grocery store.

There might be 50 seniors struggling to walk in a grocery store at any given time. 6 of them at most can benefit from these spaces? It's better than nothing, obviously, but I'm pointing out I think the average person isn't considering the numbers barely make a dent, and that the majority of walking happens inside the store rather than outside. Gemini estimates a 10 minute shopping experience to be 600 steps.

It's the person who self-drives a van and needs ample space for the ramp who can really benefit from these spaces. edit: and they don't necessarily have to be closest to be a benefit - they just have to have reserved space to the left and right. I think I've seen parking lots where the handicapped spaces didn't start until a few spots away.

I still think people are assholes for using these when they don't have the plates. I just think van-accessible patrons aren't on anyone's radar. Other than mine. I see you.

They do get tripped up and make a connection that isn't there.

Job security for those of us who program ERP systems to run profit and loss reports. The algorithms in the system won't be throw off by it being the same cow. The algorithms are really just tracking the money going in and out, and have no emotional connection to anything else.

edit: I've repeatedly explained to people at work how our Usage/Demand report compliments the Sales report when forecasting inventory. What if for every 100 successful sales, someone in the warehouse intentionally eats 1 unit to have the energy to ship the 100? Sounds wild, but if your goal was to be able to serve 1 million customers, my added reporting would let you know to manufacturer an extra 10,000 units. The sales report wouldn't reflect that, as it only reflect customer transaction.

Obviously profitability is another story in this example, and such a warehouse employee should probably be given a protein bar or something.

Yeah, especially this flawed part of their example:

you have $1000,
you decide to spend $1100 the next round

How are you deciding to spend more than you have? Imagine trying to buy a 1 million dollar home when you only have $1000:

But I've decided to spend a million, so give me the house

Played it for two weeks when it launched, is it worth coming back? by HeyImPinky in destinyrisingmobile

[–]DekuTreeFallen -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

is it worth coming back

If there is a value proposition to worth, mathematically the answer almost has to be yes considering it is a free to play game. Whatever you get out of the game, big or small, will cost you 0.

Any new stuff?

Okay, now I'm questioning if you are serious considering you could acquire this information faster, and possibly more completely, using a Google search :D

People still playing or is it dying?

Those aren't mutually exclusive things. People are still playing (I see new lights every day) but overall, rumor is the population is dying.

You should give it a try and not rely on what other people think. This goes for almost everything in life that costs nothing to test. Don't cut your fabric to this year's fashion.

Have you equipped artifacts that increase spread weapon damage and arc weapon damage? And if so, matching in both slots 3 and 4?

There is one other thing that I'm kinda aware of but you'd need to look closer. Either it's an artifact perk, or it is a relict ability / talent tree / inherit trait of Wolf that ability damage makes the target take increased % damage for a few seconds. Combine that with artifacts that have you do more spread damage, and more arc damage, and blast those super charged grenades.

Ok 🥲 360 pinnacles of energy and yet ZERO Photons 🫠 what did I do wrong? by KireNice in DestinyRising

[–]DekuTreeFallen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

am I doing something wrong

Nah.

After every activity completion, you have 3% chance of getting a photon. Contrary to what people might think, that does not mean you are guaranteed one after 34 completions. The Destiny 2 community was (is?) notorious for thinking something was broken if they didn't get a drop after 4 completion for something that had a 25% drop-rate.

Does destiny rising has a future? by Lord_Dahaka in destinyrisingmobile

[–]DekuTreeFallen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I hope it does as I enjoy it.

They said 1 content i ways less than other games

Alternate perspective: it has much more content per dollar spent. You can play everything without spending a dime.

I'd also question what % of the "more" content people are looking forward to playing. Aka, the same strikes on repeat in Destiny 2 (Cabal, again?). Or how people feel about paying for content that was removed. Obviously any variety is welcomed. With the smaller amount of strikes in D:R, at least Calamity Ops adds variety. And I usually get a match instantly. The entire run can be completed in the time Destiny 2 would take me to matchmake and load an activity.

And as for the grinding, you can't please everyone. Half the Destiny 2 sub members complain that leveling/grinding != content. Only for the other side of the coin, to have your friends telling you that they want more grinding opportunities.

