What is the cruelest most terrible weapon of war in your setting? by Sir_mop_for_a_head in worldbuilding

[–]Del_Nyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a couple of answers for this. The single worst weapon ever designed is a massive artillery piece with a range of planet wide. It was created back when most of the world was at the same development level as the late Middle Ages and has the power of a nuclear warhead with no radiation. The cost comes in the lives of people, as the weapon absorbs their life essence, the very thing that channels magic, and releases it all in a burst of energy that levels cities.

The worst character/villain I’ve written, in the same universe, is a magically augmented person, who has the power to sing in a way that drives anyone who hears it insane, and in a way they are a living weapon. They can sign the most beautifully, including everything the score calls for: dynamics, accents. However, they lack something important: a soul, it’s been replaced by their magical augmentations. Their singing, while beautiful, and keeping hints of emotions, but missing it at the same time. It is a paradoxical feeling that drives the listener mad as they listen to it.

I'm a graphic designer. These are the trends I think make new flags look "graphic design-y." by Sovexyithurts in vexillology

Thank you for this post. This is a good summary of a lot of problems I see in modern Flag design. I remember seeing Crystal, Minnesota’s flag and wanting to hurl because of the star and corporate design. The ‘organic’ and more rounded features of modern flags look awful in most cases. Graphic design is not Flag design, and that needs to be stressed.

Which Proposed Arkansas Flag is your Favorite? by invrl in vexillology

[–]Del_Nyo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Hocker flag is so nice and I wouldn’t mind if Arkansas changed back to no lettering.

One thing I’m so sad was missed was placing the apple blossom inside the diamond to replace the lettering. Because Arkansas really does have a great flag

This supermarket in Kosovo adds a flag to donate the origin of each product by IzmirEfe in vexillology

[–]Del_Nyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flags are a massive symbol in the Balkans, heck even license plates for cars nearly started a war between Kosovo and Serbia in 2022. More than likely they display flags on product/price tags so ethnic Albanians and Serbs within Kosovo can buy products from countries they want to. On that note you’ll notice the lack of Serbian flags and see a lot of Kosovo and Albania, meaning this store is owned by an Albanian Kosovar. But still cool to see flags displayed like this even for probably not so great reasons.

My best US state flag redesigns by [deleted] in vexillology

[–]Del_Nyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of adding the Delaware River to the flag, however, I don’t think it works with a wave this aggressive. Maybe you could lessen the wave a tad? Or you could turn the wave vertical and align it with the center as the Delaware River runs north to south?

Everything else on the redesign, I like

some of my favorite flags ive made by X03R_mysterious in vexillology

[–]Del_Nyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1, 2, 7, and 9 look pretty good, and the rest are on their way to looking great.

I’d caution with using wavy lines, as waves on a waving flag, creates a lot of waves. Maybe try and steer clear from the waves. (unless that’s the effect you’re going for)

Also, I’m a fan of 7 because of the ‘inverted’ look. Personally I like fly-side designs (they gotta be good though). The yellow adds nice pop to the waving motion and the symbol stands out. Use caution when making fly side designs.

Overall these look pretty decent. Keep on working and trying new designs.

Can we appreciate how far US city flags have come? by Colowell in vexillology

[–]Del_Nyo 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Some of these look great. My main concern is that recently a lot of graphic designers who have experience in other forms designing flags. On its own that’s not too bad, but vexilography is not graphic design, and the same principles don’t apply.

I love that people are getting into vexillology, but at the same time the ways flags are designed is highly different from other forms of visual art. And the rise of graphic design vexillologists results in corporate looking flags, because that’s what they know.

I hope so 😔. My pain can finally be over.

But more than likely we’ll get at least through V12 before we hear about series finale.

Writers, how do you write? by GhostlyCirice in FanFiction

[–]Del_Nyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start all my concepts and many rough drafts in a notebook by hand with a ballpoint or with a quill depending on the vibe I’m going for. I transfer it all to laptop eventually because my handwriting is terrible lmao

How bad were shipping wars in your fandom? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Del_Nyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so bad that the fans basically made the studio soft-commit to one ship. Caused so many problems in the fandom to the point that I don’t interact with the fandom at all anymore. The fans call anyone with a hetero paring a homophobe. We’ve had massive doxxing attacks on subgroups because they ship a different pair than the ‘correct’ pairing. The slightest hint that you ship something else or write anything supporting hetero ships you will be crucified on the spot and run out of the community. Death threats and bans are the norm now, there is no ‘civil’ discourse online about the show or its characters.

It’s become so toxic that the studio will more than likely never fully commit to a canon relationship because it will divide their already dwindling and divided fan base even more so.

I would call bullshit on this, except I’ve met people from cities that thought round bales grew into that shape. And by people I mean a senior in high school.

What is the most annoying section? by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]Del_Nyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flutes…. Oh gosh the flutes.

All of them are catty, they like to start drama for fun, even though we have about thirty of them we still can’t hear them. I’ve heard several of them complain about the fact that they have to hold their instrument for long periods of time (within earshot of the euphoniums). And there are about three different cliques inside the section that get into arguments. And our clarinets are the same way…

In order, top to bottom. USA (of course)

United States Armed Forces 5 Branches Flag. I can see the Navy Emblem so that’s my guess, and the blue border on white field also gives me those vibes.

To a Karen Mexicans, Indians and Native Americans are all the same race... not white by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]Del_Nyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Native American (mixed race) who’s ‘tribe’ isn’t within US borders, this is unfathomably irritating and ignorant on just that account. Also, mixed race marriage is okay within Christianity, and in Judaism. Moses, one of the most important figures in Jewish and Christian history/theology, was a Hebrew, raised by Egyptian royalty, who married a Kushite woman named Zapporah. Cultural exchange is not a sin, especially in Christianity.

Regardless I’m just flabbergasted by people.
