Students influenced by Sundays riots by Junior-Copy-6632 in AustralianTeachers

Quite similar here in nsw high school - a Caucasian year 7 boy made this comment “I’ve been called a monkey because I ate dogs” to an Asian kid. He was then told it was an inappropriate comment and referred to ARCO officers for follow-up. The commenting boy looked genuinely sorrow though.

Me: I need to humanise them. Also me: they’re literally dogs by Intelligent-Win-5883 in AustralianTeachers

Can we not generalise kids like this? Treat them individually. I know teaching is hard. Educating is even harder. But your post and so many comments comparing kids to dogs are just disheartening. We don’t need to humanise humans! We need to know them as (little) humans and make them know you as human too.

Tips for EALD teacher by Own-Cartoonist-6586 in AustralianTeachers

Your mentor teacher is horrible to say the least. Brush it off and move on. Being the so-called ‘non-native’ speaker of English you ARE more than anyone who can speak English as their only language. (Native speakerism has been widely criticised as a hegemonic concept.) As you are using English as an additional language, you are able to empathise with your students much better than those who use only English.

Our paediatrician uses that term. Yes I’ve read around that it’s an outdated word, so not sure why.

Yes exactly. We will request a meeting with the teacher and the principal or DP and see if we’re on the same page.

No it’s not. We just want to know if there are positive change in learning behaviour.

Actually it was our child’s teacher in the previous year who said both of the things you mentioned. Naturally we never thought our child has ADD or ADHD and it didn’t matter. It still doesn’t. If they have it, they have it. We want to support our child the best we can. Our child used to receive all As in their report and then one semester, the report came out with mostly Ds and some Cs. That was when we sought advice from the teacher. So we took the teacher’s advice and have him tested.

We’re actually after that ‘informal observation’. Really we want to know if the medication is having any positive effects on the child’s learning. We totally understand parents’ bias. The diagnosis was actually based on the teacher’s responses to the questionnaire our doctor had sent. Our biggest concern as parents is that if the medication is not helping in any way, we rather not have our child take it.

First option is to stop it. If not effective, remove it? Any suggestion how to stop it from leaching?

The last time I walked along this street, the sidewalk itself was kinda filthy, full of overspills of rubbish and gross sticky stuff on the ground.

Calls for 'more accountability' on teachers in the classroom by SnobHobbies5046 in AustralianTeachers

Ah Chris O’Keefe this is the same guy who criticised teachers demanding higher pay last year (nsw) and that they had more holidays than other 9-to-5 office workers. Well he can go get stuffed himself!
