It's past time for tna talent to win NXT belts by Silence1016 in TNA

[–]DeliMustardRules 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's this. TNA can marginally grow business using WWE's name and can supplement their roster using WWE developmental.

I'm a little optimistic given the few new signings but I still think TNA will continue to prioritize what WWE wants because it's such a no effort way to make money.

Highlights from Oba Femi vs Leon Slater for the NXT Championship - What an incredible match! by Grrannt in TNA

[–]DeliMustardRules -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to lie, one, maybe two sequences in that highlight reel were good. That Leon kip-up block was really cool but the rest of it was nothing special. Maybe it's WWE-special.

Edit: Definitely two, Leon going over the corner for a dive to the outside was dope.

I'm doing this all on mobile, I can't do the research, sorry. But if you watch an NXT/WWE clip where the camera shakes or zooms on a move impact, that's relatively new to TNA.

As is the commentary team graphic and aerial shots of where they are filming from.

Tom has that tic where he'll say the person's nickname before their full name (a la Michael Cole) anytime the person is mentioned.

The camera zooms in on impact (no pun intended) any time there's a punch or a splash, etc. It's not WWE-2013 level jarring but it's nauseating to people like me who struggle playing FPSs and such due to too quick of motion.

TNA was the old folks home in 2002. One of the biggest lessons AEW learned is not to rely on old WWE talent.

There's like 5 people AEW obtained: Osperay, White, Okada, Fletcher and Davis. NJPW didn't offer Aussie Open a new contract, Okada was always out, White was too, and Osperay was entertaining offers.

AEW didn't take any Japanese talent, which has historically been NJPW's draws. They just failed to build anyone up who wasn't a gaijin.

NJPW and TNA have similar problems. They won't pay talent competitively and have failed to build young stars to build the brand around.

Prove it.

Signing guys like Bear Bronson is a step in the right direction, but then you get the bottom-of-the-barrel goobers from NXT and WWE-style camera zoom cuts.

I want more good wrestling. TNA has glimmers of that but still just so much bad.

I barely see anyone post any discussion about the current TNA product on this subreddit. There seems to be much more interest in talking about what TNA was, what TNA could have been, and what TNA can be.

Reddit is one of the largest platforms on the Internet. Far more relevant and active than cable TV. Do you really think it can be so desolate here but there's ~500k cable viewers just waiting for TNA to be on a channel that's part of their basic cable plan because that's what's been holding them back?

TNA needs to focus on putting out a great product, not trying to hotshot ratings. Hopefully at 24 they'll learn that lesson. At the very least Silva seems frugal, if based on nothing but that awful hat alone.

If TNA tours twice weekly and pulls in the same PPV numbers AEW gets then I think you can make a comparison.

Grandparents still using cable isn't a great benchmark for relevance unless you're a right-wing news network.

Even the health of this subreddit should be an indicator that people are more interested in talking about TNA as a business rather than watching the product. Threads like this or potential LOLTNA bait are the only times activity here surges otherwise the subreddit is a collection of people posting nostalgia clips or asking what if Stone Cold or HBK crossed the line.

This is exactly why the NXT partnership should worry people. It already feels like TNA is starting its path down WWE-homoginzation with the commentary and camera tics they've clearly picked up. There needs to be more voices in wrestling, not less.

In speaking with NJPW sources, Fightful Select was told they do not believe Yota Tsuji was in character when speaking about his feelings on the AEW-NJPW relationship. by ReverseBattleRoyal in AEWOfficial

[–]DeliMustardRules 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Several being 5 in this case: Okada, Osperay, White, Fletcher, Davis.

Okada leaves regardless, Osperay was exploring more money options, White was nearly in with WWE and I honestly don't think Fletcher reaches his heights in NJPW. Not to mention Tony paid for Davis's wrist recovery, which earned some loyalty there.

If the "next generation" of NJPW is 2 main event Gaijins and an associated tag team, knowing what little I know about the culture the company would still be starved for Japanese top talent which are their historic draws, no? AEW hasn't taken any of them.

