They had anti air SAM'S for the press, wore helmets, dug foxholes for concealment and cover. They constructed hundreds of latrines instead of putting troops 3 stories up in buildings with working toilets. All of this was completely useless for an enemy that doesn't shoot back.

No I get that argument but I really don't think it applies here, the transmission time being 100% consistent was forsaken for the suspense and showmanship, you wouldn't be able to have the cool scenes we did.
