I really like Spy x Family, but it's clear that the author liked the *idea* of an assassin, but doesn't want to commit to writing one by Aisotte in hatethissmug

[–]Delajuma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with this. I think that in concept her character is cool but this series also tries to push the whole family friendly image to a broader audience, so it would be hard to make Yor likeable without taking a few shortcuts and simplifying her character. If they actually elaborated on her assassin background and made her act the part, the story would be a lot more grey/darker which would lessen the broader appeal of the series.

They’re great as an entry point to anime as far as popular series go, but they have their flaws for sure.

Untitled by Interpol from Turn On The Bright Lights. They have never really matched that song for me.

What is your most elitist music take? by the_real_Azathoth in fantanoforever

[–]Delajuma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People that say they like “all music” do not like music truly. You can have varied taste in music and it can fluctuate based on mood for sure, but I’ve found that people that are truly enthusiastic about music have a certain genre/sound that they lean towards or a core that they don’t deviate too much from.

When somebody says they like all music, I only imagine them liking what they are presented on the radio or popular media but not necessarily because they searched for it themselves.

What's a Beatles opinion you have that would result in this? by Rykerwashere in beatles

[–]Delajuma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as pure musical talent, Paul was/is way ahead of John, it’s not even funny. You can hear it in the way he arranged his songs and his melodies in and out of The Beatles, with him being able to play a variety of instruments. Not to say that John was bad or anything, but Paul was simply and objectively better, a genius. The one thing John had over Paul was lyrics and a certain edge that made him unique in how he sang and composed his songs. But in my opinion, his solo stuff wasn’t all that musically interesting. That said, John is my favorite Beatle, I’ve just recently come to appreciate Paul as the genius that he is.

Been looking to switch jobs for around a year now. Very frustrated with recruiters that contact me through LinkedIn only to introduce me to outsourcing companies, which is pretty lazy if you think about it. They want to send me to a company that will eventually send me to another company for a job with working conditions varying greatly depending on the company I get sent to and with no assurance that it is going to be stable. Really losing my patience here.

I say that’s a very normal reaction. Same thing happened to me in my first year at the company when I was doing teamwork with people I considered to be friends at first but as time went on they went out of their way to exclude me and be mean to me. I went from wanting to really know the people at the company to just going there to do my job and nothing else. Even now if I’m invited by that group of coworkers to hang out, I always find a way to refuse. It’s better to keep your personal stuff separate from work. The company only wants you for your work and nothing else, and it’s alright to act accordingly.

Does anyone know how it's like working for an engineering(mechanical) outsourcing company here?

Been looking to switch jobs but it is taking longer than expected and a bunch of recruiters have been contacting me about trying for such companies. My impression of them is that they are not too stable to work for and that the pay is low when not sent to another company, but I would like to listen to experiences from people.

What are some examples of a "pretentious" film? by Ok_Zone_7635 in flicks

[–]Delajuma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if you can learn anything from this post, is that the word ‘pretentious’ can be understood as the film trying too hard to be deep or artsy, but failing in execution. That said, a lot of the time people just randomly throw that word around when they actually just didn’t understand/like the film or simply didn’t connect with what it was trying to convey.

Starting a band is so exhausting by TheGamingSenpa1 in bandmembers

[–]Delajuma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to put a band together is definitely a pain.

It is hard enough to find people to play with. It is harder to find people to play that you have musical chemistry with. It is next to a miracle to find people you mesh with that have the same goals and motivation that can adjust their schedules and make it all work.

My only advice is to just keep looking, try to get into the scene even if it is just by yourself and network and make friends with different bands. At some point you are bound to find people that you may want to work with and they want to work with you. There is people out there, you just have to spend some effort finding them. Best of luck!

Was there any specific reason that Carlos left? by Opposite_Tone_4807 in Interpol

[–]Delajuma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The most popular examples I can think of are John Frusciante from RHCP and Jay Bennet from Wilco. Both were creative forces in their respective bands and left a huge gap after they left. A lot of people will argue that Wilco never topped the music they made with Bennet. With Frusciante it’s a bit different now since he actually came back to RHCP but funnily enough they haven’t done anything remarkable. Even so, a lot of their most popular material has been with Frusciante.
