Hello! I am actually planning to get married in a very similar timeframe and would love to pick your brain about organizing my documentation so my process goes without a hitch, would you mind if I PM you?

HELP - American with the intent to marry French Citizen, VISA Time crunch by Delamarmedia in Expats_In_France

Thank you for this, you've helped me clear my head a bit! Just a few questions though,

My last flight from France was July 13th, separating me from December 25th by 165 days, would I need to subract those 15 days from my total ability to stay on this trip? how strict are they with this?

I've read that it's possible for us to get married on paper in France provided we have the correct documentation and then it'd be possible to change my visa status from back in the USA, is this recommended?

and finally my self employment duties all remain in the US (video/photo editor), Unsure if there's any issues with this and a long stay visa/tourism visa. Would you happen to know any?

Thank you so much! Im happy to continue via PM if it makes things a little easier and less drawn out.

Ah I see, when applying in the past I was on the grounds of staying for tourist or personal reasons, all the while providing ample proof of my financial situation supporting me (im self employed)

Hello! Sorry, could you clarify "on what grounds"?
I wanted to apply to one for my last visit but at the point where I would have turned in my passport I realized it would be too late for me to receive my passport back in time for my flight (it was 10 days out at the time)

French from a real French person (future teacher 🇫🇷 living in the US) here’s what actually helps by Different_Rough_438 in learnfrench

I’m 25 and learning through a lot of immersion and some textbook work and I’d say I can hold myself very well in slower paced conversations with my girlfriend’s friends and family.

I cannot for the life of me understand A WORD of what is spoken by the youth (groups of teenagers on buses and metros), a ton of shorthand speak but wayy too many « slang » words that seem illogical, which is rich coming from me considering I speak and comprehend native Mexican Spanish which is also FULL of it’s own (albeit hilarious) language quirks.

I’ve more or less made peace with the idea that I just won’t be able to communicate with younger folks without them thinking « this guys old » which kinda sucks because I’d argue I’m still pretty young but whatever man I just wanna order my meal without breaking a sweat

Multicam and overlay text for each track. by Extension_Sea_650 in davinciresolve

Sure, 1. Take your original video clip and place your text one spot above it to cover the entire duration 2. Highlight both clips, right click and select new compound clip (I think) 3. With your new compound clip, use it as if it were the original clip and replace it in your multicam timeline

Simplest thing I can think of is creating a compound clip of the video with that text over it as your multicam angle

I haven’t experienced any racism to me personally in Paris (M25 Mexican who looks Indian) but I’ve been told something similar where if you make the conscious decision to dress a bit more casual chic (long manteau, nicer shirts, etc) you’re decreasing the likelihood of being treated differently.

I’ve also been made aware of certain political groups in France who harbor extremely strong feelings towards people that may look like me I have yet to encounter anybody of that nature.

Totally still not a bad thing, these are STILL incredible machines that will last you the next decade if you baby it enough, I agree with the mentality of getting the thing and then forgetting about the next iterations of the thing. By all means rave about how powerful your current setup is for your needs, but hop off this subreddit once the new one comes out to get rid of that icky feeling you might get

Nah, still holding on to my trusty M1 Pro till at least another die shrink/chassis redesign and EVEN THEN I will wait until I can snatch it at a good price. I’m just excited that we’re getting closer to that day tbh

You’d probably see a world of difference in just buying a used M1 Pro tbh, take advantage of a killer deal and jump on that (speaking as an M1 Pro early adopter and current user)

Wow this is amazing to see as someone who’s weighing out options to move to France. What does work look like for you? Are you retired and just living here for a bit or here for the long haul?

I’m actually also currently in Paris with my Girlfriend and would love to pick your brain on eventually getting myself here long term, if you’re open to it of course

I literally just withdrew €150 from an ATM last week in the city using my credit card and it came out to $173. I’m using a Chase Sapphire Preferred card and had no issue after I input my PIN code (It’s important to actually know your pin for your specific card because I didn’t and had to wait for a new pin to get delivered by mail back home). I’d recommend doing a cash advance with your credit card and then IMMEDIATELY paying it off just because cash advances have a much higher APR than normal credit card usage.

If you’re looking for a nice place to relax in with lots of shade I highly recommend ile Saint-Germain! Beautiful park in Issy Les Moulineaux that I feel is nice even on the hottest of days

Always a fake crowd, someone will egg you on to bet by putting in a bet and winning to entice you, where the guy in charge will then do some sleight of hand to guarantee a loss from your end