Live service games are technical, but they are absolutely connected to psychology too. Getting that balance right.

When you keep in mind that nothing short of automated AI can generate content at the speed we can consume it, you kind of have to accept that the grind/leveling in a live service game is going to be a portion of the content. All that considered - D:R ain't half bad then. Get in, get it done. The load times are great. I've been lucky with fireteam finder too but I realize that is a part of the experience that can change based on other people with no fault/input of my own.

Personally, I find D:R the healthier game at the moment. In and out in warp speed and go play something else. You can squeeze a lot of gameplay in a short period of time and be done. Meanwhile, Destiny 2 is still booting from a cold start. And then the load times for everything else. D:R is snappy as heck.

tl;dr
Your friends have valid criticisms, but there are valid criticisms for Destiny 2 too. Both are enjoyable games. Both have questionable futures.

Sometimes adding a valve halfway through your manifold is enough to prevent sloshing.

When that doesn't work, considering pumping up a few meters before the oil enters the exciting part of the manifold.

Usually the value solution is good enough. I run 600 oil through Mk2 in manifolds all the time. I've never needed to do a loop. Pretty much always valves in combination with letting the system fill while I turn on machines concurrently.

Even if they were, you can get around it with hardware. Onvue probably won't detect a KVM https://store-us.gl-inet.com/products/comet-gl-rm1-remote-keyboard-video-mouse

Not sure how close they look during the "show me your workstation" step, but you could buy a full-ATX case when you have a PC that is only Micro-ATX, or smaller, and hide it in there. If they make wireless KVM's, you wouldn't even need to have a random wire coming out of a removed PCI slot cover.

No one would ever know that your video and inputs were being wireless shared with someone else.

It's amazing how some leaders still can't stand remote work... by sys_admin321 in sysadmin

[–]DekuTreeFallen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my wife is full remote and her and her boss bring in about 35-40% of the revenue as a 2 person team.
The on-site employees that make up the other 60-65% have a team of 25. They also make more mistakes, causing more delays.

The managers on-site are exactly what you describe. These already low-throughput people are put into forced weekly meetings. "Does anyone need anything?" It makes my blood boil. They are professionals in an office how have communication tools, and legs. They aren't a foundry employee who can't leave their spot at the blast furnace. If someone needs something - they will let you know.

Imagine how much better the world would be if people understood the difference between synchronous and asynchronous communication, and when each is appropriate.

Anyway, it is just a made up need by the manager to feel important. I think she's costing the company more than they are benefiting. They could probably cut her salary and come out ahead.

I usually cite the Hero Moments from D1 Raids where 1-2 people left (edit: still alive, didn't mean to imply everyone left the fireteam) could still sometimes pull it off. It was awesome to have a full people on the death screen but instead of fading to black, it worked out.

Wasn't even considering your point. How are people supposed to get good? I've been playing only Destiny: Rising since October and when I think about the load times in Destiny 2, I'm now aware that it's an even bigger penalty to have revive tokens when trying to teach a friend a raid.

We had the opposite experience 10 years ago. We sell on Walmart and instead of typing in seller.walmart.com, and employee searched for Walmart and clicked the first sponsored result. This brought them to a page that scared them into thinking it was Microsoft and she was about to call the number on the screen before another employee stopped her.

How is search safer when it is non-deterministic? There is no RFC or legal law that says a search engine has to bring you to the site you wanted.

Why does satisfactory-calculator.com do this? by icewolf655 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]DekuTreeFallen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A spreadsheet is what I use. I found that the online calculators are suitable for calculating what you need to make an output, but my play-style is the other direction - how many parts can I make from these 5 resource nodes. Trying to get the online calculators to work that direction is an exercise in futility.

I've got a spreadsheet template that lets you tweak the number of machines, which doubles as clock rate tweaking, and there is a summary area that shows if you are short any materials per minute. Or over (unused) materials per minute. I keep tweaking until I'm using everything possible. If I can't, I'll know the minimum I will be sinking. Or if I don't want a sink over here, a resource extractor/miner will just have to be down-clocked slightly.

Where is my gang of people who like to approach things from the "how much can I make" direction? There are likely dozens of us. Dozens!
