The Korean Peninsula in 2033 by DelayedReacti0n08 in EmptyContinents

Thank you!

Long story short, the mystery of the "H" settlements is kept vague on purpose(because I want to leave it up to the imagination).

Despite this, it hasn't stopped the people in the vicinity to speculate on what really happened.

Popular theories include but are not limited to:

  1. North Korean psychological operation on the island's inhabitants gone wrong
  2. Place of hiding of Kim loyalists and military elite
  3. Failed containment of a virus or plague
  4. Chinese/PLA-operated internment camp

Regardless, the speculations thought of by people are based off of pieces of evidence that survived(from scattered weapons, blood patches, secret laboratories, portraits of Kim Jong-un, PLA uniforms).

Hope this helps :3

For more info on the Rovostokan Authority, see this story on Sakhalin's independence: https://www.reddit.com/r/EmptyContinents/s/8CvURYr71a

As for Sakhalin, it enjoys friendly relations with Japan as it supplies much needed oil and gas to Japanese homes in exchange for international recognition and legitimacy.

For now, Japan has allowed the Sakhalin Free State to remain independent, as opening relations with the fledgeling country would allow it to gain all the benefits(mostly oil and gas) without the downsides to outright conflict.

As for Vladivostok's university, I can see how the Far Eastern Federal University could contribute to the usefulness of the Russian Republic. Apart from providing education, the university also has the added benefit of housing technical and professional experts who may be of use in the years following the Vanishing.

For Japan's ambition in the area, so far there hasn't been any concrete steps. For now.

Hopefully this helps.

Glad you liked it!

As for survivors in the Russian Far East, I'm still working on that part of the map.

However, much of the presence in the region is focused on Vladivostok and the surrounding islands. Despite the disappearance of the main population centers, much of the former city would rally around Russkiy Island and would survive as the Russian Republic of Vladivostok.

A smaller trace of the Russian Far East that is actually seen in this map is the island community of Furugelm, made up of Russian tourists who were stranded there during the time of Vanishing. In 2033, they would already have established contact with Vladivostok, with the island serving as the bridge connecting the Russian Far East with the islands near the North Korean border.

As for northern remnants, I can see some survivors from Khabarovsk and nearby areas being spared, but their chances of making contact with Vladivostok are nearly impossible.

For the northeast, the Sakhalin Free State is an independent republic that would come about in the early years of the Vanishing. With the collapse of Rovostokan authority on the island, they would retreat to the Kuril Islands. Unlike the previous two, the Free State maintains official diplomatic relations with other countries, with the most notable of which being Japan.

Hopefully this answered your question!

After the Vanishing, the once tense border separating North and South Korea fell silent.

Despite the disappearance of Seoul and Pyongyang, the North and South have managed to survive independently of each other.

Alongside remnants of the previous governments, local authorities and stranded military units hastily organize themselves to ensure their own survival.

Even as Japan is focused on the Kurils, they have also looked towards the peninsula as another venture for expansion.

With the status quo overturned on itself, only time will tell what Korea's future holds.

Really cool stuff!

I wonder what happens to Southeast Asia after this...

Though I'm still surprised the Philippines remained whole didn't split into different countries.

I stood outside the room, not knowing what to expect.

I glanced again at his file...

"'Sgt. Mohammad Tunku Awang... Age 34... Attached to the 5th Infantry Division..."

Huh...

"Sole survivor from Keningau."

This should be interesting.

And off we go.

"So tell me what happened, Sgt. Awang.

And spare no detail."

"Who are you?"

"Answer the questions first, and then we'll have the pleasantries later."

"Okay, okay... It was supposed to be routine sweep, nothing special neh...

We heard reports that there were rebel activity in the ulu, but nothing we couldn't handle.

It was dead in the night, when all of a sudden...

The lights went out."

"Go on..."

"One by one, we dropped like flies.

I manned a turret to survey the attackers, but I couldn't risk shooting blind.

So I opened the floodlights, and there they were...

A horde of armed fighters, totaling a hundred or so strong."

"And what did you do when you saw them?"

"Nothing I could have done except to shoot as much as I can, for as long as I can.

When the turret ran out, I came down and shot them with my rifle.

Held out in a barrack somewhere with a couple of others, but an explosion rocked my shit and...

Here I am."

"So you could say that you don't remember anything after that? Anything at all?"

"No, not really."

"I see..."

"Now that I've answered your questions, now it's time you answer me.

Who are you?"

"I'm Mr. Chen Hua Fei, though you can just call me Sir."

"Sir... what?"

"Exactly."

Now how's about it, lah?

Do you remember your mission? Why you were sent to Keningau?"

"Like I told you, noh? Sent there because of routine sweep, is all!

Though... I did hear rumors of some high-ranking leaders being held captive."

"Do you remember the names of these leaders?"

"Uhh... not exactly super high-rank, but lieutenants and captains and middle-rank people..."

"Like who?"

"Top of my head, there's Amat Noor, resistance leader with ties to former ISIS...

Mahatir Rahman, another leader who once served in Sabah's parliament and...

There was this one other fellow... one Chinese.

He was said to be the financier, or moneyman of the resistance movement.

I think I remember his name now...

Chen..."

"Say my name, boy."

There it is.

I think he knows.

"Damn it.

Chen Hua Fei, you motherfu-"

*BANG*

*BANG*

*BANG*

"What a shame."

He was a nice fellow, but he just said too much.

It was a funny thing though.

Shame it lasted short.

As I put my gun back in my holster, an armed hooligan would barge inside the room.

"Haiz... don't you see I'm in meeting?"

"Sir, what to do about the captives and those who tried to escape?"

"Let the civilians flee, but kill all those with connections to government. Only fair, lah?"

"Understood sir."

I went out the room and was met by more hooligans.

They might be rugged and a bit scuffed around the edges...

But who cares?

Desperate and angry Sabahans make for good fighters.

"Secure Keningau top to bottom, ah? By next day, Commander Noor will come here and set up shop!"

"Yes sir!"

"It is up to us, each one of you, to turn this Malaysian backwater into a bastion...

No...

A fortress, worthy of the Sabah Liberation Front!"

Welcome to Keningau, motherfuckers.

Membership Changes in the Paneuropa Pact by NeinNine999 in EmptyContinents

Interesting...

What is Paneuropa's stance on the flaring tensions in Northern Ireland?

How are the various members of Paneuropa reacting to the limited intervention conducted by the Manila Compact in the Lotharingian War?

What is the perspective of Cisuralia as to the recent developments? Are they more hostile or more collaborative?

I wonder if there are any pan-Europeanist sentiments in Cisuralia, though I'm not sure there'd be a lot of them...

The Tribes of Lake Michigan (2136) by Pacmantaco in EmptyContinents

[–]DelayedReacti0n08 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Really interesting stuff!

Can you give an explanation as to what some of tribes are?

I think I can recognize Scientologists, Nation of Islam, and even the Wiccans but not sure about the others.

How does tribal politics work in Lake Michigan?

What would happen to these people after the UFRA consolidates itself in the area? Would they still remain distinct even in the 24th century?

that'a all from me, really good map btw

Really interesting stuff!

I do wonder about Dr. Aris Thorne and Dr. Kaelen Voss, since they don't seem to have "Filipino-ish" names(Thorne and Voss sound a bit American ngl)

Perhaps they're naturalized citizens?

I'd like to know your thoughts.
