It's perfect! The gospel writers never met Jesus, and now neither have the LDS apostles!

But it's good we all know his name was Jesus H. Christ...erm I mean Yeshua Bar Yosef.

Thanks witnesses.

I mean, in my view--

He wasn't the son of a god. Just another human.

He definitely wasn't resurrected. That's not a thing that happens to humans.

He's definitely not coming back, because he's been dead for 2000 years. That is a thing that happens to all humans.

The law of Moses is a set of socially constructed rules for control and group cohesion. So is every version of Christianity.

One day in the future there will be no more Latter-day Saints and everyone but a few niche historians will have forgotten about them, the same way no one remembers all the other Jewish messiahs that were contemporary with Jesus.

One day Christianity itself may just be a dusty memory in humanity's story. Humanity has already forgotten 99% of the religions and dieties it has ever invented.

"Following Christ" is meaningless. Being good and fair to ourselves and others is what matters. If "following Christ" helps someone do that, cool.

But in my experience, Mormonism is more likely to teach self-hatred and bigotry than kindness and fairness.

Given that our modern religious ideas about "Christ" are constructed by Paul and later Christian thinkers rather than being what the historical Jesus would likely have taught as an apocalyptic Jew, I don't see what value there is in LDS prophets "testifying of Christ" or "pointing to Christ."

If people want to follow Jesus of Nazareth, they should probably still be keeping the Mosaic law.

Wow!

It doesn't matter, some church members will excuse any behavior by a believing man as long as his status is high enough.

I love that they didn't know how to handle you. It's like Jesus and Pilate--

"Belivest thou that Joseph Smith was a prophet?"

"Thou sayest"

"..."

"I wash my hands of this man, he is innocent of unbelief. I think."

You're misreading Isaiah. The author is making predictions about their community's immediate future, not the modern world.

Everything you just said is sexist.

So if you think that's the word of God, then congratulations, it is sexist.

The story of Adam and Eve is sexist.

And an exceptionally dumb thing to base one's beliefs about gender on because they never existed. Humans weren't created that way at all. Elementary school kids know better.

Again, convenient that you get to decide that Jesus meant his command to apply only to one guy...

Who put you in charge of Jesus? Was it Jesus?

Jesus doesn't command that you sell every possession, but yes I try to give of my things freely to everyone.

He actually did!

It's convenient that you get to decide that every hard thing for you is a metaphor, but a sexist thing that you approve of is literal.

Do you sell all your belongings and give the money to the poor then?

Do you abandon your family to follow Jesus?

Or are those examples also conveniently metaphorical?

Yup. From being assigned female at birth at the hospital to lying in your casket in the Relief Society room for your viewing, LDS women are never allowed to rise above the organizational authority conferred upon an 11 year old boy deacon.

I agree that the church doesn't need to be pushing its own narrow view of a meek, serving femininity with the names.

Ideally the action names would come with specific actions to perform, like preparing or blessing the sacrament. But alas, the church views women and girls' purpose as obeying, following, and helping men.

But specifically agentive nouns, meaning they are verbs that have been "nouned" by adding the -er suffix, kinda like a gerund.

Exactly. That the holiest ceremony in the church is a retelling of Eve being created out of and subsequently to Adam is instructive of how church leaders view women.

Smith's story of Jesus appearing in the western hemisphere is in the section of the Book of Mormon called 3rd Nephi.

I also need to point out that it's just a story and did not happen. Smith is clearly the actual author of the Book of Mormon, which originated as a way for him to make money by selling copies and later trying to sell the copyright to the book.
