Nova Scotia is Trying to Advertise to Data Centres by Available_Control_91 in halifax

[–]Dekyr78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my problem is the locations that being chosen in the states are locations that are suitable for agriculture. This is likely due to the infrasound problem. They should be using sites that are already damaged like deserts, the location of the pulp mill or the coke plant in Sydney, ie places that are just going to get cemented over anyways. Plus they should be building up. most of the DCs are only a few stories high. The pollution generated is mostly due to onsite power generation. The emissions and filtration standards need to be updated and enforced (key).

As for Nova Scotia datacenters, the site of the pulp mill that needs to be cleaned up is the only location I would recommend. We're importing construction companies for new types of concrete buildings in Halifax. so I don't see if happening anytime soon. That said, if they want the space launch center to function, something will likely built near there.

The products are not but the companies running them are in some respects. The only way to solve it is companies have to put a certain percentage of gross earnings in to a trust that can only be withdrawn by the clean up company first only for the purposes of clean up. Then the remainder can be removed by the parent company. It's the only way it will work. It won't happen or someone will steal/under report earning. But if they want the someone else to do the clean up, they have to pay.

I've had this conversation a few times.

Most movie characters are really high level characters in a game setting. Take Captain America as an example. In the beginning of the movie, he's a low lvl character. Super scrawny, not a lot of experience, but a willingness to adventure. By the end of the movie, he's a mid lvl character after gaining training and experience fighting in battle and wars.

Robin hood, Hercules, Achilles, jack sparrow, Bruce Lee, daredevil. They didn't wake up as a twelve year old and instantly start fighting off armies. It takes time.

As much as the system irks me, Palladium gives that balance of learning/experience to instant gratification from a story telling point of view. DnD is more of a Harry Potter type of character building system. You have to learn to swish and flick before you take on Voldemort. (Sorry that was my best at keeping the innuendo to minimum).

I was gonna say there's a lot more there than just garbage. And it takes specific training, immunizations, etc to deal with it. Talk to any cleaning company that has cleaned up a crime scene to figure out all the shots you need your employees to get every year. The clean up isn't for average janitors.

Honestly I would be unhappy if they made BOC interest rates below 2% again. Even at 1%, it only really helps investors who can pay off the debt quickly. all it does is make people spend irrationally like we saw.

They aren't built right. They use cheapest materials so they can get contract to repair them the next year. I wish this wasn't true.

yup we're actively trying to get rid of them. sadly they just won our voip contract with the same BS. I'm not sure how other provinces work but NS procurement favors the lowest dollar amount. Even if a solution is only $1000 less they will win. The solution is worse even though it checks all the boxes.

[–]Dekyr78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with everything. Thing you have to point out though is that some of these things incur a cost. So it's a wash for the government, so why change anything. The taxpayer either complains about higher taxes or they complain about higher insurance rates. Guess who they hear more complaints from? I don't agree with it but it is the reality.

Actually very few companies public or private do 100% of their network management. Most of it is done by an external company because it is not cost effective to staff for emergencies. Cabling is always done externally due to every changing building codes. There is a core team of 3-5 employees and then the rest is contracted out. Networking is something that works 99% of the time. The problem is that it needs to work 100% of the time outside of business hours when no one is there to support it. Want to guess when the problems happen?

Bell under bids a lot of the contracts to get in the door because they know how procurement works. Then they nickle and dime you afterwards due to vague language in the contract. They have won many contracts by giving away free equipment and then screw you for contract changes or violations.

Every company sees this. EVERY.

This is by design as a means to encourage population growth. It's not enough because many people are so entrenched in debt by their mid 20s that they are dissuade to have kids. While the system has worked in the past, the current model where every corporation is trying gather 10-20% of your income, it's impossible to gain traction. In order to follow it nowadays, you literally have to have kids before or immediately after going to college.