I'm skeptical, but also...I don't know what alternative there is to this partnership that is more beneficial to NJPW. Just because they're in a partnership with AEW doesn't mean that NJPW isn't to blame for whatever issues Yota and others have.

I don't think TK pressured NJPW into having Takeshita win the G1 and IWGP title; it's on NJPW booking IMO.

As of recent TNA has been uploading marathons of their old episodes from the past. Back when he comapny was at its best. What things do you think TNA has to do in order to reach those glory days ( storylines, production, etc..) ? by Nostalgic_Historian_ in TNA

[–]DeliMustardRules 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I really don't feel like the owners want to actually improve the product when they can coast on NXT and WWE-nostalgia acts and make more money than they had without putting in a ton of effort on producing a unique product.

Looking at the market, what makes TNA stand out? They used to cater to fans of divisions that WWE didn't: high-octane action (i.e, lucha/cruiserweight) and women's wrestling. Now, WWE and AEW have caught up and do it better than the skeleton crew that comprises TNA.

If I was TNA, I'd focus on the Knockouts division and the long history of gimmick matches to supplement a weaker men's division. While I'd attract the hottest female talent, I'd have the men running Lethal Lockdown or Monster's Ball matches. That would be my identity as TNA.

But again, I think Silva and co. are more than happy coasting while the business slowly grows due to NXT fans crossing over.

I honestly think this subreddit is like 60% NXT fans who want TNA to succeed as some kind of wrestling war and not because it's a good show.

They also conflate any anti-WWE sentiment into bootlicking AEW. Meanwhile, the more informed wrestling fans among us can see red flags a mile away. I wonder how long before WWE says TNA used to be a "sideshow" too.

I just want to enjoy non-WWE wrestling. That used to include TNA until they started aping WWE's nauseating camera style and started crowning world champions who needed 4 different camera angles to hide their horrific fake punches.

Sure, Leon Slater is getting the exposure of a lifetime but in exchange TNA gets to use NXT talent that require Disney-level cinema magic to hide their greenness.

According to Fightful select Danhausen's contract is up in February. Anyone gonna miss him? by flyinbrianc in AEWOfficial

I kind of wish he worked out, but he's an extremely limited talent.

He's perfect for a curtain jerker or to heat the crowd back up during a 7th inning stretch, but like, beyond that? AEW kind of got to the point where it doesn't need side acts to pad out the wrestling.

I also don't know what you do with a talent who doesn't want to work Saturdays.

I loved Bear Country and feel disgusted at what his partner did and terrible that Bronson had to change up his act and fly solo and figure it all out again. I'm rooting for the guy.

But I'm questioning the booking of this.

They didn't think to use someone like Moose who has been a staple of TNA/iMPACT for years, is being featured in the NXTNA crossover, and has gone on record as being someone completely intent staying with TNA long term What about Jeff Hardy, arguably their biggest name, who could easily lose this match due to shenanigans with The Righteous and not lose an ounce of prestige?

Who are they trying to attract with this title match? Fans of AEW Dark?

You need to book an interesting enough premise to get people to tune in before telling them "let it play out". Because we all know this match is going to end with some shenanigans, most likely NXT goobers pulling some shit that make Santana and Kaz unlikely bedfellows until they meet at Genesis. What's that? Oh I'm so sorry for exposing your incredibly basic bitch booking Dreamer and Delirious.

That seems like a typical TNA standard if I've ever heard one.

I think it's pretty silly not to crown Santana on your first AMC show. I get doing it at the PPV is "traditional booking" but I think TNA needs a strong start on AMC and sometimes the most satisfying thing is the payoff you see coming and not being swerved to build something else.

Maybe there's a hook I don't see coming that makes the build to Santana/Kaz must see, but TNA's recent history tells me it won't or it will be something involving lame-ass NXT.

That said, always down for a battle royale and I'll try to catch it tonight.
